Destiny Alpha Access

Halo don't have ads or double jumps plus the bullet damage is much better in Destiny.

This game is better is better in everyway SO FAR.

To me it feels like a mix of a bunch of games. Borderlands 2, Star Wars, Diablo III, Warframe, Killzone and Halo.

Well those things are enough to mean the movement isn't very similar to halo 4. Its very similar to me.

I knew from the videos I've seen that I would like this and I was right after playing for about two hours. This has a Halo vibe in the presentation and feel of the shooting and melee but this is much more with deeper elements such as classes with skills/abilities to acquire and grow more powerful. I like how a random event spawned on my way to a mission and then I was fighting along side other players. When there are a few players around and everyone is firing their weapons and using their abilities the game really shines. I chose the Warlok class and it throws out some energy bolts similar to what we've seen in Mass Effect games. The weapons and abilities feel powerful and fun to use. I think this will be a game with serious legs with the loot feature for weapons and armor that will continually enhance the fun gun-play.

Just got the code/downloaded it. chitownc18 is my username if anybody wants some co-op gaming.

We should organize several 3-members parties and go demolish some enemy Fallens, ;)

The movement feels alot like halo 4 to me, surprised some posters are raving about it in here now.

That is what I was thinking as well. I started up the game this morning, and I was just waiting for Cortana to appear too! :)

So far, it's Halo meets Borderlands. I am loving the very little I have played so far. So is the game just solo if you don't invite others to the game? I just launched and started following the waypoints, and fighting. Nobody was with me.

Also the abilities feel like Mass Effect biotic powers. The visuals definitely conjure a Halo feel. You might see other players while you're on the way to a mission and if you're lucky a random event will spawn so you can do battle with other guardians. Last night at the hub-world there were tons of players running around so I assume that's a place to meet and group up. I'm not sure though as I didn't try any of the social features.

This might be one of those games where it doesn't look fun in videos. But if gamers liked Halo, Borderlands and Mass Effect they will like this game I think.

Tech Analysis:

1080p confirmed. Not sure what @consolewarz was talking about 900p.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-destiny-alpha-tech-analysis

Based on our experience with the Destiny alpha on PS4, it feels as though the studio has reached its goal, delivering the no-compromise experience we've been waiting for.

On PS4, the jump to full 1080p resolution makes a massive difference.

Performance wise, Destiny delivers a stable 30fps regardless of on-screen action, interrupted only by issues with frame-pacing.

What we can say for now is simply that Destiny is shaping up to be a classic shooter. Despite sharing similarities with games such as Borderlands and of course the studio's own Halo titles, Bungie's attention to detail and incredibly polished combat results in something decidedly special. Few developers manage to pull off world-building quite like Bungie and it's fantastic to see the technology fully pulling its weight in delivering a unique vision. When September finally arrives you can be certain that Digital Foundry will finally put all four versions to the test - and of course, we'll be checking out the beta code next month with much interest.

What's everyone's thoughts on the competitive multiplayer?

I played it this morning and it felt like Halo, but the vehicles/gunplay felt like they lacked some of the fun/oomph that Halo's multiplayer has. The announcer is also annoying.

I also felt that the multiplayer is a better fit for more arena style play (power weapons placed throughout).

Guys, remember you can change your weapons, armor, suits, boots etc. as you loot them. I found out at the end of my game session last night, haha.

How do you do that? I didn't seem able to.

Also, is it just me or do some players have shields, while others don't?

I gave my impressions a page or 2 ago.
I think its significantly better then Halo.

Once you loot them, you press options, go to your character and then just click on the different weapons, armor etc and you should see the different options that you can select. There is like up to 9 slots and back at the homeworld, there are vaults where you can put your old weapons or armor you don't need. I thought everyone had shields?

My shield sucks it seems like one hit its gone. Not sure that is how the game is or I just suck.

You probably suck. Remember, you and I both sucked at Killzone 4, so we must suck! ;)

Remember to change your armor as the initial armour you get, the defense is not as good. I unlocked some sick suit but I can't equip it until level 8.

Also, you should go pay the homeworld a visit if you haven't already since you can unlock/decrypt new items and weapons from some of the vendors there.

I've played it more and it has grown on me now. Don't know if I like it as much as Halo's multiplayer, but it seems like the game will make the absence of Halo 5 this holiday season much, much easier to bear. They feel very similar. Having both games would be overkill.

pvp is amazing fun. the high health and double jumps (which allow lethally quick traversing once learned: hunter class only, i believe) allow each life to feel like something substantial, and capable of doing real damage, if youre a good player. thats in contrast to COD where you're guaranteed a short life (if you play the objective). loving it so far

PvE on the other hand... i dunno. seems very repetitive... clear out this room.. clear out the next room... there didnt seem to be anything to it

Has anyone else taken on the Death Walker yet? If you haven't done the Devils' Lair mission be prepared for a tough but fun mission. I've done some side missions and they are fun but short. Strike missions are where its at though. My Warlok is at lvl6 now and I've found a sniper rifle that does flame damage, awesome sauce. I tried a little PVP and its fun but predictable, I'll be investing in Destiny for its massive amount of single/co-op content.

I'll be on around 8:30PM CT if anyone else is going to be around. Wouldn't mind giving a mission or two a try.

Just completed the strike mission, it was a awesome time and I got a rocket launcher. This game has me hooked.

I found the explore missions to be dull though. Does anybody know what the point is of these? Or how big this level is and if it can be beaten?

the devil walkers would be so much more fun if they actually walked around. my game consisted of hiding behind cover taking potshots until it died (theres a method to it aswell btw: shoot it legs until it falls, then shoot its neck). it was more of a time drainer than a "challenge", in my opinion.

I'll be on later tonight if anyone wants to group up. hit me up.
