This update addresses the following:

  • Addresses SmartGlass issues for some users when coming in and out of connected standby
  • Addresses multiplayer issues for some users when re-joining games
  • Addresses issues with inconsistent notifications for some users
  • Addresses dashboard performance for some users
  • Offers improvements for Xbox One’s TV, system update, and content update services for scaling over time
  • Updated wireless networking driver to improve connectivity issues for some users

A. If you are using the Xbox One “Instant On” (the low power state that allows you to instantly power up your console by saying “Xbox On”), your console automatically checks for updates when it you turn it off. Once we make the update available (on Tuesday, December 10th, 5:00 PM PT) this means the following will happen:
  • Your console will automatically download the update after you turn it off. Once the update has been downloaded in the background, your console will power completely down. Please note: You will need to manually power your console back on after the update has been downloaded. Because the update will power your console completely down, the “Xbox On” voice command won’t be available until after the update is fully installed.
  • When you turn the console on you’ll see the update being applied. After that, your Xbox One will reboot. You’ll know the update is installing when you see the Xbox logo on the green background (like at the top of this post.) This can take anywhere from 2-5 minutes. Once the update has finished installing, you’ll boot to the Home screen and you’re all set.
  • Don’t worry, if you are out of town for the holidays, you console also does regular checks for updates and will download it in the background even if you have not used you Xbox One in a couple of days.
B. If you are not using the Xbox One “Instant On” feature, you will be required to download and apply this update after Thursday, December 12th at 4:00 PM PT.

We’ve got quite a few updates planned for the next year based on the community feedback we’ve been seeing, and I’ll have details on those in the future.

Party chat is going to take a while I believe. They would have to overhaul a bunch of stuff.

On a side note: I used party with my brother over the weekend and it worked fine.

I heard that to make party chat work you have to start it before loading the game.

What's wrong with party chat anyway?

And is the voice quality really a step up over the 360's?

Would like more information about this one:
  • Offers improvements for Xbox One’s TV, system update, and content update services for scaling over time

Minor update in my opinion. When they fix the party chat, notifications and give a battery indicator, I'll be happy.

Dude, you expect them to fix all that in less than 3 weeks? This was a hotfix and nothing more, we will get a steady stream of updates so we should be happy about that.

Nice to see then fixing problems quickly. And lol to those who are complaining about this. Do you guys think every issue is a quick fix? Wouldn't you want them to make sure that what they do fix actually fixes the issue and doesn't create a bigger one. I guess you can't make everyone happy.

Now that you mention it, I can say that the audio quality through the headset and the kinect is better than quality of the x12 on the 360.

Thought it would already be downloaded. I have my settings to instant on.

From what Major Nelson's blog post said, the patch was to be released at 5pm PT (which was fifteen minutes after your post). But it says that it'll download it when you power down. I did the power down and back on but I didn't leave it off that long so I didn't get the update yet.

So should this have happened? I've had my X1 in lower power mode all day while at work. Turned it on for the first time just now (9:20 EST) and I see no messages about updates or anything.

If I read the blog correctly and interpret it correctly (big if, I admit), the first time you turn your XB1 off after it has been on after the patch is released, it'll do the background download. [edit to add - assuming you leave it turned off long enough]

Power down as in stand by or turning it off? (Dumb question, but I like to be sure with this beast.)

if ms dominate @ software so well then a lot of these problems shouldn't even be there to begin with. They had at least 5 years to be working on this stuff.
