Analysis – Sony’s PlayStation Now Beta Pricing Is Overly Expensive

I'm still hopeful for this service and the prices get chopped down a bit. When I made the transition from PS360 late last year I missed out on a few games I wanted to play like Batman: Origins and Castlevania 2. This service is the closest we will get to backwards compatibility which is great for me.

Hell if Sony made a mini system that could play PSX and PS2 games I'd buy it or hell an add-on for PS4 I'd buy it.

I just want to play my PS1 and PS2 games without blurry graphics on my HDTV. Sucks that you basically need to keep an old school TV laying around to play some games.

I've played both on an HDTV before it's not to bad. Some of the emulators you can get on PC do a really good Job up converting ps2 games.

Are the PS1/2 games on PS NOW upscaled at all or are they at their original resolutions? I'd rather play some decent emulators on a PC than pay for for turdy looking versions on PS NOW...

If they don't lower the renal prices a lot this is going to bomb. Hell I'm not sure if that will even do it.

Think I will get out my PS1 and see if it still runs instead of paying for this bulls***.

Better get out the standard TV while you're at it. The PS1 does not hold up at all on a flat screen TV. The PS2 is bad enough. I know older games can be done on newer TVs because Nintendo does it with their Virtual console.

I did the 7 day pass for KZ3, just because I can barely remember it. Beat the campaign in 5 hours lol. It looks the same as it did on ps3, but the mp is just ugly, it looks 480p.

So is PS NOW a subscription based service or a la carte type pricing?

Right now it is a la carte, but Sony are talking about plans for a subscription based option too. However, they seem reluctant to talk specifics.

I might try the zone of the enders collection depending on the pricing, i havent messed with ps now since the pricing was first started when i purchased alpha protocol.

They need to massively lower the price. Also, I think the first 1/2 hour (first time you try the game) should be free (so its like a demo).

You have a game potential changer if they lower the price (like a lot), otherwise, its not going to take off.

Now that Sony is the market leader, they are starting all the crap again....

They are testing the market. If no one pays these prices they will come down.

Well if its going to be in open beta i would think they would lower prices now to get more people to try the service, if they can get the pricing just right the service will be complete, when i played dead island and alpha protocol i didnt experience much if any lag and was smooth for the most part except for random controller disconnect in dead island

Wait, you meant the game stay on the server & not Downloaded to your HD?

True, but the sour taste remains, because we know they have intended to charge us as much. Not unlike drm on x1, & it's initial high price.

This is nothing like the Xbox DRM. The biggest problem with PS Now is that right now no one really cares about it. I don't think many people are going to be up in arms about the services prices, they are just not going to use it. Sony should first be trying to do something to make it more compelling, the price will balance itself out. Personally I think they are going about it all wrong. What they should have done is focus on Sony owned properties which they could offer free to PS + members for a trial period of some kind or perhaps a form of backwards compatibility. Get people to try the service and see if it is even viable or something people would be willing to throw some cash at. Then, they could take that feedback and decide on a price point and whether or not it is even worthwhile trying to bring in a bunch of 3rd parties and deal with all the licensing issues and extra cost.

yes the games are on their servers and you just stream it to your console from there. If you leave the game alone for a bit it will disconnect you from the game server so other people can log into the server.

Man that sucks then, the prices are ridiculous, you can buy most of those games cheaper used :( Hopefully they do switch it to a sub. model, as long as its priced right it will prolly do alright, as is now, forget it...

So how can it work for but older games. Wouldn't be it slideshow with modern games.

I am not sure, right now they only have ps3 games and psn games listed in ps now. I havent heard sony mention anything about ps1 and ps2 games coming yet so they could be working on that now. If the pricing doesnt change though i think the service will be no good for alot of people especially if they charge alot for ps1 and ps2 games.

Shouldn't make any difference really, stream is stream and input is input. the only discerning difference would be quality and bit rate of stream.

I wonder about the price, it has to be expensive to have servers that can handle streaming games with the speed to make this work right, maybe that's why the price is so high.

Personally, i like what EA is doing, i can download current gen games and not worry with streaming something every time you want to play.

So Sony is banking on PS Now instead of going with EA's plan of EA Access. Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Im sorry but anybody who throws money at PSNow its its current form should be punched for stupidity. Unless they come up with a proper subscription that allows unlimited streaming of games for a set yearly fee, this "service" is garbage. It's essentially like throwing money into the air and watching it blow away. Its bad enough these game's will only run in a 720p streaming format, making them impossible to access if something goes wrong with your internet, not to mention game lag for those without pristine connections. The whole thing is f#cktarded. PSNow should have been a digital download service allowing you to access the Playstation backlog via download, and have the games there for as long as you had a subscription to PSN+.
