Aliens - Prequel Series

What’s next for me, it looks like, is [an] Alien series for FX, taking on that franchise and those amazing films by Ridley Scott and James Cameron and David Fincher. Those are great monster movies, but they’re not just monster movies. They’re about humanity trapped between our primordial, parasitic past and our artificial intelligence future—and they’re both trying to kill us. Here you have human beings and they can’t go forward and they can’t go back. So I find that really interesting.

It’s not a Ripley story. She’s one of the great characters of all time, and I think the story has been told pretty perfectly, and I don’t want to mess with it. It’s a story that’s set on Earth also. The alien stories are always trapped… Trapped in a prison, trapped in a space ship. I thought it would be interesting to open it up a little bit so that the stakes of “What happens if you can’t contain it?” are more immediate.

On some level it’s also a story about inequality. In mine, you’re also going to see the people who are sending [the people who have to do the dirty work]. So you will see what happens when the inequality we’re struggling with now isn’t resolved. If we as a society can’t figure out how to prop each other up and spread the wealth, then what’s going to happen to us?

This is going to be a woke, preachy mess. Set on Earth too. Lol.

I always have hope, but never get excited anymore. They always have potential to be really good stories.

Eh!!

Set on 21st century Earth and includes the Alien despite Ripley's team having the first encounter with this Alien.

I need to watch them all again 😆
Yeah...
3 isn't that great tbh and seems like a clusterf*** of directors and vision.
4 was pretty good for an action movie, but not even close to Aliens.
Scott's new Prometheus and Covenant movies seems like an acquired taste... but I find them pretentious and overly foggy with what they try to expose... feels like it asks more questions than it answers, which wasn't what I wanted/expected tbh.

At this point I'll be happy with a few triggerhappy, gunblazing marines and murderous old school aliens.

Heard on a podcast recently that originally Prometheus was going to just be a sci-fi film about our creators, and then Scott turned it into an Alien prequel film. Covenant he just wanted to give fans an Alien Thunderdome. I personally enjoy both films.

I’m really looking forward to the new series and new upcoming film.

I enjoyed all films to a certain extent. I just like that universe. You really have to screw it up for me not to like it. 1 and 2 are just the best in their own way.

How are they going to make an Aliens tv show that is set on Earth before Ripley even finds the crashed space ship without somehow having the actual aliens on Earth? And that pisses all over the original story. If it is set about 70 years in the future its based in the time of Prometheus (set in 2091, Ripley was born in 2092). They better handle this well.

Well....I guess they could just make up a new super conglomerate that have found xenomorphs at an earlier date, but keeps it hush-hush (kind of like some world governments do with the UAPs now)... maybe hire some marines that keeps their mouths shut?
Idk, Scott has bent the logic and canon of the universe to a point that fans make up fantastical excuses for it to fit already.

The Alien TV series is taking a chance by breaking an unofficial rule the franchise has held onto for decades. Ridley Scott's original Alien set up many questions it had no interest in answering, including where the alien eggs came from or why the derelict ship was transporting them. The original film and its eventual sequel Aliens suggested a much wider universe of tales, which has led to almost countless video games, novels and comic expansions. They also led, of course, to the rest of the Alien movie franchise.

Little is known about the actual story, but one element that's been confirmed is that the Alien series will largely take place on Earth. The show is reportedly set to focus on rivals to the franchise's infamous Weyland-Yutani corporation, who are also developing artificial intelligence and presumably seeking samples of the titular creature. It will be intriguing to see how the Alien show structures its episodes, and if it will take a horror or sci-fi adventure approach.

If they take that cheap ass attempt at an explanation (which they probably will!) it will piss all over the orginal story and no matter how well the show might be made it will already be a load of s*** for me anyway.
