Cool, Square is going to release a patch to improve Performance Mode. My guess is they had to release on the stated date which didn't give them time to properly optimize. But at least its getting improved at some point.

I've put playing this game on hold for now. I'm super addicted to Helldivers 2 and then we get Rise of Ronan later this month. The backlog just keeps getting larger.

That boss music in chapter 2 hit every spot, sooo damn good. I swear every OST piece in this game is like listening to a symphony orchestra playing for you the whole time.

So did they split FF7 into two parts and added heaps of extra tidbits for remake/rebirth?

There is going to be a third part and yeah basically filled out the story and lore even more than the original.

The remakes follow the story relatively closely but adds some changes here and there where it feels like a completely new game to play through as it literally takes at least 3x the amount of time to beat the whole trilogy now. What every remake or reimagine should be like.

For example:

What a dumpster fire of a chapter. All I will say regarding that s*** show.

Sounds like the trilogy is locked up

“Final Fantasy VII Rebirth” has released to widespread critical acclaim, in large part due to its stunning seamless fantasy world, the kind rarely seen in the medium outside of the biggest games.
This would not have been possible if “Rebirth” was planned as a multiplatform project, said Final Fantasy franchise producer Yoshinori Kitase. Its development exclusively for the PlayStation 5 made it easier for the team to focus on building a world with diverse geography, indoor and outdoor areas populated with activities, characters friendly and hostile, all seamlessly represented with no “loading screen” interruptions. Developing games for multiple platforms, by contrast, usually creates more work that focuses on porting rather than iterating on a game’s design.

“Had it not been on a single platform, the world map would not be seamless, and game design may have had to regress significantly,” Kitase told The Washington Post in an interview, through an interpreter. Kitase is the director of the original “Final Fantasy VII” from 1997, as well as many classic projects from publisher and developer Square Enix.

Securing the “Final Fantasy VII” trilogy as a console exclusive is a feather in the PlayStation cap. It’s part of recognizing the original game’s importance as a defining game for the PlayStation experience, said Christian Svensson, vice president of second- and third-party content ventures and strategic initiatives at Sony Interactive Entertainment.

  • There are masked loading screens
  • A lot of black loading screens
  • A lot of pausing before the scene loads
  • The resolution isn't very good
  • The performance isn't very good
It's only 3 month PS5 exclusive. It would be a permanent exclusive if they weren't developing it for other platforms at some point.

Don't believe the hype.

Svensson said console exclusivity was mutually desired when the “Remake” project fired up. The schedule for PlayStation’s third-party titles is all the more important this year after Sony executive Hiroki Totoki said the PlayStation 5 will see no major titles from its first-party studios until 2025.

Straight from their second and third party director so I believe the exclusivity meant PC timed for later and sounds like something both parties wanted.

Which confirms, not a single platform. Also, Xbox confirmed they have an all new relationship with Square for FF games and to see FF games coming to Xbox going forward.

My post stands, there isn't a "single platform" decision here and the game shows that it's not a single platform looker or performer.

My initial post was more about console exclusivity meaning the developers wanted to find a single console place where they could be well supported and flourish and not compromise on game design so in that sense, Sony seemed to fit what they were looking for the most plus their long time established relationship and mutual interests.

With entry level PC's still being supported, that doesn't hold a candle. And after playing over half way through the game, the game seems compromised.

Entry level specs are being pushed up a lot more these days with newer titles , something you can't do with fixed console hardware.

Compromised in what sense ? You talking about the performance resolution? That's the only thing that came to mind and it seems they are hard at work trying to optimize it further.

Having said that, the game is literally several generations ahead of what the OG game was and for me and many others that have played the crap out of it, that original game, despite its flaws, provided countless hours of fun and entertainment. And Rebirth is so much more well advanced in terms of combat gameplay, open world mechanics, story lore and world building, graphics etc. yet we have people who want to focus on miniscule details than looking at the bigger picture. Not saying you but I find many gamers these days focus on the negative more than positive . What happened to just enjoying the game that is already miles ahead of what games in the past have been?

To me, Rebirth and FF16 is a step forward in the right direction for this mainline franchise IP in their respective regards . For sure they have flaws but there is no perfect game but these two have been super enjoyable for me this gen.

Reading the tea leaves, I think ff7 remake trilogy will come to xbox AFTER the series has completed. Maybe for the next gen xbox at this point. FF16 will show up on xbox this gen, LATE this gen but late. The PC ports for Rebirth and FF16 will probably be announced this year with release sometime next year.

But its coming to PC, so that clearly isn't true.

Square Enix is talking about not having to worry about porting or anything like that and developing for the PS5 only which enabled them to complete the second part in just 4 years. They don't have to worry about porting to PC until after the console release.
