(Back up now) PSN and others are offline at the time of writing, apparently thanks to a DDOS attack.

PSN didn’t work for me at all on Sunday.

I didn’t think it could get worse than those who tried to defend Sony for making the decision for them and everyone else in not allowing EA Access on Playstation platforms. But you guys have sunk even lower by defending Sony for a network outage. Its pathetic and hilarious at the same time.

Who's "defending" them?

All I see are people saying that Xbox has also come under DDOS attacks when others said they have not. No one here stated otherwise.

Why would anyone feel the need to defend Sony when the culprits are hackers?
Exactly... shouldn't anyone defend victims?

It's all good guys...your precious Sony PSN is back up at full strength!!

Sony Online President's Flight Diverted After Hacker Bomb Threat
http://kotaku.com/sony-online-presidents-flight-diverted-after-hacker-bom-1626249376

American Airlines has diverted a flight carrying the president of Sony Online Entertainment following what may have been a bomb threat by a group of alleged hackers—the same group that has claimed responsibility for a series of outages across the PlayStation Network and other gaming services this weekend.
The FBI is currently investigating the incident, an SOE representative told Kotaku today.
This afternoon at around 1:30pm Eastern, the group Lizard Squad tweeted at American Airlines to say that a flight carrying John Smedley, president of SOE, the developer behind EverQuest Next among other games, had "explosives on-board."

Disgusting.

s***s should get jail time.

Anybody else find it funny how an event like this-a serious injustice to gamers- gets only 4 slow pages, but a game being exclusive gets a frantic, hectic, often nonsensical 30+ pages

The outage wasn't announced as a psn exclusive silly, that's why!

This wasn't done by Sony or MS so fanboys have no reason to attack each other.lol

Jesus dude, talk about circular arguing...

Yes I do know every company with an online presence is subscepible to it. I also know the more money you spend in the area and the more attention you give it, the less susceptible you are. Sony are obviously not invested in this area and it shows, hence their security hardening is sub par.
I'm not making this a fanboy thing. I'd say the same thing about any other company with a big online service that was frequently brought down by ddos
You may have just mispoke, but when was Sony frequently taken down by DDOS?

lol @ people kicking Sony when they're down.

You know console wars are serious when...

My my, there be some xbox trolls about! Seriously guys, what good does it do to take jabs while others are having troubles. Hackers are s***s, it happens, and in sure Sony is doing what they can to combat it.

Im sorry for those impacted. Im glad no ones info was compromised. To those who troll- this is why the console war crap never ends. Here is hoping the Sony boys show more class when MS gets theirs( which is bound to happen sooner or later).

I hope that kid gets a little dose of excessive force when they get him.

Which page is all of this trolling going on? I feel like I've missed something.

This.

And yes, it's happened to Xbox as well, MS just doesn't go around announcing when they get attacked.
For crying out loud, they even have a page saying that when you can't connect, it could be due to a DDOS attack. For the record, in the past 8 years, there have been several times I can't connect, and the past few weeks, quite often, I get messages when I log into Live that some services are not up. How do we know what's a DDOS attack or not if MS doesn't announce it? Anyone thinking it doesn't happen to MS is deluding themselves.

You do know that a DDOS attack is not directly related to the PSN service either....right? It's a bombardment of traffic. So yes, Xbox has been under attack before, and people weren't able to log in due to the attack.
Read the first link....and YES, this applies to PSN as well:

The Xbox Live service can’t prevent DoS and DDoS attacks because they happen through the IP address of the attacked device; they do not happen directly in the Xbox Live service.
In other words, they attack the originating device that will be used to send traffic over to Xbox Live or PSN. It's not a direct attack on Live or PSN.

Now that everything is back up, I think this thread has run its course.
