360 wins, innit?

The list of visual downgrades is too numerous to tally. To reel off the biggest points quickly, each console renders at 1024x600 (typical of last-gen series outings), with a vastly simplified lighting model, removed objects and background details, bilinear texture filtering, and reduced character geometry - notably missing the PS4 and Xbox One's subsurface scattering for skin. The result is one of the most stark cross-generational divides in recent memory.

However, it's a different story for the multiplayer mode, and for a few reasons. Across all its included 13 maps, the heart of Advanced Warfare's engine still ticks at a fair rate on the 360, and plays with the same cut-down visual setup as the campaign with v-sync again engaged.
But the deal-breaker is in PS3's multiplayer performance. Stages like Detroit and Instinct suffer from shocking performance levels, on par with the campaign's worst, and in each case the PS3 chugs along at around 45-50fps. It's a tangibly different competitive experience to the 60fps average of Xbox One and PS4 versions, and even a relatively smooth 360 edition, sparing its low 50fps dips on heavy gunfire.
Even a lowered player cap, going from 18 on current-gen consoles to just 12 on PS3 and 360, can't save Sony's platform from these sustained dips. As it happens, this detracts from the scale of larger Ground War battles, though it fits into the template of existing Call of Duty games on these formats.

Intellivision versus DriedMangoes me if old.

Last gen?

No surprise there. The 360 was the better multiplat console last gen. Call of Duty always looked and performed better on Xbox.

And it was the least powerful console of the two last gen. Dem software toolz.

That X1 moment... oh wait.

Hard to tell who won based on user so I had to actually enter this thread.

PS3 is the preferred last gen version.

Keeping all of this in mind, if we had to make a choice between the two versions, we would have to give the nod to the PlayStation 3 release. The average frame-rate in both versions of the game is very similar but the lack of screen tearing on PS3 makes a world of difference in terms of presentation. Furthermore, texture streaming performance is quite a bit faster and MLAA often produces a more pleasing image, despite some limited coverage in certain areas.

All these DF threads not posted by DM or Intelli are really throwing me off, man.

Sounds like both versions are pretty close though.

Sorry boss, I promise not to be objective, unbiased and platform agnostic ever again.

Good. We can't have that sort of thing in these topics.

Do like that DF are doing this as millions still play on these consoles.

Agreed.

We can be elitist here and cast the PS3 and 360 aside as old hat, not worth the time. Truth is a lot of kids will be opening up one of these consoles as their first gaming machine ever this Christmas. Amazon UK has the 360 with FIFA outselling the Xbox One bundles and standalone.

DO NOT BUY THE 360 OR PS3 VERSION. s*** SANDWICH.

Patched to version 1.01, the results on PS3 are particularly shocking, and the worst we've seen on the console in recent memory. The crux of it is that entire passages of play unfold at 10-20fps, even while exploring Mordor's wastelands without a marauding Uruk in sight. Frame-rates are better on Xbox 360 by a regular 5fps margin, but both suffer from horrendous screen-tear, operating at a Vita-esque resolution of 960x540 to boot.

Shadow of Mordor's core game design may well be too much for the Xbox 360 and PS3, but the apparent lack of care and attention is what truly rankles. The bugs, the choppy sound on Sony's hardware, the 15-second wait to resume from pause screens, and the chugging, sub-20fps performance issues all outweigh any positives at the heart of this effort. In scouring our local supermarkets to source copies for this review, the PS3 release proved hardest to track down. In its current state, we hope this simply points to a limited print run, rather than a popular choice of gift.

This has been a last gen service announcement.

Wow, really happy to see these "Last-gen Revisited" articles (first Advanced Warfare, then DA: Inquisition, now this). I just hope they do one for The Evil Within! Thanks for posting!

Absolutey love DAI, but i do sometimes wonder how much better it would have looked if it was not cross gen.

Probably not much. Bioware are not know for great looking games.

Good game is still good game. Shame on you people for not buying it! Go play your MCC...oh wait...it doesn't work! Serves you right! I hope Halo 5 is as broken! *cries*

Alright, enough is enough. I dub Troublegum the DF last-gen re-visited thread creator from now on.
