Foodstamp Cuts.

Always amazes me how much hate there is for Americans who have it the worst. On top of that they are somehow responsible for the problems of the country…o_O
Them McDonald's employees are running this country into the ground!

Of course people do have personal responsibility, but we are not tigers or jellyfish or whatever kind of animal that lives alone and dies alone.
Humans have only become such a dominant species through co-operation and even altruism. There's such a thing as tough love, but there also needs to be understanding. There are so many factors to consider and so many different situations and permutations of situations, it's mind-boggling.

I saw a guy (not in the US) who had two kids both suffering some some kind of birth defect that caused them to have small brains and generally poor mental functions. His wife left him after the second kid and he spent 20 years caring for his kids who required ongoing care as the same level of infants. He was on unemployment benefit throughout the whole 20 years. How would a guy like that have to deal with benefit cuts? What different choices could he have made where he wouldn't have been financially and socially struggling throughout his adult life?

I'm not saying it's always like that, but there are millions of situations that people are in and reasons why they are collecting benefits. Some of them are sheisty, some aren't, but to just make assumptions about millions of lives based on the few of those you have actually met or observed from a distance (and thus judged prematurely too) is just lazy.

Wow, so many misconceptions...

High taxes decrease the tax base. Lower taxes increase the tax base. You have to lower taxes to increase revenue. We have a crystal clear case of this principal in action right now. Obama care is causing companies to reduce their number of employees and correspondingly the amount of hours people work. Thus lowering the tax base, and ultimately decreasing revenue.

High taxes and lot of regulation cause companies to go underground to avoid paying taxes. Particularly the small mom on pop businesses. The bigger businesses simply leave the country for a country that doesn't charge as much taxes.

It's profit margin that causes those changes, NOT high taxes. Greed needs to be regulated.

"God money's not concerned with the sick amongst the pure.
God money let's go dancing on the backs of the bruised."

I am sick and tired of the smug, smirking jackals on the right. Is it cruel? Is it stupid? Is it heartless? It must be a Republican.

I heard on the radio the other day that there are 47 million Americans on food stamps? Daaammmn. That's more than the entire population of Canada. That's what... 1 in 7 of your population? Crazy.

If you can afford a cell phone, cigarettes, tattoos, high speed internet, cable TV, game consoles, weed ect.............then you don't need tax payer money to provide you food......
People spend so much money on cigarettes, it's sickening.

Liberals....they even blame Detroit on the Republicans.

I don't know which ones worse for America.....the people that abuse the system or the people that make excuses for them.

They both suck.

And while these types of programs are needed they need to be there for the short term and not become a lifestyle like it has for so many.

No one should be buying food with food stamps while standing in line texting on the newest smart phone and driving away in a blinged out ride.

It also should be difficult to get on these programs. More proof required and many more restrictions while on them. And for those that are on it they need to be strictly monitored and quickly cut off when the rules are broken.

To be fair, internet access is easy if you have a local library. I can be on a PC with headphones for 2-3 hours at a library if I wanted to.

I sent all this from my new gold iphone while running on the fastest speed my provider could give using only the latest in technology!

Nastyman!, as a long time member of TXB I wish you good luck and I hope you are able to find a GOOD job in the near future. I know it takes a lot of courage to share something so personal.

Wow, republican radio? lol. And yes, because I have this new fangled Republican radio that let's me see people in line with me at the grocery story texting on smart phones while using food stamps. lol

People on welfare should absolutely try to forgo luxuries. That said, I don't think internet should be considered a luxury and any more than running water or heating.
In this day and age, a job hunter WITHOUT internet access is at a huge disadvantage, not to mention that in many ways people with internet access can often save money in other ways.
A smartphone is becoming a necessity, and also enable people to save money. I spent a lot more money on my phone bill before I got a smartphone. I pretty much never send texts anymore. And I make international"calls" via Skype.
At my company, my supervisor almost always contacts me through a free messaging system (similar to whatsapp).
But no one needs a gold iPhone, there are reasonably priced smartphones out there, too.

Hey now, that's Canada we're talking about. What did you expect?

Some people may have had such "luxury" items before falling on hard times.

Should they sell their smart phone though? That seems short sighted. Devices like that include many Apps that the person might be using. What if they can receive a Text from a job connection?

It would probably also be their organizer/calendar.

Also, I hate to say it but for all we know a government agency helped them get that smart phone for these same reasons. Y'know the same government requiring kids in school to have the latest Tablet gizmo?
