Game Gear Mini...Big Disappointment

It makes sense. A MS branded console is never going to do well in Japan, if they make a deal to have it SEGA branded it would at least attract some SEGA fans. Though some of those would be imported here by people like me lol.

I wonder if they'd change the UI to be SEGA branded/centric, that would probably help make it a more appealing system in Japan.

Branding it as Sega is too weird to me. It’s not like they won’t know what it is just because Sera’s name is on it. I’d much prefer a scenario where they have included all of Sega’s catalog on Xbox, including Saturn and Dreamcast.

That would be cool too..like a genarational catalog. It would be even nicer if all future games would make it to Xbox.

Yeah, this rumor was literally already mentioned in the other SEGA thread, as it's right in the story:

The other announcement ResetEra members speculated on was the Xbox Series X being distributed under the SEGA banner in Japan.

That also would be an incredibly smart move, given how historically Xbox consoles have failed to make much of a sales impact in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Having SEGA branding on the next Xbox could be a great way to boost sales in Japan, especially considering SEGA haven't released a home console since the Dreamcast.

Why do people keep saying MS or Sony should buy sega? Sonic isn't good anymore and I love the yakuza games but they don't sell 10 million copies or anything like that, hell in the US they usually don't break a million. What value would they bring to MS or Sony as a 1st party?

Plus they have their fingers in pies that I doubt either would be overly interested in like toys and arcades

I think people are just looking at it from the console war perspective. Sega is a big name so it seems like a huge get for their team. Even in terms of consoles wars its a head scratcher that people are rooting for these huge companies to gobble everyone up. What does someone who owns these systems get that they didn't already have?

If Microsoft had them they would certainly have to keep releasing at least some of the games on multi platforms. A partnership is plausible but nothing that Microsoft has done up to this point would make you think they would buy someone like that. Zero chance that Sony would.

I don't think people realize how many IPs Sega has. Obviously Sonic and Yakuza, then you have the Total War series, Football Manager series,
Warhammer 40,000 series, Persona series, Endless Legend/Space Series, Valkyria Chronicles series, Sakura Wars series. Those are alot IPs that sell well in Japan and oversees. Plus alot of the IPs are PC centric which could really boost Gamepass for PC. Buying Sega would be an absolute boss more to increase the xbox brand world wide. The only other company I can think of that would provide that kind of brand boost world wide would be Square Enix.

Yeah one of the rumos is the XSX is going to be released under the Sega name in Japan, true or not it's not going to make a difference the people there know what xbox is lol.

Looks like some journalists already have that magazine with the huge scoop and it has nothing to do with MS, that is if these people are to be believed. They won't say what it is, just that it has nothing to do with MS.

Yeah I think if it was something as big as a MS/SEGA partnership, I doubt very much it would be announced through a magazine. I look forward to seeing what this SEGA scoop is but I don’t think it will be a partnership with MS.

Might be announced before that with the magazine having the first full scoop

Even if it was a good move for them should we really want them to do it? When they buy a small studio they can invest and improve that studio so at least there is a positive impact. We shouldn't root for them to buy Sega and EA and Capcom.
