Already got my letter informing me today that my $500 a month will be cut down $40, I know forty bucks doesn't sound like a lot to many people but when you've had your back against a wall for so long like I have and have 4 mouths in a house to feed (one elderly [77] the other a growing child [10] and two adults) it's a good chunk. Now I know we have people like this:

But most of us are not, most of us would eventually end up robbing others at gun point to get a loaf of bread for our children was it not for the help we're given. If it wasn't for the kindness of local churches and government assistance I would be in a much more dire situation.

Thanks again to those far right of center republicans. You've proven what you're willing to do to us who are in need of help through tough times.

The people who voted this way have no conception of what this means once it gets down to the individual level. It is a small benefit, but one that may save some from hunger. I know that this programs really started as a way to use up surplus farm goods -- but it has become one pillar of support for some.

I cannot even conceive of how they can do this and look at themselves in the mirror. They simply do not care about anyone outside of their circle of influence and money.

It is a necessary evil. The government has its hands full as do the lower class. Sacrifices are necessary and something has to give; something needs to be cut. The path to a better tomorrow is never the easy one nor it is ever easy to know what the right path is. Tough decisions... Tough decisions...

They could always take a pay cut to fill in the gap instead or not spend so much on military, or private jets, fancy dinners, giant hotel suites, repetitive paperwork, $40 hammers, shop around more on contracts, ect. I'm sure there are other ways to go about it then taking food out of people mouths when our nation has such an over abundance we end up tossing out 60% (or probably more) of it.

After further reading, I think I actually like this bill. Finally bills that encourages work ethics and jobs.

The bill, written under the direction of the House majority leader, Eric Cantor, Republican of Virginia, would cut $40 billion from the food stamp program over the next 10 years. It would also require adults between 18 and 50 without minor children to find a job or to enroll in a work-training program in order to receive benefits.

It would also limit the time those recipients could get benefits to three months. Currently, states can extend food stamp benefits past three months for able-bodied people who are working or preparing for work as part of a job-training program.

“This bill makes getting Americans back to work a priority again for our nation’s welfare programs,” House Speaker John A. Boehner said.

Have you ever went through the process? You have to do most of that stuff as it was, it was all in how you worked the system is if you got away with not doing anything. I've done tons of community service, job searches, resume building classes, and the list goes on. All of it was mandatory for me. Others get away without doing it because they know how to work the system, this will be no different. Only the honest jackoff like myself will be screwed in the end.

At first I read this as going from $500 to $40 and I thought wow that's impossible. Still though, I hear ya that $40 can go a long way; everything counts.

$40 for a hammer, that is a good deal in the eyes of our lot. $121 for an energy saving light bulb.

Whoever agrees with breaking the poorer for scraps then ask yourself this "Wonder where all that tax went from that company which folded then restarted under another name".

There are a lot of wrong doers out there like nastyman says but the innocent, the ones that don't try to take advantage of systems seem to get thrown into the same pool because they are in that same statistic.

I'm sorry, don't want to seem rude, but yeah, where are you posting this from? Perhaps drop the internet or spend the time on video game forums looking for work instead?

I'll assuming this isn't a disability case, if so my apologies.

I can see dropping the internet to save money, but the last part of your statement is really a stretch. It's not like you spend every hour of every day looking for work when you don't have one. Job hunting doesn't really work like that. There's a lot of down time just waiting.

And I get that, but most people just drop an app off, or fill it out online and move on. You want a job bad enough you call and go to the places you apply to speak with people, get your face and name out there. In this market jobs aren't going to come to you, you have to go get them.

No. They are not that tough. There are jobs out there. They may not be jobs you want to do, but they are out there.

People have to eat. So it's something I want my taxes to go towards. Especially considering most households that use them have a child in them.

There are other areas that the well off and wealthy use my tax dollars that I'd prefer see cut before SNAP.

Eh. It's universally accepted that 'times are tough'. Most economies have been in recession. There have been huge lay offs, massive increases in personal debt, and housing market crash. So yes. Times are indeed tough.

Right, I am simply saying if you want a job, one is out there for you.

The problem lies in people not wanting to take jobs they think they are too good for. If you mean to tell me in two years not a single retail or food service or landscaping or whatever job in a given area came open, I'd call you a liar.

I have a problem is with your passing generalisation that times are not that tough. That's just wrong. Simple as that.

I stand by my statement, times are not tough enough to where an able bodied person could not find a job of some kind in two years time. If you think otherwise then I can't help that.

For some people though, unemployment could pay more than one of those jobs that people "feel they are too good for".

I'm just talking about people without a job in general, no specific "category".

Ok, I am talking about the people that are one, two or more years into unemployment. I completely understand that some guy making 60k a year that gets laid off is going to use unemployment rather than work at McDs. But once those benefits run out, you have to do what you have to do, pride aside.

Right. Fair enough.

First...you know how much food you can buy at Aldis for $460
second....I see alot of illigal immigrants working...why can't you.
Third......I don't care if you make more money on unemployment...working hard for your money is better for you...period.
Fourth....I'm not going to say what I payed in taxes last year...but it's enough that I don't feel sorry for no person that is healthy and can work.
