The 3D printing/Figurines/Minitures Hobbyists thread

I separated the hand from the body & rigged the glove, hands & fingernails to hold the handgun.

starseeker dono if this may be a conflict of interest with work, but if you stick to a foreign market maybe you could bypass it?

Interesting. The main issue is that you need massive printer for many of the parts shown in the website. Nevertheless, smaller parts for cars are good ideas that I can consider

I adjusted the braid so it flow along the neck to the front. This prevents the braid from clipping to the backpack, or awkwardness of over the backpack. I guess this was also a factor why later Lara Croft has a ponytail. This also probably makes 3D printing easier than having a loose braid/pigtail.

The prepose model is about done. I spent a bit of time coloring the model.

I apply some color/materials to the model to get a "feel" for physical painting on actual 3D print. The arm Bandage & the black "GPS" band on the arm are for natural split planes (to prevent obvious seam after assembly ) for the arms submodels to be 3D printed. The model will be split into submodels to allow for smaller home 3D printers. It is designed at 1:6 scale (roughly 12"/25cm tall), but it's a 3D print format so end users can enlarge or reduce the size if they like.

Anyway, starting next week, I will put focus on promoting this, by showing what I have on figures/TombRaide/3D print sites/community.

I will also be making some progress videos so people can follow the progress.

by the way, I am looking for a resin (SLA) printer for figurines/minatures.

The Lara Croft figurine I am making will be print primiary on this SLA for best details.

So far, "ELEGOO® SATURN MSLA 4K" 3D printer is the top choice. Its 2 selling point is larger print volume (192x120x200mm) & 4K resolution. Its also one of the better price printer for its size & resolution.
The cheaper cousin ELEGOO® Mars 3 ULTRA 4K Mono LCD 3D Printer looks good as well, & lighter on the pocket but has a far smaller (90mm x 143mm x 175mm) print volume.

Other noteable are Phrozen sonic mighty 4k but its more expensive. Another is Anycubic Photon Mono X with insane 6K resolution.

Also I probably get also a wash/cure machine, & Anycubic® Wash & Cure 2.0 Dual Purpost All in one Machine 2-in-1 (Super mouthful) seemed to be well recieved.

Which one do you want?

SO far, Saturn 4K is my top choice, but apparently a new one called Satuan S released recently & supposely bigger & better. I probably make a decision this week, so I can start some test printing & then proceed to make prints my Lara Croft 3D print which should be done in 2 weeks or so.

Here is an update:
IJPBuI7.png

I finished the pose for the final 3D print. The next step is to find & fix areas for printability, like thin areas, small gaps, open surfaces etc.

By the way, I ordered the Elegoo Saturn S on their website at US$520 (490€). Now I need to get some resin as well as a clean/cure station.

I do not have any experience ordering on their sit & couldn'Ät get any review, but its their official site so I presume should be oky. It is also (surprsinginly) the cheapest. I couldn't even find this (The S version) on Amazon.

I also brought 1kg of Resin, as well 1l of Isopro 99% alcohol with Anycubic wash & Cure 2.0 for an additional 152€. Damage is 642€

My Elegoo Saturn S just arrived (Red station). Actually yesterday but I was out of the house all day so I only get to install it this morning.

The yellow station is the Anycubic wash & cure station. Pictured right is my Monoprice Voxel 3D FDM printer. Its near my living room window, so I either have to print at night, or have some cover if the sun is too intense to prevent UV from sun curing the resin.

First test prints using default test file.

Prints required ALOT more work & safety precautions than FDM printer, but the quality is a different level. The layer lines are not visible via naked eyes.

One problem I notice is how the prints are far more brittle/fragile. I think for making tools & other practical stuff that required strength or stiffness, using FDM is still better.

Even in the picture, the pipes are seen with hairline cracks. After this picture was taken, I accidentally dropped the left chess piece & one of the cubes on the tower just dropped off.

Beefy update. It will help if you like the video, or better yet, sub to my small channel so it can grow.

All parts of the figurine are printed. Base (where Lara will stand) is still work in progress. I did a simple text fit & by & large looks good. There are some areas still not optimal though but we have to take the good & the bad at times.

The joint between the upper body & lower body is too tight, & I will be looking at loosening it.

I am now doing so pre-print work like sanding. SLA resin is pretty soft (good & bad) & it makes sanding quite a breeze.

That looks amazing, awesome work

I ran of of juice while printing the 1/2 of the basepizzas & have to order & wait a few days to finish up the prints. But finally all 3D prints are done.

I have cleared the 3D print setup for my workshop, by that I mean my dinning table for painting now.

It was printed in 4 pieces due t the size & join together via fitting LongPins & Longholes (see 3rd image)

Long Pins & long holes can be seen from this Chitubox SLA print program.

I also fixed the tightness between the upper & lower body & tested it ( I increased the gap between pin & hole). So, all files are good to go & in principle ready to be uploaded for download.
But I will finish up the painting before final upload.

Decide to try out/practice the miniature grasses I bought for the base. Pretty happy as a first-timer. It was fun but messy.
The grass was flying everywhere, & I have to do a lot of cleanups.

The tree was not as nice, due to the leaves, but there is always the next time.

Looking good!

I am back from Paris & Amsterdam.

Finished up the model (will finish with some touch up later than clear coat to protect the paint)

That looks fantastic, do you like sign them or add an Easter egg that references you?
I never thought about that. Interesting question. Joy will come from people downloading this, to print & paint this & loving it.
I enjoy the painting part. It's a lot of work but very satisfying. Hopefully, much more talented people can create a better finish than me.

Anyway, The base is done
