You have to give your companion ammo for the weapon you give them too? Damn, that's why they always revert back to their default weapons.

Yes. Something I found out after some reading, after over 60 hours into the game.

One of my biggest complain about the game, except some bad glitches and bugs, is that a lot of thing is not properly explained, especially the settlement, and u often have to dig through Internet to find the info, like how to assign tasks and send someone to another settlement, or create a supply line. Nope of these are explained or in the tool tips. Also , no indication where your companion are after you dismiss them, so most people I presume just send them all to santuary or
Their go-to settlement.

Also you have no idea what task you have a sign to who. The game feel rushed, particularly the settlement part. It feel like a last minute shoehorn in feature to wow minecraft, builder type gamers money.

Thankfully we live in Internet age.

While I agree that the Settlement aspect may have been a bit rushed, it hasn't stopped me from spending a considerable amount of time playing around with it. I hope they will build upon what's already available through updates. Adding more decoration items (posters, floor coverings, etc.), letting us place s*** where we want to (rather than only if it's highlighted in green), fixing the problem with items phasing through shelves, and giving us the ability to "glue" items down would be a hell of a place to start.

I just bought the game since it was on sale for $49 on steam. Hopefully, it's good. I like open world games, but have never played a Fallout game. I figure I will like it.

I actually came to like how it didn't explain stuff to you, made me figure things out for myself which is a rarity in games these days. I equipped my guards with cage armor and the farmers just in normal clothing so it's kind of easier to know what they are assigned to.

I haven't used many companions but when I used piper when I dismissed her it gave me a choice of which settlement to go to? Otherwise she would go back to puplik occurrences.

Man I keep running out of wood and steel I have cleared out most of the settlements of their scraps and still keep running out, it would be cool if there was a market so you could trade like a certain amount of adhesive for some wood, steel etc. Actually does anyone know where to buy shipments of wood?

Female settler who runs Abernathy Farm, Supervisor Green (Robot) at Greygarden and Moe (Baseball guy) who sells swatters at Daimond City.

So I was out exploring when I got notification that The Castle was under attack. I had never been raided before, so I was excited to see how my defenses held up. I fast traveled back to the castle to find 3 settlers had taken it upon themselves to suit up in 2 of my X-01s and the Atom Cats Power Armor. Needless to say, not a single Mutant made it 5 feet inside the main entrance.

Now, I thought that was cool as all hell until I couldn't get my settlers back out of my Power Armor suits. I tried talking to them but just got the same dialog choices over and over again. I also tried pick pocketing the Fusion Cores but kept getting busted. So what I learned was...........If you ever get settlers that decide to take your Power Armor out for a cruise, just find a bed and sleep until 1am or so. They'll leave the PA behind to go sleep. lol

I found a couple old settlements to clear out so that was good except I reached my settlement size now which really sucks as I just had the lights to put up and some decorating. Might have to trim a few layers off that ridiculous treehouse.

Dude not even joking Cait stole my suit of power armor. I was so pissed I couldn't get her out of it I damn dropped a mini nuke on her a$$ and she went down for a bit then walked it off like she got stung by a mosquito.
I can't get her out of the damn thing and it is irritating me!!

There is a glitch in which you can reduce the settlement size bar so you can continue building. I used it on The Castle, used almost 2 bars now. I've read of people using 3 bars worth of items but I don't think I'd go that far in fear of it crashing my game.

There are mods that increase settlement size and some other Cary stuff like build things that are forbidden, if you play on pc, you could give it a try.

Just got the game on x1. Already crashed during character creation :( Is this expected or should I reinstall? I bought digitally so redownloading would take a long time.

You guys leaving fusion cores in your suits or with your companions?

I've only encountered a couple crashes so far, and I'm prolly 60 hrs in. I think the more individual saves you have the more likely to get crashes.

I went back in and all seems fine. Just a little disturbing to crash right off the bat. Was just browsing through faces and literally just started the game.
I guess save often is key. I'm really impressed with the visuals and the ambiance in the game.

Definitely save often!

I have a permanent courrupted save file when I go to continue, might of been from when I left my console on instant on mode because it had like 25 days or something play time.

Oh damn that would be amazing! I'm assuming that's PC only? So many ideas in my head but just no damn room, and I can't be bothered with other settlements now.

Yeah unfortunately my situation doesn't really allow a PC in my life atm but all I can hope for is that some of these mods make their way to consoles.

On another note I think it would be cool if they added a horde like mode and you have to defend your chosen settlement against attackers, I've only defended my good settlement once and my missile turrets took care of them before I could get a chance

Nope. I did it on Xbox One.

Step 1: Clear out all weapons in your inventory. Now pick up 12 weapons that you won't mind if you lose them. I use sniper rifles as they're pretty easy to spot. I'd suggest not using pistols.

Step 2: Go to your workbench. Transfer the 12 weapons to the workbench and then transfer them back into your inventory.

Step 3: Now drop the 12 weapons on the ground, preferably in a spot where they will be easy to see while on the ground because when you drop them they kinda go everywhere.

Step 4: Leave the weapons on the ground and enter Workshop Mode. Highlight a weapon and press the B button to store the weapon in the work bench. Each time you store a weapon you should see the size bar go down a little bit.

Step 5: Go back to the Workbench, transfer the weapons back into your inventory and repeat Steps 3, 4, and 5 as many times as you wish.

What is the settlement size bar? Is it the max size (in number of items) you can use in the construction of your settlement? I assume it's the bar too right in workshop mode?

So, I'm still very early on. Do I really need to do much with my settlement at sanctuary? I built some beds for an easy quest. Not that I like hand holding tutorials, but it would be nice if they actually explained some of this.

Also is there any way to determine what "level" something is before I attack it? I run into animals that have a ton of HP.

Still though I am loving the game. I usually get bored of RPGs long before the end, and that may happen with this, but so far this is good fun.

You don't have to do much to Sanctuary in the beginning. I'm not sure there is a way to tell what lvl enemies are.

You can tell if an enemy outranks you by a good deal if it has a skull icon at the end of its name. Legendary enemies which are tough, but drop legendary gear, have a star at the end of their name.

The level 3 Perception perk "Awareness" will allow you to see the enemy level as well as their resistances when viewing the enemy through V.A.T.S

Seriously, what's the point in leveling up, Bethesda, if the enemy AI level up with you? In fact, at level 65, p*** ant raiders with no skull next to their name are harder to kill, even when I'm in power armor than at level ten. In fact, I'm less vulnerable out of power armor than in it , now. Did some perk I opted for change the dynamic or was it something in that patch you forced on us? It's frustrating when some punk dressed like one of the Village People with a baseball bat can can take ten explosive shotgun blasts to the face to kill, and completely wreck a maxed out suit of the game's best armor. Since the patch, pop ups are the rule not the exception with weird glitches more frequent such as dead animals hanging from trees or in mid air, and cloud puff after images when using jumpjets. You can fix that one by exiting and re-entering your armor.

What difficulty are you playing on? I played on normal and never had much trouble killing anything. It's always going to be hard if you're on a harder difficulty. That's just how RPGs play. Maybe games are just easy for me though after playing the Souls series, lol.

I think the level 1 awareness shows you the level and how much armor they have which is very handy and the upgrades must show the resistances.

I cranked it from normal to very hard and suddenly my weapons seemed like pieces of crap, the best guns I can get and all the upgrades you can do and a couple perks for rifle damage etc. And I was struggling to kill a few lower level raiders, I find hard is the sweet spot, In normal I was just casually walking around looting bodies while still been shot at.

Also if anyone is interested, the ballistic weave I was talking about earlier only takes up about 5 inventory room with your outfit and hat and has 220 armor and 220 energy resistance. Only downside is that it's very limited in what you can use for the weave so it's hard to find a good look for your character.

Like New Vegas, the enemy AI doesn't level up with you. Here's a map highlighting areas of difficulty.

After my first 10 hours I took the difficulty up to Survival and haven't looked back. It was difficult at first, but after I learned what I could and couldn't get away with and found some better weapons/perks it was like I was playing on Normal again.
I think I'm level 47 or so right now and if i get the drop on the enemy it's almost always a one shot kill......Deathclaws and Sentrybots being the exception. I like to play stealth characters so I've got all 3 ranks of the Ninja which gives me a sneak attack that does 3.5x damage. I've also maxed the Rifleman perk. On top of that, my go to weapon right now is a Legendary Instigating Hunting Rifle that does an extra 50% damage if the target is at full health.
