That’s another thing that has always frustrated me about COD since MW (2019) is how slow the BP goes. I played a lot in 2020 and 2021 never maxed out the BP once.

As for DMZ they’ve made changes for the better from what I’ve played in the last month or so. Was surprised to hear a recent podcast say DMZ is the best mode now in COD over WZ.

Someone did the math and to finish the BP in a season, you need to play well over an hour per day to get through it.

I wouldn't even want to play that much COD, even if I could.

The BP seems mostly time based too. It doesn't really seem to care about XP. I can go nuts in one game and bad in another, and it just gives you a sliver of progress either way.

The only way to do it, is to go absolutely nuts when they have double BP xp, which is usually only one weekend a season now.

BP was fine in MW 2019 and Cold War. Roughly 40 mins a day would see it completed over the season.

During MW and Cold War I played every weekend and a few nights during the week for hours during each sitting, never maxed out the BP once. Fortnite you can max it out in far less play since it’s lvl/xp based.

To me, COD is a high intensity, high burnout game. It isn't meant to be say a Diablo or a Destiny.

For those of us who actually like 6v6, it is high intensity every second with the way matchmaking goes.

Some nights I get home from work and the last thing I want to do is fire up COD. I don't see COD as a "grind" game like others. COD is intensity cranked up to 11/10 (more like 12/10 with SBMM). I've always enjoyed the games, but definitely in smaller sessions.

I could play a game like Destiny all weekend, but COD, after an hour or two I need a break. I honestly don't know how streamers do it.

It bugs me that XP doesn't matter either. I'm still like level 200 something because who cares? You should get more BP from doing things like playing the objective and actually doing well. It doesn't really factor in though. I read that people just go AFK in DMZ and hide in a corner to make progress.

I didn't see this anywhere, but this weekend is 2xp weekend for all 3 (battle pass, weapons, and regular xp).

It is also free trial weekend, so get ready to run into lots of chea.... errr super good level 3 players.

Played a couple hours. The f’ing sweats ruin the fun. Man I wish I could just play against random people and have fun.

Give Invasion a try. There's a lot of snipers, but once you learn the maps, I find it a lot more fun. I just run around leveling up whatever gun I want instead of having to sweat all the time just to go .9. There's bots running around which is free XP for stuff too. Once in awhile you get some player going crazy, but mostly it is just people playing like the old days.

Yeah haven’t played that in awhile. I did play a few Shipments had some fun lvl up a gun.

It’s just crazy the bugs still in this game months later. There are still bugs with loadout drops, still map and pinging bugs, still bugs with weapons and items disappearing, still bugs with after the match, matches not starting, bad lag sometimes, etc. this has to be the worst shooter on the market with the most dev support. Makes no f’ing sense.

It pi**es me off because I like the guns, movement, and WZ maps… but the dumb decisions they’ve made, the bugs they can’t seem to fix, plus the cheaters and SBMM ruin the game.

Nothing is going to change until a new FPS game pushes COD.

Plus, I think they have all their developers rushing this new game that is supposed to launch in a couple of months.

Yeah I’m sure that will be a mess too and I’ll still be dumb enough to buy it, but they want everyone’s $$$$s so might as well rush out a so called *new* game.

Yeah, sadly there's just not much direct competition. For all the problems, I've played the heck out of this.

There's still rumors that the new COD will just expand on the current MP. Totally unconfirmed, but we know the classic MW2 maps are coming. I could see them dropping a small campaign and some new maps on top of the existing game. (still charging $70 for it of course).

To you guys still playing COD , why torture yourself? If the game is as bad as some of you guys make it out to be, are there not better options in Valorant, Apex, Overwatch 2 etc? 🤔

Not really.

Valorant is PC Only, Apex's issue is no solo mode, Overwatch 2, lol, not having my number.

There really is no replacement, but Xdefiant is looking like it will change that and is F2P.

It obviously isn't all bad. The problem is, it is so close to being great, but bugs and bizarre design choices hold it back. The core game is still fun, that's what pulls people back.

Those other games just don't pull me in like COD. xDefiant might be it, but I am not sure about that (played an alpha and something felt off about it, but if they can make changes it might be good).

The problem is, I don't want a competitive game. I want something I can mess around with for 45 minutes to get my action fix. Overwatch is one of those games where I would need to dive in a ton and put a bunch of hours in to learn everything. I'd rather just have a quick action fix.

I see. That was my initial thought about OW because of so many different heroes but If you have the time, definitely try it out and see which role you like and then play the more easier to pick up heroes first like Soldier for DPS, Mercy for support and Reinhardt / Winston.

Once you learn everyone, it's easier to see which heroes would be ideal to pair up with the rest of the team to get that W and it is also great diverse fun because there are so many heroes. The great thing is you can do casual quickplays / arcade mode or ranked if you are competitive.

"Close to being great" really? It needs a complete overhaul. Audio terrible, movement terrible, Maps terrible, Gun Mantling terrible, It is no where near being good let alone great.

I usually hit the same wall. I jump in quickplay as a healer or tank, have some fun, but then realize to take the next step is comp.

I actually wanted to like OW2 over MW2, but COD just pulls me in like nothing else.

First time getting all pistols and shotguns leveled up. I have everything leveled up in this game other than the riot shield (refuse to use it) crossbow, and a few launchers. Think I'll take out roof snipers in Invasion with the Javelin and RPG.

There's nothing more fun than getting headshots with the GS .50.

This game still has so many issues though. Servers start lagging to the point where you can't move. I might have to avoid the next game on principle. Hopefully Diablo and eventually some fall releases keep me busy.

I’ve tried just about every shooter in recent years, none keep me coming back. To me shooters in general are in a not so great state right now. All they care about now are micro transactions and Battlepasses, instead of trying to make a great game while also giving you progression that’s fun/addicting keeping you wanting to come back.

I think Fortnite (no build) is the better shooter to play right now. Can have fun with less frustration. Thing is if it wasn’t for my kids I doubt I would play it much by myself because other than lvl’ing to do the BP, no progression or reason to keep coming back often.

I did reinstall BF2042 going to try to get into that more just for fun and something new to play. Thought about giving PUBG a go again I really liked that game years ago.

Shooters are in a weird place right now. What we need is a great Halo and BF game to push things from AAA studios.
It is like the community as a whole simply refuses to play something else either. It is like what EA Sports did with sports games. Competition is gone, and you get a yearly product with a lot of flaws, but nobody else bothers to push them.

The other big problem is cheating. Every game has cheating, but at least they are trying to fight the big cheat companies. Activision finally got embarrassed enough by cheaters winning their tournaments and dominating the leaderboards to put some effort into it.

COD is dead and ain't ever coming back. Same for BF.

I just couldn't imagine a world without a COD or BF game. I can't even imagine how many hours I've put into these games since they both launched. I've played basically every one except for that one console BF game and Vanguard (even tried that in a free weekend).

I've tried to quit shooters and just hit sim racing games, single player, etc but it never works out. Something pulls me back. I knew all the flaws with this game and I went in with eyes wide open. Again though, if Invasion didn't exist, I probably would have quit long ago or maybe never bought it.

No need to imagine. COD is already dead. These shooters they slapped the COD name on nowadays aren't COD.

The CoD games that really shined were 1 and it's expansions, 2, and 4. Everything else has really just been dogs***.

COD and BF it’s like they lost touch with what made their game great/fun/addictive in the first place. Once these big shooter publishers/devs realized they could make a boat load of money off micro transactions, battlepasses, live service games they have went downhill fast. They need to worry about making a good all around game first.

As for COD thinking back to COD 1&2, COD4 MW and MW2, Black Ops days, we’ll never get that fun and addiction back. Same with BF guess we need to accept we’ll never get that feeling we had playing those older PC games and some of the great console games again.

I’m surprised a dev hasn’t got in on the shooter market recently. Make a good playing, less bugs, good designed maps, a progression system that brings you back… pull in the crowed that’s tired of COD/BF’s s***.

Then I heard on a podcast recently that devs are complaining and saying these communities want too much and expect too much and developing these big online shooters is really difficult lol. Then again maybe they are trying to do too much, getting too big, and they’re getting way over complex?

On to MW2, fixing it would not be hard for a company making billions in microtransactions.

-Ditch engagement based matchmaking, and just have a loose SBMM (or try playlists with none at all and see how it goes). Even if COD just did what other games did, it would play 1000x better.

-Fix the audio. It worked in the beta. It was just too loud. Otherwise, footsteps worked perfectly. The code that worked is out there somewhere.

-Add ninja as a perk (silent footsteps) and put it in the same group as ghost, so you have to pick 1. Get rid of the timed perk system and just go back to the old one.

-Get rid of "revenge" spawns. COD spawns are always flawed, but this game does some very bad things.

-Stop designing maps with tons of open shooting lanes, slowing the game down.

A lot of the flaws with this game is just IW doing dumb things. Most of these problems were brought up going back to the early betas. They refused to listen and push questionable design decisions that nobody really seems to like.

Outside of re-doing every map, every fix would be relatively easy.

I'm holding out hope for Treyarch in 2024. The problem with Cold War was that it was built on an older engine, so felt like a step back from MW2019 (which it was). The gameplay itself was a lot better and a lot more "COD like".

I still the IW doesn’t play their own game or do any play testing really. So many simple changes, bug fixes, and dropping strict SBMM would help it so much. Still can’t help some of the bad maps they’ve come up with in MW and MW2.

At this point, I think a huge chunk of the dev team is working to rush out the new game dropping. I think they are rushing out the content and not doing the testing/bugfixes. The game on PC is suddenly crashing again (I haven't crashed since season 1).

They likely should have skipped a year (as was rumored) and just let Treyarch drop something in 2024. I have to imagine they are scrambling to sell something this October.
