Game Lineup Comparisons

I suggest you look at both companies development studios, and what console will be supported by the public the most, to determine what console you buy.

Oh, I've already bought a PS4. I was just weighing the options, as they stand now. It was a much easier choice a year ago, but since the positive moves by MS (unbundling Kinect, price drop, etc.), the X1 is looking more appealing than it did. If I had to make the choice today, it would be harder than it was a year ago. I'd probably still come down on the side of the PS4, for the technical advantage and the indies (edit: also for a change of pace, since I was an Xboy for 12 years).

Andy,

I suggest you pick the system which has the games that interest you the most.

Going by your post history, you've always enjoyed RPGs. So if the details are there, skim all info you can find and see which one has the best RPGs you like.

Lol, we both kind of said the same thing if you think about it.
Not really. Your suggestion is based off a popularity contest. If that was the best case to determine picking a game system, everyone would pick PC.

Your suggestion would lead to every console gamer picking Wii last gen as it sold more than 360 and PS3. A good pick if you like motion controls and Mario, Zelda, Wii Fit and family style games. But not a good pick if you prefer broader base of games and an online focused experience.

My suggestion is picking a system based on what a gamer actually plays.

Thanks, as I mentioned above, I've already bought a PS4, I was just giving my opinion of how things stood (for me) right now, in terms of the exclusives.

As for RPGs, Bioware and Bethesda are the main companies I'm concerned about, and neither are exclusive, so that wouldn't really tip my decision either way. If MS bought Fallout 4 exclusivity, though, I would grab an X1 faster than you could say pip boy.

True. All the key western style RPGs will likely be multiplat. JRPGs will likely skew to PS4 more if you like those RPGs too and want to dabble with some niche games.

But at this point, Dragon Age is a bit better on X1 based off DF. ;)

As for F4, I'm amazed Bethesda hasn't spilled the beans yet. Fallout Vegas was I think 2009 or 2010, and Skyrim was 2011. I guess they are milking ES: Online as much as possible before detailing the next Fallout or traditional ES game.

Actually, this is incorrect.

I based my recommendation on base fundamentals. As with everything in life, if the fundamentals are strong, your future should be strong. Consoles are no different.

First, I suggest to anyone really, to take a look at each companies development studios. Find out what studios have earned your trust and what studios you're most interested in. The reason I say this is because this area is going to produce 90% of your consoles exclusives for the next six years. If you're not a fan of Naughty Dog, Sony Santa Monica, Polyphony Digital, and Sony Japan Studios, you're probably not going to like the PS4 for obvious reasons as they produce a lot for Sony.

Second, I suggest you strongly consider the overall health of each console going forward. If you think one console is going to have a much bigger user base than another console in three years, it's also reasonable to assume that console will receive all the typical benefits of being the market leader going forward.

I guess lastly I would recommend looking at both companies decisions regarding this industry in the past. Do they support developers? Do they make consumer friendly decisions regarding their games and console? Does their vision for the future align with yours? For example, Microsoft recently was outed for not paying their indie developers for months on end until these developers finally said enough is enough and made some noise about it. Was this a simple mistake or do you think this is a sign of something deeper?

You have to weigh all these things when considering what console you should buy. You reeeaaaaally have to like a game right now if you're willing to ignore the fundamentals. The next six years is a looooong time to be basing a purchase on one or two games. The fundamentals are so important.

I don't know, maybe I'm crazy. Just my two cents.

Bringing up Indie game payments is a just a news bite to make MS look bad. They responded saying it was a payment bug and all things are corrected. it's like bring up MS gives indie devs two free kits, while Sony charges them $2,500 due payable after one year.

Since you bring that up, I suggest gamers should then look at health of online performance. Live is much more reliable, has less downtime and less prone to hacks. if Live goes down an hour or two a month, it's big news and unexpected. If PSN goes down for the usual "maintenance needed" for 4 hours every two weeks, or during a holiday long weekend, it's par for the course.

And looking at OS updates, X1's gets more feature updates, the OS the more stable, and unlike PS4's firmware 2.0 messing up consoles, it's rare any kind of 360/X1 update messes up systems. X1 also supports DLNA, and external drives making storage space a breeze for gaming/files as all you have to do is plug it into a USB port and it works, while for PS4 you have to turn off the system, get a screwdriver, open it up and swap drives. And if you then want to play something on the drive you just took out, you have to repeat the process again.

Absolutely! Now you're getting it! That's a big thing too. If you feel XBL provides a much better experience for the end user than PSN or Nintendo's online, or vice versa, you must weigh that appropriately.

There's something in both camps that appeals to me. Hopefully, TR's exclusivity deal runs out pretty quickly -- that's the main draw for me on the Xbox side. I'm interested in Quantum Break, too, but I didn't enjoy Alan Wake as much as I'd hoped, so I've lost some faith in Remedy (loved Max Payne, though). D4 is a draw for me, too (loved Deadly Premonition). On the PS4 side, it's half a dozen indies and Uncharted that have my attention. So, for me, it feels pretty even overall, if you just judge based on exclusives.

Woah! Liking games on multiple platforms, the world has gone mad... mad I tell you, MAD!

You might want to be careful, Andy. Somebody so left wing generally gets persecuted.

Xbox One's lineup is TERRIBLE
Gears is 2016
That's a strong word. There's not one game on the exclusive AAA list that I'm not at least somewhat excited for despite the possibility that it could bomb.

Also, the "Xbox Indies also on PC but not PS4 " list is full of win.

Both XB1 and PS4 lineup is terrible.

Guess what game I'm playing more again.....BO2 on 360.

PS4 and XB1 are just lackluster so far in terms of exclusives that are only on that platform (not including games that also come out on pc). Honestly, if it wasn't for my cousins and friends playing AW on PS4, I wouldn't even have gotten a PS4.

I think forza series and sunset are pretty good.

There isn't any ps4 exclusive that made me excited so far, but I bought it for multiplayer mainly. Make for a good Netflix player as well.

They might be pretty good, I'm just not into games like that. I really don't like racing games, and games like sunset, infamous, etc don't appeal to me.

I'm more into military shooters, horror games and RPGs.

Why even buy consoles then. I know you have cousins that play consoles, but seems like PC is where it is at for you. I imagine you find the line-up on consoles pretty poor nigh on every year.

Because I play with my family on a near daily basis. Ever since I moved away from NY many years ago, gaming with my cousins is the best way for me to keep in touch with them. So even if I don't buy many games on console (I used to, before getting big into pc gaming), I still get my money's worth because I'm on the console nearly every day. Also, there are still "some" exclusives that I'll get that I'll enjoy....there's just not many.

there's also the "other" thing....I really don't care for the controller. I do fine enough with it, I just don't like it. I'm more at home using a mouse/keyboard.

I fired blops 2 up my self the other night on 360 and was surprised to see 210.000 people on line playing it. Probably more then AW . Lol

If you care about stable online you might not want to buy a next gen system. PSN was down yesterday and Live was down twice this past week.

And  at having to get a screwdriver. Now we are talking about major issues.

Yep, I noticed that as well. I like AW, but the more I played it, the more I missed BLOPs 2.

I don't know. I find that the 360 and my pc has so many good games already, that I can't muster up the desire to care for much on next gen systems, and that goes for both of them.

I am messing man.
Both have a great lineup imo.

I also don't like racing games, but still found a lot of enjoyment with FH2. It really is very good.

Yeah the playstation experience for me was a letdown, they showed some cool things with no idea when they are coming out, but pretty much just enough to keep the hardcore fans chasing the bait imo. Very typical showings, nothing surprising for 2015. I'm getting UC4, that's the only 100% on that side.

If MS gets Forza 6 this fall, that'll be all need, Tomb Raider, Forza, Halo 5, and of course Quantum Break. Maybe crackdown, so many AAAs I like, not to mention whatever surprises MS usually has on the short term.

I approve of this message.

Chasing the bait.lol Yeah no one could possibly be happy with the PS4 game line up, exclusives.

The PlayStation experience got me jazzed for my PS4 again. This year has been mainly about the one and Wii U for me but it looks like next year my ps4 will be getting more love. All around win.

Honest question: What did PSE do that E3 did not ?
I know we had UC4 footage and SF5 announcement, but UC4 was already known anyway. I would imagine anybody interested in UC4 was interested/liked the rest of the series.
