Are there any confirmed games running in 1080p??

I'm sorry but if there aren't any games running in 1080p for this next-gen, then I'm considering this gen a failure. What good is it to have some better graphics capabilities (tessellation, HBAO, Anisotropic filtering and higher res textures) and not increase resolution to get better image quality?

I'm looking for KZ to be 1080p as well as others like BF4, COD:Ghosts, ACIV, and others.

Battlefield 4 is at least 720p and 60fps. That is better than 500p and 30fps. I wish for 1080p and 60fps for all console games to come, but developers just don't seem to understand how well 1080p compliments everything else you do visually.

All the games I'm currently playing and will be playing are confirmed 1080p on my PC.

I'm pretty sure they understand, they also understand how to get the best performance from the consoles too. It's not a matter of them just saying "nah we don't need to do this at 1080P"...

Exactly. There are teams of developers much smarter than us discussing features and weighing whether it is worth dropping resolution slightly in order to add some effect or dropping target frame rate slightly to do something else.

I'm sure it is a tremendous undertaking to make and implement those decisions across a large team with a budget and timeline moving toward the ultimate goal of making money.

And this is the main reason why PC's will always be superior, there doesn't have to be that compromise or really any compromises, the only compromises that are made for PC games is when they are bad console ports. Scalability is king and I think that on next gen consoles games should be able to have some sort of scalability, kind of like a mini slider for AA on/off and for more performance/more eye candy slider. Very basic sliders.

Thing is w/PC there are compromises, they're dictated by your wallet. Buy a mid tier gaming rig your gonna be dragging the slider left, spare no expense on a beast and you'll have the slider pegged right. That's why you have scalability. Consoles are basically comparable to a mid-tier PC, with features pretty much tailored to its power, your pretty much getting the most outta the system as is.

That's true but what if you want more? With console you do not have that option. You can easily build a beast over a couple of months time if you do not have the cash all at once or if your machine isn't performing the way you want. Consoles again, you do not have that option. With consoles, there is 0 performance options and I think they should add a few in. Like I said basically just a slider that says, More FPS and more Eye Candy. I can tell you that there are probably more than a few console gamers out there that would like that option.

And you do not have the wallet for PC gaming, that there is consoles for that, PC's are for the big boys, but these you can build a PC for 500 bucks that will trump next gen consoles already, and I've already did that in a second machine for my girlfriend.

You have to understand the nature of the industry. They sell games based on graphics. If the graphics can't be as good at 1080p with 60FPS, why are they even going to do it as a business? They have done this forever. They will instead try to lock it at 720p again this generation & aim for 30FPS instead for the majority of games. There will a select few of course that are different, but look at this gen even. There were only like a total of five 1080p games & they were all Xbox Live Arcade games. Games were 720p for the most part. A lot of games were even upscaled from below 720p up to that. (Halo 3 comes to mind) Most games were 30FPS & some dipped down below that quite frequently. A lot of other games have V-Sync turned off to save a couple frames per second. (noticeable tearing in a lot of titles) Next-gen it looks like no longer will games be upscaled from a lower res to 720p, but most, if not all of them will be 720p at least, so that's good.

Microsoft made concessions in the Xbox One as well for multimedia features, enabling the 3 gigs of RAM to be reserved for the operating systems & cores turned off, so you have to factor that in as well. That's another reason I still see a lot of games aiming for a locked 720p/30FPS. They will simply try to make the graphics as good as possible locked at the resolution because the advantages of selling a title looking amazing at that resolution compared to how much more processing it takes for a higher resolution won't matter to the average consumer that much. You have to remember it's a business & they will do whatever it takes to make the best looking visuals to the average person. That usually means the lowest HD resolution as possible with a lower frame rate to make the visuals as good as possible other ways.

I have a PC that can run just about any game I want to play, and I still enjoy console gaming over PC gaming.

I understand all of you guys' points. This makes me realize that this next-gen has been hyped to the core. I remember several people claiming that next-gen will have 1080p/60FPS visuals judging by FMV demos (ironically running on PC hardware). Let's take that demo from Quantum Dreams. We aren't going to see something like that at 1080p in next-gen. Even after several years of optimizations to games by the developers.

I have a PC that runs every game I own at max settings and I built it that way so, I have some pretty demanding one's to, Metro, all 3 Crysis's, BF3, etc.

My posts really are not knocking console gaming because I also own a PS3, Wii U, and X360 with many many games for each. I am just saying that I think there should be a couple of options in consoles games, like max eye candy, or max FPS. I can think of several console only games I would have sacrificed eye candy for more performance.

There have been a lot of contradictory stories regarding next gen game resolutions. I think it will be a lot of sleight of hand with developers right up til games are released in November.

Don't count on most games being 1080p.

What games mentioned to be 1080p are 900p? Links please.

True dat.

Agreed.

I don't know how much extra effort and programming it takes, but forget about all the fancy sliders and such PC gamers get.

Just two visual settings: higher detail/lower frame rate and lower detail/higher frame rate.

That would be enough for me. Not sure why it's so hard.

That's the trade off of PC vs console though. PC it's easy to upgrade and you have to worry about drivers/compatibility etc, plus a good GPU alone can cost the price of a console. Console it's all in one no worries, games work no matter what, they're all the same box. Trade off is it'll never rival a PC and they're cheap, relatively speaking. Games for consoles are tuned to the consoles power, your not gonna see a noticeable difference by having user definable settings, you'd prolly see worse performance.

Bioshock 1 and 2 (perhaps infinite as well, but I played that on PC) had an option to unlock the framerate for higher FPS but there was a downside which I forget. Those are the only console titles I've ever seen with anything approaching options for performance/quality.

Yeah the BS games had an option to unlock frame rate, downside was screen tearing from what I could saw. I didn't think it was worth it, screen tearing is one of my most loathed problems this gen
