I've had nearly a week and a lot of hours put into Call of Duty: Ghosts. Originally I gave the game a rather glowing review. I liked so much of it. Has my opinion changed with the game? Yes, unfortunately it has.
What opinion has changed for me and why? Lag comp!
The first day or two of Call of Duty: Ghosts was like a godsend. I was dying more frequently than in the past but there was nothing I could contribute to the engine's lag comp. While I was dying more frequently I was OK with that since I was causing those deaths. When in a party, lag comp was evident but not while playing solo. Unfortunately, that's no longer the case anymore.
There are countless times where I know I was moving behind cover when someone was shooting but only to reveal on the kill cam that I was nowhere near cover on his or her screen. Then there are the times when on my screen I would die before the opponent’s gun even rises to the shooting level. On the opponents screen I die as it’s being raised. When confronted with that the game becomes unplayable.
It is always like that, no. When you’re on the receiving end of a good lag comp you feel like you’ve enacted god mode, but when it happens often, which it is now, the game is completely broken. I’m not sure why it wasn’t prevalent the first few days but it's happening many more times than not. It’s ruining the game. It’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II all over again. That game ended up seriously broken with how bad the lag comp is.
Will this lag comp issue change on the Xbox One and dedicated servers?
Will this lag comp change on the Xbox One with dedicated servers? I seriously hope so or this will be the last CoD that I buy. I haven’t seen that the game is changing it’s net code for the dedicated servers but I would assume that based on going from P2P to dedicated it would change the online experience or so I hope it will. I'm giving the game one last shot. After that, I'm done with the series until there's a change with how the multiplayer is coded. I'll just RedBox or Gamefly it.
The first couple of days got my hopes up. Unfortunately, it was a short lived honeymoon period. *sigh*
The rest of my review still stands. I still think the game looks good and don’t see any downgrade whatsoever with the graphics. There’s very few dropped games and lag hiccups.
