'Battlefield: S.W.A.T' Rumored Ahead Of 2014 E3: Could This Be EA's Unannounced Frostbite 3 Game?
http://www.ibtimes.com/battlefield-...d-be-eas-unannounced-frostbite-3-game-1589480

Fresh rumors point to a new addition to the “Battlefield” first-person-shooter video game franchise that isn’t developed by EA DICE.
With the 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, just around the corner, rumors of games yet to be announced continue to make their way around the rumor mill. Of the most compelling is the possibility of Electronics Arts, Inc. (NASDAQ:EA) unveiling a new police-themed addition to the “Battlefield” franchise, which the video game community has tentatively called “Battlefield: S.W.A.T.”

I'm interested in this "new EA" bound by Frostbite 3. Constant instability in EA games can be credited to two things: Their s****y online server, and the lack of tech support center among developers. If you see Activision or Ubisoft, their games are based on same or proved engine almost all the time, and the codes are maintained by core team, so they could be very stable. EA, on the other hand, left almost all of their internal developers on their own; Visceral used their own engine for Dead Space series, Bioware used propriety and UE3; almost every single developer were using a propriety ones. I think this partly allowed EA a huge diversity in their lineup - their strongest point - but with SimCity and Battlefield 4, now is the time to step up and have some technical stability, Now, as you see, almost all of EA games are using Frostbite. Need for Speed, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, this long-rumored Battlefield spin-off, Visceral's Star Wars game, Star Wars Battlefront, heck, even PVZ Garden Warfare, and thankfully the most recent games from EA were more stable than others. Of course we still need to see more, but hopefully EA games will now run more stable than ever before.

Sounds somewhat interesting, but there's a great deal of hostility from gamers over the shoddy launch of BF4. I don't know if releasing another BF game while their last one is still in a state of repair is a good idea. I would assume that the SWAT title indicates that this will be a smaller scale game than your average BF. That could make for an interesting change of pace for the series I suppose. Almost like Battlefield mixed with Rainbow 6. I hope if the game is true it has some sort of co-op focusing on team strategy. Maybe the campaign is co-op?. Im skeptical, but curious nonetheless.

Going out on a limb, this game has no chance of being an authentic SWAT game. Just need a remake of SWAT 3 and I'll be good.

ELEMENT STACK UP

Battlefront or GTFO.

I love Battlefield 4, so much so that I continued to play it through all those horrible, horrible launch issues and I still play a few games at least once a day.

Still, I'm sick and tired of 'modern' FPS titles. Give me a good old fashioned sci-fi FPS and I'll be happy, otherwise you can keep it.

I bet this is their game to go against CoD, but it's called SWAT and you'd expect some real tactical stuff then. But will that appeal to the masses that simply want yet...another war shooter?

Could make for some interesting SP. SWAT officers get into some interesting situations.

There's room for a slow paced tactical FPS right now. With Rainbow Six Patriots in limbo, a tactical Battlefield game with less explosions and more strategy and smaller player counts could be pretty cool. Throw in a few solid co-op modes and I'd be sold.

But it wouldn't be battlefield if it's a bunch of S.W.A.T. officers. It would be a police force FPS. The whole idea of battlefield is that you fight on a, well... battlefield. They're games with large player counts and vehicles, not super tactical games with 5v5 teams. I know, I know, there are 5v5 play lists and "competitive" (lol) BF4 is played with those team sizes.

But ask yourself, just how popular is "competitive" (lol) BF4?

I've seen one stream of it and it was booooooring as hell to watch and I LOVE BF4.

Perhaps. I'm assuming they've stuck the Battlefield name on it because it's well known, not because it's gonna be a 64+ SWAT running around a city in SWAT tanks and the like causing havoc. That's assuming this is real, of course.

I think a SWAT game could easily have a fairly large player count and still be realistic. Maybe not 64, but still could be quite big and include helicopters and armoured vehicles.

Perhaps a cops vs. robbers kind of thing could be cool.

Say based on 6v6 with the ability to have upwards of 12v12. Rob banks, federal reserves, other gangs and the S.W.A.T. team has to stop you.

/shrug

I suppose that could be fun, if done right.

Still, it wouldn't be battlefield in the strictest sense of the franchise. It could be that people that know about this (IF it exists to begin with) know that FB3 is being used and just coined the term "Battlefield S.W.A.T.".

Well, Visceral & Criterion are making unannounced games. Visceral made Dead Space but that series got put on the back burner after lackluster sales of the last title. Then Criterion made Black back in the day. So one of those two companies is doing a Frostbite 3 game & EA competes in each genre relatively. They need a FPS for this Fall to compete with Call of Duty sales since Medal of Honor is canned for a long time. One of those companies is rumored to be making a police/SWAT themed Battlefield type spin-off, but possibly with less player counts in more tighter city environments. Then there's the rumor there might be a 3rd person style shooter from the other company. Then BioWare is working on Mass Effect 4 & Dragon Age: Inquisition. DICE is working on Star Wars: Battlefront 3 for Fall 2015, next year. Then there will be the usual sport sequels like Madden, etc.

It makes the most sense that Criterion might be working on a Frostbite 3 FPS, then Visceral a 3rd person game, but who knows since the rumors keep saying Visceral is doing the FPS Frostbite title. Why not have Criterion do that though, they know FPS's & destruction with Black, then Visceral knows 3rd person space games...so they could make a 3rd person Star Wars maybe? I dunno...

Game could be good if the concept is done right. If the gunplay is just like COD, then I don't see how different this game would be from what we're already playing other than it'd be different player model skins.

If it does a true attack/defend, hostage rescue, bomb defuse, etc...then that'd be cool, but then we already have Counter-strike right?

I guess MoH is done for good. In its place..... another BF game! BF: Hardline..... sounds like a spin off from Call of Duty.

I'm positive I read somewhere years back that EA doesn't want to do annualized BF games like Activision. LOL

If they expect me to buy a new BF game + premium @ $100+ each year they've got another thing coming, especially after the fiasco that has been BF4. I've been playing on the CTE lately and it IS better, but so long as they (and private server admins) allow people with 200+ pings to play with those that have good pings the game WILL suffer as a whole.

So if they want me to spend $100+ each year they need to:

1) Not FVCK IT UP IN SPECTACULAR FASHION
2) Not allow people with a ping over 120ms to join a server. There are many servers worldwide, surely they can find at least 1 with a ping < 120ms
3) Reduce the number of explosive devices by at least 60%

Def intrigued but cautious after it has taken nearly 6 months to get bf4 to a playable state....

Now the leaks indicate that the new game is called Battlefield: Hardline, and it's a gunfight between SWAT team and robbers. Think of Payday... Geez, I gotta buy this.

Oh wait, it's official:

I wonder what we can expect from it. Will it feel like a Battlefield game? Will there be tactics for us to use? Is it MP only or offers both a campaign and online? Curious!

I'm intrigued. If heists are actual heists, combined with the set piece events (Levolution or whatever they were called) from BF4 this could be pretty cool. I'm against yearly franchises for the most part, but if it's a completely unique and fresh Battlefield experience rather than the traditional all-out-war Battlefields I'm fairly okay with it. If it's simply a glorified team deathmatch like all but one or two BF4 modes are but this time with SWAT and thieves then I'm out.

Need to see it in action at e3 before I get any opinions. Definitely intrigued and the dev is one of my faves.

BATTLEFIELD HARDLINE COMING THIS FALL

On behalf of everyone at EA and Visceral Games, I’m fired up to confirm our next project – Battlefield Hardline. The game launches this fall and it’s a brand new series in the Battlefield franchise, set against the backdrop of a genre we all love – the war on crime and the battle between cops and criminals.

Several years ago, I was at an internal EA meeting in Barcelona with creative leaders from across the company. It was there I met Karl Magnus Troedsson, the GM of DICE, for the first time, and we immediately began talking about games – I’ve always loved Battlefield and KM was a huge fan of Dead Space, which I was working on at the time. We started talking about different ways we could work together, different ways we could take Battlefield and action games in a new direction. It was then that this project that became Battlefield Hardline was born.

There’s been a lot of buzz today about Battlefield Hardline – we’re getting ready for E3 and fans found some details on our website about what we’re working on for the show. We’ve been reading all of your comments and we’re excited to be going into more detail soon on the ways we’re adding new twists and turns to the foundation of Battlefield multiplayer and more about how we’re bringing our strengths at Visceral to single player.

I hope you’ll join us for the official world premiere on June 9 at Noon PDT, and sign up for updates on the new game at our web site www.battlefield.com/hardline.
