I'm a little torn on whether CD should've apologized or not. On the one hand, I can see what he's saying -- you give in to these people, and they just feel more empowered and reinforced.
On the other hand, people saying "don't apologize" have no skin in the game, and they take no risks. CD would have to risk potentially losing sales or having their game tarnished by association with this sort of "controversy." Issuing an apology makes it go away. And it wasn't a real, heartfelt apology anyhow. It was one of those non-apology apologies. "Sorry if you got offended. We didn't mean any harm." If I had hundreds of millions on the line, I'd probably do that, too.
