It's definitely a game of this generation, not a showcase for next gen. It does look as good as odyssey though and that game looks amazing imo.Woof, the cutscene are janky. So are the animations. Everything feels jerky. Nothing feels like it has any weight. Not impressed tbh. I do like some of the lighting and atmospherics tho...
The faces and lip-syncing are like PS3/360 gen.It looks entertaining and I'm sure I will get around to playing it, but honestly it looks current gen. I don't even know if it looks as good as Origins from what I've seen.

Come on, lolThe faces and lip-syncing are like PS3/360 gen.
After seeing faces and lip-syncing in games like Gears 5 and TLOU2, it's cringe watching the ones in AC:V.Come on, lol

I remember being struck by how bad the facial animation looked in Mass Effect 2 after playing MGS 4, while thinking mass effect 1 had the most lifelike facial animations I've ever witnessed.Sometimes you have to be willing to accept differing priorities between entirely different games. Valhalla is a game more concerned with scope and scale than nuanced facial animation than either of the games you mentioned.
They need a new engine. The gameplay videos that have been uploaded to YouTube look a bit better than the stuff from the live stream IMO, still they have things they need to work on and some hands on reports suggested it wasn't running at a smooth framerate. Some of the YouTubers who played it did it via streaming while some others got to play on local PC's.
Most of them seem pretty satisfied with the combat and say it feels 'crunchier" and "meatier" than it did in the past and that the character moves with more weight. I'm going to get it I just wish they'd fix a few things for next gen like those terrible flat 2D flames that pop up when they set roof tops on fire and fixing the framerate issues during cinematics and some parts of gameplay. I am going to miss ship battles but I don't think Vikings ever really did that, those ships aren't made for ship to ship combat so it makes sense not to include it.

My biggest issue with Origins and seemingly this game too, is the weird hit detection in combat, and janky animations in combat. Combat needs more focus and polish.
I'd love to see them use the Snowdrop engine for the AC games.I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do when they focus solely on next gen consoles and don't have to worry about the games being cross-gen. Black Flag had some nice improvements over the 360/ps3 versions but it looked nowhere near as good as the AC games that came later.
I personally think the combat worked well and was satisfying once learned in odyssey... those big battles are amazing if you get the combat flowing with the shield disarming and spartan kicks imo. It does feel janky before you get into it though. They need a new engine.

I hate the combat animations. I know some people hate the combat in the Witcher 3, but it flows way better than the AC system. The way he dodges and parries. It's just more satisfying and doesn't feel so ham fisted and jerky. They need a new engine.

Yeah, For Honour was good. Who knows, maybe AC Sparta will be that.I hate the combat animations. I know some people hate the combat in the Witcher 3, but it flows way better than the AC system. The way he dodges and parries. It's just more satisfying and doesn't feel so ham fisted and jerky.
The over-designed costumes dont help either. Honestly, I wish they incorporated so of the For Honor fighting into it.
Wut?!Yeah, For Honour was good. Who knows, maybe AC Sparta will be that.
A new story trailer is out and it looks... not so hot. What is the deal with the animations and faces?
