Destiny Reviews Thread

Fair enough, but someone bringing up Halo's repetition today is a fair comparison in regards to defending Destiny, seeing as those dinging Destiny, are those saying that they expected more from Bungie.

yeah, for me personally, I just can't stand whoring out the exact same locals over and over, "kill 10 knights" etc, that stuff is beyond tedious, even in the beta I lost interest. With halo, it gets repetitive, but it least you don't turn around and all the enemies respawn.
Its almost like bungie went into development thinking they can get away with certain things because their more of an MMO now, instead of rewriting the formula more. In mnay ways its a step back, I actually think halo CE elites have better AI than anything I've seen in destiny.

I would like to to see a ME1 style game like this, actually exploring the planet.

EDIT: destiny, yeah.

Looks and sounds like maybe Destiny 2 will be the game everyone has been hyped for since this was announced.

I wouldn't be worried about Destiny 2 yet. We know it's going to be epic.
I'm confused. Sure we may see a Destiny 2, but are we thinking that the "not so remarkable" reviews from the first are really not going to effect the sales of the next? If Im already reluctant to pick up the first (and with good reason) the amount of units sold aren't going to suddenly change my mind the next time. There are many people who find what Destiny offers on tap not that impressive and dull. That usually doesnt inspire a great need to purchase the next release regardless of who jumped on board the hype train with the first.

Your loss for not picking this one up, Mc. Myself and many others on this forum are having a blast since launch. It's been the only game I've played since then. At first I was skeptical like you but after passing the alpha and beta parts of the game, it's really opened up a lot of new options for you to do.

Nah reviews aint affecting it... Its the most successful new ip this gen and will prob end up in the top 3 sales wise this year.

Ghosts blows chunks. It's literally the first CoD game that I've stopped playing, and stopped some time ago. Every other CoD game I've played up until the new release, and still go back to. Ghost....utter garbage. It doesn't even feel like a CoD game to me.
Exactly and it looks as if the average reviews from sites rate it higher? Wtf?

I experienced all I needed to in order to make my decision. Its not a loss on my part. Thats just my opinion of course. And there are some who are enjoying but there are many others who found it repetitive, uninspiring and dull. If its anything like the Beta, another nineteen hours of the same thing over and over doesnt seem like a lot of fun to me. Glad your enjoying it though.:)

Screw the reviews if you like fps and a diverse enemy count I'm telling you bungie doesn't disappoint. I'm loving the grind up and bounty system.

Im not just talking about the reviews. It just didnt move me when I played it. Sure playing with others is cool but there was this nagging feeling that at Destiny's core, it was as empty as an egg shell. And I like FPS for sure. I was just expecting more and unfortunately it wast there for me.

The beta to level8 just scratches the surface IMO and I've read that the game doesn't even get to full steam until lvl20.
The beta kinda sucked because you get to level 8 pretty quick and then are just stuck there playing the same things over and over.

Yeah I am hearing it takes off level 20 on.

Integrating the social aspect into gameplay is the key to the fun factor. If you've beaten the alpha/beta, then that really is just the scratch of the surface. The game opens up and I mean... OPENS UP.

Agreed.

I don't think a game on current consoles offers as much as Destiny except maybe BF4. Content is king

Yeah I am hearing it takes off level 20 on.

Yeah, hopefully they keep up with the support for those different raids, weekly strikes and missions. Leveling up after Lvl. 20 is based on luck, I've been told depending on what type of loot is dropped for you in both Crucible and Story mode.

This game shouldn't get a review score. After playing I get why reviews and opinions are all over the place. After playing, it is just that kind of game. Some are going to love it, some are going to hate it, and some are going to fall in between.

Normally I have a good read on a game before I buy. I know what I like and I know what I don't. Give me a demo or even some details and I can usually make a good decision.

With Destiny though I had no feel for the game. Would I like it? Would I hate it? I tend to not like MMOs at all (any kind of a grind is boring to me usually.

I finally got it the other night and I haven't stopped playing. I'm having tons of fun. That said, I don't disagree with most criticisms.

The only thing I would say is that people shouldn't dismiss the game because of the beta. For me, it gets more fun as the game goes along.

That, and a game can be flawed and still be really good

Pretty much all truth in this.

I just beat the story last night. It took about 16 hours to get to this stage, which included some patrols and some repeated strikes but zero crucible.

I'm now level 22. Once you reach 20 you get a message saying the level limit is reached. XP now gets used for rep I think. Exotic and legendary drops now get enabled. To get past 20 you need to equip rare or greater armour that has a Light score in its stats. Only armour has Light. No weapons or equipment have it. Your combined Light score gives you the extra levels. If you take off a piece of armour, you lose that Light score, so it becomes a balancing act.

Some vendors will sell Light based armour but mostly they are found in drops so yes, its completely random on how quickly you can level past 20. The frequency of rare drops just increase a good bit once you get to 20 though plus the daily and weekly challenge and strike play list have good chances of drops.

Its very like Diablo in this regard, the end game is where the real action begins.

Metro 2033 redux was a great 2 games with great atmosphere. With that it doesn't hold a candle to destiny in the overall production. Better weapons, bigger boards, better muliplayer, better replayability, daily and weekly content added... It almost seems the metacritic averages between these 2 titles should be switch metro holding a 90 to destiny's 75.

This game is not even close to Halo, imo.
The SP story isnt in the same league, and Id take Halo MPs worst day over Destiny's.
Destiny is still good, though.
lol, Val would have said that no matter how good this game was. Just walk away slowly...

The only thing I find funny is the game seems to get docked for things other games don't. It is repetitive is one of the major things I keep hearing but what game isn't. Diablo, WOW, Titanfall, COD and yet these games get rereatedly high scores. Just seems like a lot of hypocrisy.

If Destiny is getting dinged for being repetitive, every game I have played better get the same ding.

It's soooo much better than the beta. As you unlock more and more loot, more and more weapons, new planets, the game just keeps getting freaking better and better, more challenging, more beautiful and more fun.

It's not the repetition in gameplay (that's great!), but repetition in scenarios and how they play out. It really does feel like the same thing over and over without a strong story to keep that interesting.

The enemies pretty much all play and behave the same as well. It lacks the enemy interplay that they had in Halo that made encounters more dynamic than your average bear.

Thankfully the gameplay is good fun, and as a shooter it's definitely top-tier, imo.

Not true at all as a former fan I played every Halo pc versions included, own the BR and action figures/vehicles. Destiny just offers much more.
And that former fan comment is open to change IF a future Halo offers enough newness.

Destiny offering much more is an opinion. Some ppl like the halo multiplayer more and that offers more gameplay for them.

I find it funny how you dance around reviews scores, sales, or whatever when it fits your argument. When the UC games were reviewing highly you didn't want to talk about sales, only reviews, now with destiny reviews aren't a big deal, just your friends list and sales. lol, but when halo sells well, it didn't mean anything.

No actually its not a opinion Destiny offers way more your spinning saying some prefer Halo's MP more doesn't change this reality.

I haven't danced around anything. Why you say this because I point out Destiny being a success regardless of mixed reviews?

Don't worry this time the PS brand will be like it was 2 generations(and now 3) in NA ie have a great user base so not only will the UC's and TLOU's review better then anything MS makes(like usual) they will also outsell anything MS makes.

I honestly don't think you understand how this works. If someone plays halo more, it offers more. Why are you so thick to understand that? There is no spinning, preference is preference.

Yeah you do dance around it, whatever agenda you have you just change your stance to fit it, its pretty typical of you.

Sales? I don't remember UC or TloU outselling halo last gen either, they each could barely muster half of what halo 4 did.

Are you that bad of a spinner?
If somebody likes Halo more then that's a preference which doesn't change facts.

UC/TLOU didn't sell as well due to PS3 not being as much of a success as the 360 was in NA. (Thought I was pretty clear?)
As I said already things are different now and they both will outsell anything Halo included MS puts out.

Your sentence doesn't' make sense about halo as a preference and facts.

I have no doubt Uc and TLoU will outsell halo this gen, i know it will make you happy :) we all know how you would come in halo threads for years and trolled them to death, and even trolled halo in non halo threads, COD and crysis on TXB.

I guess it wouldn't.
A preference and more content are two different things.
I voiced my displeasure with the series after years of supporting the franchise and then playing a wannabe Halo CE remake aka H4.

I understand.

Look saying something "offers more" is completely relative to the person. If you and I build a game with 50 million planets and 30 trillion guns, armor pieces etc etc, that doesn't mean s*** if its outplayed by a game with 1% of that amount of content, its about gameplay. Gameplay offers more, not maps and guns. For some ppl it does sure, but others want that tight multiplayer gameplay or whatever.

Destiny offers more in content and you can do more in gameplay :p
