Destiny Reviews Thread

Well it isn't often I agree with Val but I think it is great. Talking to my friends who love the halo franchise they all love destiny and I believe the combat has evolved again... :grin: The closest game to me this style is Mass Effect which I really enjoyed but it can't compete with the combat in destiny. Mass effects story could wipe the floor with destiny but that like other factors are features in the background compared to the combat.
 
The beta did absolutely nothing for me. Not a terrible game, but average at best for my standards.

They couldn't even do the UI right. It's sluggish and whose idea was it to have gamers use a cursor as if they are playing a PC game with a mouse?

On the other hand, another Activision game on console (Diablo 3) plays fantastically smooth in-game and UI interface.

I think the UI is pretty great really.
 
The problem with most of the reviews is that the reviews were put up before they even experienced life after level 20. Typical race to get clicks instead of having a little journalistic integrity. Before the Raid, imo an 8, after Raid 8.8/9.2.

The majority of reviews came out 2-3 days after retail release. The game deserved the score it got.

Great review of the game. I really hope Activision/Bungie hears this stuff...

He lost me the minute he basically called people fanboys who are happy with the purchase. The guy is so annoying I can't even watch the whole review.
 
My biggest gripe with the game is lvl'ing past 20. I wish there was more variation to the Strikes and end game farming. If I have to play the Summoning Pits strike one more time I think I'm gonna scream. I wouldn't mind the Pit Strike if it had a different Boss/enemies or scenario, say after you get there so do the Vex. It needs some variation.

Yeah I hear ya. I got burned out last night and threw in Titanfall and had wayy too much fun again. :D

this game is all about expectations if youre expecting halo youre gonna be disappointed. if you like loot games youre gonna enjoy it.

Yeah, because this game just inundates you with a veritable cornucopia of worthwhile loot.

It's not a loot game- it's a grinding game.

Im not a huge fan of Angry Joe, but he is 100 percent right. He makes great points.

Seeing the Vidoc footage after knowing the game makes them sound like they are lying through their teeth. His commentary on loot and leveling is right on too.

The last few minutes of that vid makes me glad I didn't buy.

The new Queen's Orders missions gives you guaranteed legendaries. I just got 2 legendaries for completing 2 of them but seems like there's a limit.

I think its two armour pieces and two weapons. So far I've seen a helmet, a chest piece and a sniper rifle given out

So no gauntlets? Damn, that's the only one I'm missing to get everything legendary/exotic. Well, at least you can dismantle and get Ascendant materials.

What level are you and which boss? You playing alone or with at least 1 co-op partner? The game is waaaaaaaaaaaaay more enjoyable when playing with another person(s) though. Don't know if it scales based on number of members in your fireteam but some of the Story bosses would likely be hard for just one player who is below/just at appropriate level. I wouldn't know exactly though as I've played the entire game with at least one co-op partner.

I am going it alone. I am at level 11 character, play Level 12 (or 13 story). The boss is sitting/standing in front of a big gold throne when I enter the room, and the door closes behind me.

Lemme guess, Venus story for Scourge of Winter where you have to kill the Kell? Yeah, I can imagine that would be hard solo as there are a number of guys and the Kell is huge and hard to take down. My best recommendation is to move, move, move. Take out as many of the minions as you can (combo of melee and shooting; I melee a lot in this game but I am a Titan class so built for it) and then concentrate on the Kell. Save your "super charged" ability and "Special" and "Heavy" weapon shots for the Kell....or get some friends to help :).

Hmmm, outside the strike missions I’ve been soloing as well and haven’t had much trouble. I don’t remember the boss you’re referring to based off your description. But I’m at lvl18 or 19 now and been breezing through the story missions.

Have you tried the multiplayer? It seems to level you up pretty fast early on so maybe that might help. As Tenton mentioned I too have noticed that missions can be tough if you are right at the minimum level requirement. So play some multi, complete some bounties or patrol missions to try and get to that next level.

I would man but I'm on PST so in middle of my work day. I don't usually start playing until after 9pm my time. Makes it hard to play with anybody but west coast folks. What time zone you in and what is your normal playing time?

I am usually DONE gaming by 8pm CDT. How about on a weekend, like this Sunday during the day? Not a big deal, I know I can find others to help too...just throwing that out there.
