No they are protecting their IP, if it's that bad and DC has already had a ton of stinkers why add to it and pay more money to do so in the process, at least here they get a tax break for it. I keep seeing all of these people who cover entertainment talking about how tragic it is that these people worked on the film and nobody will see it, well if it's garbage why would you want them to? they got paid for their work and most of those people will get work on other films anyway. I know it wasn't how things usually get done but maybe it should be, if a movie is that bad and you are basically getting rid of the service it was supposed to air on anyway why spend tens of millions more to fix it and then even more money on advertising just to watch it bomb in theaters?

They aren't protecting it because like you said it tested the same as Black Adam but Black Adam has The Rock so it will do better so they are willing to spend the money. Quality isn't at play. Its reported it tested the same as the upcoming Shazam as well. The Scooby movie they cancelled apparently tested well and was even closer to be finished.

With the quality directors this had it probably would have been ok. No big loss but this isn't about anything other then Discovery changing its business model and there isn't positive about it.
 


WB also facing a possible investigation over the tax write off of this and the new Coyote vs Acme film.
