By the way, what is this forum's consensus on Fallout 4? Better than 3? Better than Vegas? About the same?
Haven't played F4 in ages. But as a whole it's the best one. It's just that it's more like Fallout 3.5. Solid game, but not exactly brimming with new gameplay.

The biggest gameplay changes is the mech suit and crafting your own settlement. But if a gamer doesn't care about these much, then the core game will feel even more similar to F3.

Here is a mod preview on Xbox. They run through the layout and several of the mods. They mention there will be a 2 gig limit.

Well, that's good. (There's a question mark in the title, but the answer is yes.) Best wait for the actual patch, though -- sounds a little cumbersome to fix it yourself at the moment (requiring uninstalling and reinstalling everything).

Anyone here using mods? ppl on gaf are acting like they are a godsend for the game.

Pretty interesting they'd have so many issues there but not other places.

Yeah, the mod situation isn't looking good on PS4. Not sure whether it's Bethesda's usual incompetence with Sony hardware or Sony's proprietary this and that. Probably more the latter, from what I've heard.

Does the base game on PS4 suffer? Did anyone here pick it up for PS4? I'm considering it, but I don't want a PS3-type Skyrim experience. Did Bethesda do ok with the base game?

The game runs fine on ps4 outside of mods. Nothing like skyrim.

I tried telling you they don't care about PlayStation for some reason, lol. Doesn't matter which console is more popular, they put more effort into Xbox versions for whatever reason even though all versions are buggy. I'll laugh if the Skyrim remaster runs worse on PS4 than it did on PS3.

Well, it's clear Bethesda has a closer working relationship with MS; that dates back to my avatar. But I think it's nonsense to say "they don't care about PlayStation." First of all, that would be extremely stupid of them to "not care" about customer base twice the size of Xbox's. They aren't morons. Second, if they "don't care about PS," then why does the base game run fine? Why isn't it a trainwreck like Skyrim? (A: because Skyrim's problems were related to the weird cell PS3 architecture, not to disinterest, and the cell is gone now with the PS4).

As for the mod situation, again it's not because they "don't care about PS," but rather because Sony puts up roadblocks to what Bethesda wants to do (which MS doesn't) -- I'm talking about the weird, idiosyncratic ways their online architecture is set up, and the way they approve and integrate these sorts of external game mods. I'm guessing that Sony has never done this before, so it's a mess to work through for the first time, and Bethesda is having all kinds of trouble dealing with how Sony operates in this area.

"KNOWN ISSUES WITH PS4 MODS

PC textures are used. Memory and performance issues may occur. We are working with Sony on optimal texture exporting support in a future update.

Sound files are currently not supported. PS4 sound format is a proprietary format. We are working with Sony on sound file processing support in a future update.

PS4 Mod Storage limit is approximately 900 MB at present. Please do not upload mods larger than 900 MB. We are working with Sony to increase this limit

Finally started into Fallout 4. Played a couple of hours. It certainly looks a lot better than Fallout 3 did, although it's still that same old hoary Bethesda game engine underneath. I will probably avoid all the crafting and building, because I already know the game is going to be a tremendous time-sink, and I don't want to add too much to that. I've never been all that into crafting and building stuff anyhow. I just like wandering around, exploring.

I found the building/crafting to be great fun, so don't cut yourself off from it yet!

Its pretty fun getting a notice telling you to defend your settlement, then rushing over to kill 20 mutants...

Or it was the first 20 times.

Played to Level 7 or so, ended up quitting. When I'd log off, I'd feel sort of tense and irritated at myself for having spent my time on it. It feels like more of the same to me. More of the same enemies. More of the same game systems (scrounging through burned-out buildings for supplies, lots of time spent fiddling with menu screens and comparing items, etc.) ... meh. I think I'm just tired of the Fallout universe. It doesn't stoke my imagination anymore. It did the first game (Fallout 3, I mean), but it doesn't anymore. I can't see myself spending 100 to 200 hours doing this.

Maybe after Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Skyrim, I'm just tired of the Bethesda open world formula. Surprised to hear myself say that. There was a time when I would've said Bethesda is my favorite developer. Maybe I need to take the picture of Todd Howard off my locker. Or maybe my feelings are just specific to Fallout. I don't know.

Andy,

I felt FO4 started slower than FO3 and overall I still think 3 was the better game. 4 does get better though but by all means leave Preston behind and trek forward in the story.

I sold the game back yesterday ($14 at Gamestop, woo hoo), so I can't do that.

I did move a little beyond Preston, but the game just didn't interest me. It wasn't that the story was too slow, really. I knew it would ramp up and introduce some new factions and locations. But I also knew the basic elements of the game -- the exploration, the world itself, the leveling up, most of the enemies, the basic mechanics -- were going to be the same as they were in Fallout 3. I just didn't feel like doing that all over again.

I had the same feeling about New Vegas, actually. That was years ago. I stopped playing Vegas after about 10-20 hours, because it just felt like more of the same. At the time, I thought maybe I had tried to play it too close to finishing Fallout 3. So, I tried again later. Same thing. And now, same thing with Fallout 4.

I guess I just don't find the world of Fallout interesting enough to spend more than 200 hours in. Lately, I've had a real aversion to games that take an inordinate amount of time, so that may be part of it, too.

I was totally burnt out on Bethesda games for about 6 months. I resumed my playthrough of this on PC with about 40 mods and now I'm enjoying it again.

Aw Andy, that sucks. It's funny because i have a couple real life friends who do nothing but rave about Fallout 4. My friends and I have all completed it, but i haven't touched any of the DLC yet. My buddy was like, "Did you play more Fallout yet?" I was like nah, i would but there's so many other games to play. Kinda crazy how you can get hooked on one game for so long. They still play it even after completing the DLC. It's like, what else is there to really do? I guess what they say is true, different strokes for different folks.
