Just to be clear. I don't disagree at all that Xbox One is an anchor.

It wouldn't hurt my feelings at all if all MS studios games were Series X/S exclusive.

I just think people are freaking out over Halo Infinite and are using it as fuel for other s***. Other studios seem to be transitioning to next gen a lot more smoothly that 343i.

CD Project Red seems to not be struggling to make Cyberpunk look amazing despite coming out on current gen hardware.
343i just f***ed up.
If the Xbox One is supposedly holding back XSX, what is the PS5's excuse?

This is just how cross gen games are viewed. This forum was overwhelmingly against cross gen games when they were still happening when this gen started. People should be in love with them just because of Microsoft's marketing.

I find it even more odd because most the games that MS announced were shown as XSX and PC, not Xbox One. Most the games they showed were further out in development than the time frame Matt Booty mentioned this past January for 1-2 years out.

So the only games I know of that are cross generation are Halo Infinite and Flight Simulator. These games did not mention Xbox One:

  • State Of Decay 3 (Xbox Games Studio)
  • Forza Motorsport (Xbox Games Studio)
  • Fable (Xbox Games Studio)
  • Avowed (Xbox Games Studio)
  • As Dusk Falls (Xbox Games Studio)
  • Everwild (Xbox Games Studio)
  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 (GSC Game World)
  • Warhammer 40,000 Darktide (Fatshark)
  • The Medium (Bloober Team)

Well.. if Ryan was right about the difference in the strategy of these companies, PS5 would already clearly have been the true next gen experience winner for developers. This is false if the PS5 showcase is anything to go by.

And a developer outright skipping a PS5 version of his game recently doesn't help his "holding back" case either.
Is it? False compared to what? The one big game called Halo that got trashed and then delayed?

Really? A dev dumping the PS5 version because it couldn't make the game he wanted is somehow not good for 'weaker hardware holds devs back.' WTF!! If anything it prooves what he said.

Tye medium is confirmed XSX exclusive.

Fable, Avowed, SOD 3 are years away.

The fact Forza had nothing to show means that is years off.

Its still a current gen game so I don't see your point. I don't think anyone would argue that current gen games can't look really good.
It's not even really about looking good, imo. It will be far more complex and deep than any other game for years, I suspect. People talk a lot about visuals, and I get it , but there is just so much more that makes games actually good that it gets silly how focused on graphics. And I say that a a graphics whore! I love good graphics, but A pretty but boring game will fall right off my radar.

I'm certainly okay with Halo being Cross gen because the game-play was looking really good. Disappointment is par for the course with cross gen. I still remember seeing the first Dreamcast footage and being disappointed, lol.

Exactly what? Half the games in your list didn't show anything. The bulk of the remainder nobody cares about.
Exactly. Those games are not cross generation, which is what people are worried about. Now they don't have to worry about Xbox One holding back those games if those games are never going to hit Xbox One.

Show us a list of games that are being held back by the Xbox One. We already know THESE GAMES ARE NOT being held back by the Xbox One:

  • State Of Decay 3 (Xbox Games Studio)
  • Forza Motorsport (Xbox Games Studio)
  • Fable (Xbox Games Studio)
  • Avowed (Xbox Games Studio)
  • As Dusk Falls (Xbox Games Studio)

  • Warhammer 40,000 Darktide (Fatshark)
  • The Medium (Bloober Team)

So what games besides Halo Infinite and Flight Simulator are being held back by Xbox One? I assume it will have to be unannounced games? Gears 6? We Happy Few 2? Forza Horizon 5? Anyone? Buehler?

So one might make 2020?

Medium is 3rd party no? Thought it was 2021
3rd party, yes. December 2020 is the current release date. Scorn is Holiday 2020.

Xbox Game Studios has been busy this month releasing Tell Me Why, Battletoads, Wasteland 3 and Flight Simulator. No idea if there are any first party games for September through December, but I heard Gears Tactics for Xbox should be released by end of year.

The point is X1 will not hold back XSX. I mentioned PS5 because it's not being "shackled" by the PS4, has this SSD to bring theh next gen, but is stil being skipped.

Games are being developed for XSX and PS5 without X1 version or even X1 in mind, like Martha is dead. That proves Mcaffrey is wrong to worry. The games he wants are coming. Some AAA like Hellblade 2, Avowed or Fable, some in AA that look AAA, like the Medium. There's plenty coming, but he's hungry for big mindblowing next gen games arriving soon. Somehow X1 will keep that from happening? Not likely.

Halo Infinite doesn't prove anything other than it wasn't ready and 343i needed more time or at least better time management. You also have Cyberpunk 2077 which was given the time it needed to make it what it is and is also cross gen.

Most of the big Xbox first party games announced aren't even cross gen, so Ryan is still drinking Kool-aid. It's just not Xbox's.

TLDR: Don't worry, be happy.

The real next gen wow moments usually took a year or two IMO. If I had to name some of the exceptions the Xbox 360 had Kameo and Call of Duty 2, which were both much better than the Xbox IMO. The PS3 had Motorstorm and Resistance if I recall correctly.

Resistance looked terrible
