Does it just turn enemies into bullet sponges on higher difficulties or does it actually get harder?
It turns enemies into bullet sponges while making you the opposite. Pretty lame if you asked me, but this is pretty much typical game design these day.

If you expect enemies to be smarter, more aggressive, find cover and regroup and etc at higher difficulties, we'll don't.

Having said that, I play on normal( as this is my first fallout game) & it's too easy now. I can one/ 2 shot a legendary super mutant.

That's probably my biggest gripe with the game. The AI seems downright dumb at times. It seems easy to get them stuck somewhere and just shoot them. I guess the game is more RPG than FPS in that regard.

Finally finished the main story yesterday and today. Multiple times to see the different endings and get the achievements. Just need to get a couple more straggler achievements then I'll be done for a while. Not going to 1000/1000 it now, but will get close.

Which is why I use a mod that evens the playing field, but increases the AI's aggressiveness in combat. It's a godsend. It's too bad they don't allow these mods to be on console just yet.

What kinds of mods are they going to allow? I'd think it'd just be maps.

I'm looking forward to which mods they bring to consoles, I already plan on keeping this game and buying the DLC for it so any mods for me are a bonus on top of that.

Was feeling pretty confident about facing my first Courser and got absolutely owned, his gun kicked my ass, oh well time to go back and get my X-01 and Fat Man.

Remember the Macho Man Randy Savage mod for Skyrim?

The modder is back and released one for Fallout 4. lol

Okay, like I said I picked up the game a few days ago. After spending quite a few hours playing, here are my impressions so far.

I'm carrying too much to be able to post...hold on...

*drops empty paint bucket*

There, that's better. Now, onto the review. Okay, so this is actually my first Fallout game. I'm not sure why I never got into it before. I guess it's one of those games that just always had bad timing or just wasn't catching my attention.

I must say, I'm loving it so far. It could be better of course, but it is very addictive. I really like the setting. I find the world interesting and like the concept.

It's like a jack of all trades game. Part RPG building a character. Part strategy building up settlements. Ever-so-small part military sim with upgrading weapons and sneaking around looking for headshots or getting into a good position.

Part of my problem with RPG games is wanting to start over and try new things. I have two characters going. The first was a stealth sniper build who was very weak health wise, and the second is more of a stealth melee who is very tough health wise.

The game is very hard to put down. I spent several hours just building up the settlement at Sanctuary. I love RTS and "building" type games, so this is no surprise. I also like exploring and looting everything I can find.

The combat is fun. I always seem to end up with stealth characters. I don't know, running and gunning just seems so boring, though I may make one eventually.

I wasn't sure what to think about V.A.T.S at first, but it is fun to play with. It doesn't always seem accurate though. Sometimes the damage is not what it promised, or it tells me I have a clear shot when I end up hitting a wall or something. Other than that it is cool. I don't always use it, but it's nice for a change and gives the game a bit of a turn-based feel.

I'm sooo glad they got rid of regenerating health. It had no business being in Skyrim. At least now, you have to take a perk to get it.

I'm not crazy about having a family. My characters are usually loners. Having a wife and son doesn't really sit well with my character. I'm just not much of a family guy. So, it makes it feel less like a character I made, and more that I'm playing a predetermined character. I haven't even bothered taking companions with me that much. I'd rather just do it myself.

The conversation system is cool, but I don't always feel like it says what I expected. Talking to some characters seems to take a while if they are busy since we have to wait for them to stand up or whatnot, but that's a minor complaint.

I will say that this game is a bit buggy. I've had merchant mules on my roof and in my bedroom, characters sitting in thin air, and crashes galore. At one point my guy glitched completely and said he was crippled even though he wasn't. This ruined the third person camera completely (not that I use it much), but more importantly, ruined my aim. I had to throw a molotav cocktail at myself and then heal to fix it.

The perk system is cool, though I'm not always crazy about having to wait until certain levels to take a perk. This can mean memorizing where a master safe is for later or not being able to concentrate as much on a certain skill. I can understand some of it was for balance, but I'm not sure what to think yet. I often end up saving perks until I need them or can do a good test to see if I like them.

I play on normal difficulty. Honestly, survival mode sounded cool, but then I heard it turned enemies into bullet sponges. Ugh. I hate having to shoot people in the head a hundred times. I was hoping it would be more like the hardcore mode from New Vegas. Oh well. I won't be using it, so that's disappointing.

I haven't done that much of the story yet. I'm not big on story in Bethesda games. I made it to Diamond City and did a few missions, but mostly I've been doing side quests.

I'm playing the PC version with an Xbox 1 controller.

Anyway, I'm sure there's more that I forgot to say, but that's good enough.

Godsmack play Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Content-wise is much better. That's not to say Fallout 4 is bad. I feel the previous titles offered much more. That being said, Charisma in Fallout 4 matters the most. Stealth? Unless you enjoy being only 5 feet in front of the AI and not being detected, you are wasting your time.

This guy...follow his tips.

I'll have a look at that article soon.

Anyway, I was thinking about buying Fallout 3 or New Vegas recently, but didn't get motivated enough. Fallout 3 doesn't work out of the box on Win 7, so I'd have to fix that. New Vegas is supposed to work fine, but the setting is a bit meh to me. I may give them a shot, but really haven't decided yet.

IMO, New Vegas is the best by far. A lot of content and nothing simplified.

Fallout 3 should work on win7 with no issues. It was win7 where I played it. Just installed the game, steam patched it, and it ran without issues.
If I remember correctly, it wasn't "supported" under Win7, but not that it didn't work on Win7.

Fallout 3 and Vegas are indeed awesome. I personally put FO3 before FO4. FO4 is nice, but the older ones are better.

Cool, I saw the warning on the Steam page and read a few comments about it not working or needed fixes, so it worried me. I may go ahead and check it out at some point then.

There is one major bug that ,made Preston unselectable as companion. I have it. I have bother to resolve it. Its impossible for console at the moment, but I can do so on PC. But I have too many companions to get max affiliation to bother with him so far.

Running with Curie with face mod so far. I do not know why so many female characters has to look so manly.

So I started a supply line between The Castle and Jamaica Plains. So while I'm in Jamaica Plains I should be able to access the building materials I have stored at The Castle, correct? If so, it's not working. Is there something I'm missing?

I'm really loving this game, but DAMN, it needs some fixing!

Trying to get Ann Hargrave (level 4 Clothing vendor) to work at my settlement but every time she starts her trek to The Castle she gets stuck trying to cross the drawbridge (which is in the "up" position) next to the WRVR Broadcast Station and refuses to go any other way.

They badly need to fix settlement management. Settlers need real names and there needs to be some menu that tells what everyone's job is.

By right you should. Best is store all in one settlement (like Sanctuary) & store all junk there, & create supply lines that link them together.

I've been dressing my settlers in distinct clothing so I know who's doing what. Poly-Combat armor, Patrolman glasses and a Sea Captain's hat for the people running my mortars, Yellow Flight Helmets for settlers tending crops, etc. etc. makes it much easier to know who's doing what.

That's smart and hilarious.

I think they have to have made it to the target settlement once before you have access to the materials. And also you only have access to build, you won't be able to like take the wood from sanctuary from another settlement, its kinda stupid.
