After learning that the PS4 won't support basic functions such as playing MP3's or audio discs or streaming media from a PC, do we already know if the XB1 support these "basic" functions?

Oh, don't forget that external hard drives don't work on the PS4, either. So sorry, you can't put your saves on a stick.

Whut? This is all news to me. I've been using external hdds from Seagate for my OG 360. They work like a charm. I hope X1 supports them. Not being able to play mp3s , music cds or use external hdds is pretty weird. Did the 360 spoil us?

On the XB1, it will support an external HDD but it will not support using it to save games at launch. I just hope that MS includes support for MP3's and streaming media from a PC.

I hope that changes later down the line.
I do hope that MS includes support for saving games to an external HDD as well. When they do, I was thinking of using a SSD hooked up to the USB 3.0, it should be pretty quick

I'm sorry I've stumbled into the wrong forum by accident, I thought this was an Xbox1 forum and thread. My mistake sorry.
Oh, you seem to "stumble" into the wrong forums quite a lot, Yossarian. No matter. It would be a poorer place...without you.

How do you listen to music on PS4 then ? If I t doesn;t have MP3 support then I doubt it has FLAC support and with no Audio disc or streaming support . What is left ? WMA?

Yeah. I do not want that. So no music for me on PS4. Lame.

Does the Xbox one support MP3's and/or streaming from PC ?

Streaming from PC, no. I believe I remember reading there won't be a Windows Media extension. Penello stated above you can listen to your own MP3's. I tweeted Xbox Support to get confirmation. They're good at getting back to people.

No streaming sucks. Not even sure why it isn't there. The OS uses a Windows 7/8 kernel, right ?, but good news on the MP3 front. Looks like my 90's dance Forza soundtrack can continue

Maybe trying to push XBox Music? Who knows it might even be free like it is on W8 PC/Tablet/Laptops with the odd 10 second ad?

You can still make playlists from and so on as a free member.

Actually, you can sync your music with Xbox Music and play the music there. And if you don't do that, it's free for streaming (with ads though if you do not pay) and library is robust. Of course it's not as good as streaming from PC, but I just looove Xbox Music.

Negative points for Sony for pulling that BS card. I don't care for their 'whatever you call it' music program and neither for Xbox Music. I have my own collection and it's pretty big. I'd love to be able to stream it to the X1. If MS decides not to support it then maybe just maybe they will change their decision after a while if people complain about that missing feature... Hopefully but if not then oh well. I will be a sad panda.. :(

Starting at 49:20 you can see how the new system works

I tried it out yesterday on my windows 8.1 laptop and it was pretty cool, It currently works with 360
They are getting away from the whole media center extender and making it work more seamlessly on windows 8.

He specifically says Xbox one in this presentation so I do believe we will still have streaming videos and music from our laptops/pc's to the ONE

Cool video, thanks for sharing. I like how you can live stream from a Windows 8.1 PC directly to the Xbox One, similarly how apple does with apple tv and an ipad.

I am just going to be crazy and just play games on my Xbox One and PS4. I know that sounds crazy, but I am a crazy guy!

But playing games with a custom soundtrack and not needing another device on is brilliant and has been since the original XBox did it. Would be silly for MS to get rid of that.
For instance most racing games have poor to average soundtracks.

Ya, I guess. I have never been one to ever change the music while playing a game though. For me, it means nothing to lose that ability.

I would LOVE to see a Spotify app on X1. I don't think that'll happen though
