Yesterday, IGN reported Sony was sending out emails to PlayStation users, requiring password changes after noticing "irregular activity" on PSN accounts. Following our story, we received messages from multiple sources claiming their accounts were used to make unverified purchases. According to one person, his account was used to add $150 to his PlayStation Store wallet, while another found mysterious purchases related to FIFA 14.

better check your accounts people its that time again.

Oh boy, another hack like the big one a couple of years ago would really suck for everybody. Hopefully people who have lost money can somehow recoup it.

And this is why I only buy pre-paid PSN cards to use with my account. Even after they supposedly "fixed" everything after hackpocalypse, I knew I'd never trust them with a CC.

I actually would suggest the same for MS owners, as i had a similar FIFA hack on the 360 a few years ago (MS did credit my account back). I only buy pre-cards cards on both systems now. Its really not that much of a hassle to do so and does lessen any damage that can be done.

same thing happened to me on my 360 that's why I never leave my credit card info on any systems anymore. The person took $75 from my account...don't know why OP is turning this into some kind of Sony issue when it happens with MS also.

I've got payment coming through my paypal account on XBL. That might not be as safe as I think. Does MS have pre-paid "cash" cards? If so, I guess I should be using those. I don't trust my CC or bank info on either system (although MS's seems more secure).

As I said before, MS is still not crazy with the whole EA servers because its tied to xbox live leaving a back door open. There have been no other games beside EA titles that cause this problems. Sony in the other hand just have a open box of problems.

It's an IGN article not created by the OP?

Because it just happened this week with PSN and it's news? You look to point fingers at anybody that posts anything about the PlayStation that happens to not be positive. Keep up the crusade.

Yeah because posts like this coming from the site OWNER is so constructive and not at all scary to your Playstation posters. Funny I have never seen you post anything even remotely similar in the Xbox forums where this is rampant. I questioned McMasters sales numbers that the Xbox One was selling EXPONENTIALLY and was basically yelled out of a thread and was told it was all because I was just jealous that I didn't own an Xbox, etc. I would have loved to have the site owner come in there and tell them "not to point fingers at anybody that posts anything about the Xbox that happens to not be positive."

This was posted by Nervusbreakdown, aka you know who from TXB. His followup post? Microsoft is all good and the PS4 is an "open box of problems." How about I do the same thing when I see negative news articles about the X1, which are not hard to find, and I'll start posting them in the Xbox forum and we'll see how it goes and see how well you come to my defense and tell guys like Mcmasters to "keep up the crusade."

I know its hard to see when you are one of them, but have some self-respect for your site and see how this all comes across, and how it can be scary to Playstation fans when you not only have all these TXB members, but the actual owner of the site is against you.

Of course this will be all in one ear and out the other since I'm "yoyoniner." And you'll ask why I continue to post here. Well, I do post less here lately as I'm sure others do, because of all of the above. But old habits are hard to break and I enjoyed the TXB community since 2001, but it is obvious this is no TXB. This is Plainview's forum, who was one of the most diehard Xbox defenders on TXB. And I bet no one will "like" this post because you are the site owner and people are scared to speak up because they know where you stand.

Yeah the PS4 and PSN is just one "open box of problems." I predict a multiple page thread incoming as who would lock it when the owner of this site is Plainview from TXB (who posted his own thread just a couple weeks ago with a well researched, completely false article that you couldn't get a replacement PS4 until February).

Hey look, someone is making yet another thread about himself. You are a one sided poster who has the inability to construct a single positive post about anything not PlayStation. When you do then come an talk to me. As far as point to Apollo, there's nothing wrong with my post. Who cares who manes a thread if it's a valid thread? Sony has sent out messages to members about their accounts being compromised. This just happens. This is an issue.who cares who brought it to light?

As far as the article that was posted about the replacement issues, after the story was proven to be false I accordingly edited it and pointed it out. You're too biased to see that or call attention to that because of your agenda. But I'm a fanboy and I only take out my fanboy wrath on anybody who doesn't worship at the feet of Lord Xbox. You found me out.

Yoyo, you need to keep my name out of your mouth mate. Make your stand on your own or dont make a stand at all. People having their accounts hacked is no small issue I dont care which console you own. The same thing has happened on my acct with the 360 but Microsoft put the money back in my account. I'm still not too thrilled about it but at least it was rectified. This is the second time something like this has happened with Sony and it sucks to be a Ps4 owner and have to worry about your account being accessed by someone without proper authority. Sony's and Microsoft's job is to keep your account safe from this type of thing and they lose trust from their user base when it happens. Hell, even Microsoft lost my trust when my account was accessed without my permission.

Online accounts get hacked all the time. This has been going on for years on PS3/360 and PC. It's not news that it's happening to next gen PSN/Xbox Live accounts. There's literally nothing to report here, other than a new version of FIFA leading to more FIFA related account hacks. People's accounts getting hacked isn't exclusive to PS4 or Sony.

Unless you have a reliable source that PSN itself was hacked and passwords stolen from it, this is just the usual people's accounts getting compromised that happens every day and has been going on for years.

It's rather obvious this is just a troll FUD/s*** stirring thread, just like the PS4 hardware issues thread was invaded and multiple threads were started about "PS4 bricks" and "overheating", etc. Then they falsely accuse me of doing exactly what they're doing. Mind blowing cognitive dissonance.

It's hardly a fud thread when there's news of this at multiple places. So when Sony is sending out emails to a number of their customers and it's a story on a bunch of news outlets it's a fud story and there's should be a thread made of it? Did I get that right?

It's not someone who tells people to be carefull also on Xbox - because it happened to them there - wich is on a crusade. :-/
A warning is just a warning, not a prophecy. No reason to blast someone for providing common sense.

Most people seemed to think that Xbox Live qualified as secure, despite same thing were happening there for more than 2-3 years on 360 were it went on unchecked - until a victim posted a receipe for how to breach Xbox Live webstore-security and several medias reported on the guide, and then MS fixed it, and the Fifa-servers supposedly got secure and victims reports died off.

We don't know if this is issues with Sony-security or if it's simply people who's sold their old PSP/PSV/PS3's and without wiping their PSN-password.
I know that first time I used my CC on my new PS4 I got asked to reenter my payment details, since it registered it were on a new system - just like last generation when PS3's avoided this same method scam compared to 360 used by hackers on Fifa, supposedly because you needed to reenter the details each time you were on a new system.
So it shouldn't be enough to just know the password to get to other people's content like on 360 last generation, or like the IGN article makes you think - you would also need to know CC-details, since you have to reenter those whenever shopping on PSN on a new system.

If you get scammed this way and actually loose money, and hasn't sold your previous playstations and expect you are a victim of a unsecure store - I would reccomend changing credit cards aswell, not just password. :-/

Nope, learn to read.
IGN article mentioned in OP's article brought up the Fifa-hack from 360.
Quote:
The inclusion of FIFA in the mix brings back memories of 2011, when multiple Xbox 360 users' accounts suddenly found charges of FIFA 12 content they had never purchased.

Several people commented at that episode, and but here on TEAM XBOX you can only comment on the negative PS-news - or you'll be blasted for beeing on a crusade.. :-/
I explained the security-differences in place compared to back then, I didn't justify anything - you need both PW and CC details - before you shop on each Playstation.
So it's not enough to change PSN PW, if this has actually happened. :-/

Scared to speak up, lol. If PV were the kind of person you are accusing him of being -- some hugely biased, out of control fanboy drunk with power -- I'd be all over him, criticizing him right and left, just like he'd do the same to me.

Plainview doesn't need me to defend him, so I won't. But I will say I'm getting tired of your vendetta against him and the repeated diatribes about him and the site. He's trying to create an equitable forum, and imo is doing a good job of it in a very challenging time (peak of the console wars).

This is a site where the members lean strongly in favor of Xbox and away from PS4. That's just the way it is. What that means is you're going to get more Xbox fans posting negative stuff about PS/Sony, more digs at PS4/Sony, more defenders of the X1, more positive news about X1, downplaying of the negative, etc. etc. -- it comes with the territory. And since the mods can't catch it all, just proportionally, there will be more of the pro-Xbox/anti-PS stuff missed than the other way around. If you can't accept that, then this forum isn't a good fit for you.

Yes they do. I haven't used a credit card on any of my consoles. Safest way to go. But if you do go that route make sure you go with the new gift cards and not the old point cards. The old point cards now have a year expiration date on the money put into your account. I don't believe the new gift cards have the same limitations.

Yup, just ordered myself a $50 gift card. Merry Christmas, me.

There was no hack.

There was a massive stolen credential dump from a key logger Trojan.

Sony was "hacked" once but every other "my account got stolen, money was spent" reports come from someone, or an automated piece of software, using your credentials obtained from somewhere else.

Sony does lack 2 step verification... So until they get that implemented you'll probably here more reports of PSN "hacks" (that aren't hacks.)

Also apparently PS4 caches your credentials and lets you stay logged in even after a password change. Now THAT is a real security problem.

well PV does point out Sony fanyboys but never Xbox fanboys just my observation....

I disagree. He called out Intelli and Astro all the time when they were around and has thread banned people from certain PS threads.
he'll thread ban people, sure, but he doesnt call out people like he just did with apollo.
