Feminist Frequency doesn't like Witcher 3

Oh women. Can't live with them, can't live without them. Can't wait until Hillary becomes president. Women don't have enough rights already. Handing out restraining orders like candy isn't enough.

I agree that the language used does add something to the world and atmosphere that they have for the fame, but I also think that as a developer, if you go ahead with including stuff that could be offensive, you need to be able to/expect some backlash from overly sensitive groups.

I think she was grasping at straws for a story here, and needed a scapegoat for a new rant.

But still, its her prerogative to speak out. I dare say it wont be the last time someone uses an ill-informed stance for debate.

I think everybody always expects backlash. That isn;t really the issue at hand though. It is the misrepresentation of the complaint.

A quote just came to mind, "If it is not right do not do it, if it is not true do not say it." Her comments here are not truthful. This also brings me to another quote, Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth." in other words, she is just seeing what she wants to see.

Both those are Marcus Aurelius quotes, just incase somebody wondered

There is a Ciri scene in the game where she is to go to a sauna, the game constantly gives you option to get her naked. That right there is unnecessary. You do not need to be naked in a sauna.

That is far more convincing as a feminist complaint.

As a request, can people put Spoiler tag if related to any plot? That would be much appreciated. Thanks..

From what I've seen in this thread, she isn't really against Witcher 3, as so much was annoyed by a couple things. Seems like an over reaction to what's being labeled as over reaction.

thing is with feminists you can't take them seriously. I can't stop hearing about the greatness of Caitlyn Jenner because she is removing her penis. If you're a fan of Game of Thrones there was a big uproar about the Sansa episode with Bolton where she was raped. The internet exploded with GOT going too far. There wasn't a peep from anyone when Bolton cuts Reek's member off and mails it to his father. So as long as men are suffering or wanting to become anything but a man it is celebrated?

Valar morghulis.

Slightly un-related, but in my city, feminists have united for a yearly event called 'The Slut Walk'. 1000's of women dress up provocatively and march through the cbd, to prove that "Women don't 'ask' to be raped. No matter what they wear"

I think its great to embrace your inner slut. Viva le sexual revolution!

That seems a bit stupid. Sure, woman do not ask to be raped. However, it is not just woman who dress provocatively that get raped. Plus, woman should know by now that if you dress a certain way, you will attract undesired attention. Is it right, no, but being ignorant to the world you live in is just stupid. That ignorance is likely where the comment of "she is asked for it" comes from.

Dressing provocatively logically will elicit a provocative response.

It's not stupid. You are allowed to be sexy without being harassed. Women shouldn't have to live in fear when they choose to be confident in their appearance, knowing that any sex appeal will attract unwarranted, unwanted attention. Men know the difference between wanted and unwanted. Women shouldn't have to know they can't dress confidently. Men should have to know that "no" is "no." I'm sure you'd feel exactly the same if a man refused to leave you alone until he received sexual favors.

Pretty sure I just said it isn't right *looks back over post* yep, I definitely said that.

Hehe yeah. The thing is though, cultural differences dictate what is considered provocative...

"That woman is exposing her hair! What a slut!"

A big part of their stance is, rather than teach our women to dress conservatively, why not teach everyone to not rape/sexually objectify.

Now bring me my naked men. As long as they all have six-packs and are underwear models.

Sorry, but everybody in a civilized country already knows not to rape. People who rape, do so knowing it is wrong.

Also, what does provocative mean? Like Obscene Jester said, dressing provocatively will illicit an appropriate response. Woman who dress provocatively do so knowing full well what its affect will be.

I'm pretty sure you also said the march is stupid because woman should expect unwarranted sexual harassment for the way they dress.

If an NFL team stripped down to boxer briefs and sandals, and decided to walk down the street with Motley Crue playing in the background. They would likely be sexually harassed as well.

That isn't what I said, or at least, that isn't what I meant.

Dressing provocatively is done intentionally to provoke sexual attention. You can not dress in such a way and then claim the response was unwarranted. Having said that, it doesn't mean these woman are being asked to be raped either. but they are seeking that male sexual attention. Maybe for actual sex or maybe for self esteem issues.

Like I said, dressing one way and expecting the opposite response to which the physical appearance provokes is just plain ignorance.

As for the march, it is stupid because they dress in the manner that provokes sexual attention. All that does is exacerbate the issue, not fix it. Plus, the whole provocative dressing issue is only part of the "They asked for it" issue.

Yeah the whole asking for it thing is stupid, as you said Menace they are asking for attention and I can't stand when girls who wear extremely short skirts or low cut tops act like they aren't begging for people to notice them when they dress that way but as you also said that doesn't mean that a man has the right to rape her for it. People in general need to stop acting like they don't know how the world works. How you dress doesn't define you as a person but unless people know you, you shouldn't expect them to think anything about you other than what you are putting out there for them to see.

I think there's too much to this issue to actually debate properly.

Wearing a short skirt or a skimpy top isn't necessarily the only thing that is provocative in the world. Travel a bit, and you'll see the culture shock from places.

In Australia at the moment, our major cities are dealing with issues of cultural ghettos for the first time, and now wearing a normal skirt and a blouse is considered offensive in parts. Some of them have hairdressers with the windows blacked out, so no man can see people without a hijab on.

And its great that there are opportunities for these cultures to flourish.

But in saying that, its already proven, that there is no goto of what is and isn't offensive. I've been refused entry into countries until I put on long sleeve shorts that covered me/my tattoos.

As someone who gets a lot of s*** yelled at me from people driving by, I've embraced most of it, because the alternative is actually draining. Taking offense is too much work for me.

But I'm willing to bet, if you scream "c***" at someone as they're walking up the street, people around you are going to take offense, even if they aren't the victim. :p

You are just unnecessarily complicating the discussion. Yes, it is multi-faceted and multi-cultural issue. The issue addressed here though is very much rooted in the majority based western view of provocative.

The issue will never be discussed properly until woman realize they are half the problem.

There is a difference between someone whistling or telling you you are sexy because you dressed as so and someone just being an a****** and constantly badgering someone and asking if they can screw you in the ass. This is a very lopsided problem women exclusively have to deal with. The best way to understand this is to go to a gay bar dressed like a handsome young man and see how quickly you get fed up with the harassment and ass-slapping.

yeah if your wearing a low cut short with your tits out and a short dress with your ass out men are going to look what f***ing shock. if I wilk around with no shirt with my six pack abs and shorts so tight my dick outline is seen women are going to look I mean no s***.

PS. I really don't have six pack abs and I'd have to be wearing micro tight shorts to see the outline of my penis :(

Most places that think that way are either overly religious or somewhat primitive, at least in their social views. Then again those two things kind of go hand in hand a lot of the time. It's one thing to have a belief in a higher power, it's another to try to make others live by the belief the religious people have chosen to follow.

What happens is alot of women get mad when the 'wrong' people notice them when they dress provocatively.
A la Billy Bob and the rest of the inbred children under the stairs start foaming at the mouth.

Usually from what I have seen if it is some attractive guy women don't usually mind the attention. Fact is if you dress like a corner girl you get backwater attention in addition. However does not condone rape. Some guys need to control their urges. That is the problem.

I understand the thinking, but at the same time, people need to be realistic. Want/not wanted & expection.

If I put my phone on a table & then order my drink, I do not ask for my phone to be stolen, but I risk higher chance of it being stolen. If you left your bicycle unlock on a street, you are not hoping it to tbe stolen, but you are triggering the badside of some people, that see the opportunity to steal it.

You and I will obviosuly not steal the phone or bike, but there are people that will, & by having a campign that tell people that should be able to dress anyway they wanted , doesn't change much. Its good & all, but people need to be realistic & know the risk, as some people just do not have self control.

People can campaign for everythiung they wanted, as long as they know the difference between ideals & real life.
