Ghost of Tsushima - Directors Cut Rated By ESRB For PS4/5

Yeah. The haikus, fox dens, torii gates, onsen hot springs, crickets, etc.. are all really cool. As someone who spent a couple years in Japan and has a minor in Japanese studies, I'm loving the unique cultural additions. Even the fact that stances play a major part in the sword combat makes me happy. This is the kind of open world game I've been wanting for years.
I've just started so I haven't even gotten to the stance changes yet. I got the bow and am on the one that gets stealth kills. So way early. Did a couple side quests end some light exploration

Yeah the audio is great, the music, the environmental sounds etc are all very nice.

I really can’t stand the battles where you have to constantly defend npc’s, I’ve come across several of them in my 5 hours or so. I’m trying to focus on timing and reading attacks and suddenly I have to run over and save somebody, and as soon as I do that another enemy triggers the same situation! Annoying as hell

I'm really starting to love this game. They keep it simple where they need to like items and item management, and animal guides once you get close to secrets.

This removes tedium in exploration in just the right way. They do a great job of rewarding exploration too. Getting gear for the Haikus is great.

Then they have depth where they should- the combat. I had my first duel over the Heavenly Strike and it was awesome!

Only negative I h a's ve so far is the camera during fights. It really is terrible.

That's... not good... my absolute worst time with assassins creed series was that and the eavesdrop missions, luckily they got rid of those this gen.

I said before I didn't notice my fan... well... now I do. Holy I gotta crank my sound to get to a point it's not annoying. This thing is prepping to break earth's gravity or something, lol.

You guys need to open your consoles and apply new thermal paste...it'll make a massive difference. I barely played anything for months because of it and only played older games that didn't push the system.

It’s a testament to this games strengths that despite it’s extremely annoying flaws it’s still an easy 9/10.

Anyone else unintentionally beating the hell out of their horse? My brain is having a hard time accepting mount isn’t triangle lol

HA! I did that the first two days, thankfully he doesn't hold a grudge lol. I also kept jumping off because I kept thinking X was the button to run faster instead of clicking the left stick. I've played too much RDR2 and AC lol.

I agree, the game taken as a whole makes it better than anything it does on an individual basis. If they sorted out the combat camera a bit more or added a lock on during battle that would go a long way towards fixing it's biggest issues.

I've only had two missions where I've had to defend people so far and I've been playing it like crazy so it's not that common.

I’ve only had two as well so far and I’ve about 6 or 7 hours gameplay behind me now. I don’t find them to bad. If you survey the enemies before attacking you can see if there are hostages or not. And if there are, you start with them
.
I’m absolutely loving this game. I’m playing on the regular PS4 and it’s still a serious looker.

Just shoot an arrow at the dude with the icon over his head. He will come after you.

I love this game! I'm totally hooked. I also love that it's not a loot-a-thon. So good.

I do wish I could craft my own arrows ;) generally you get enough to keep going but it'd be nice to be able to be somewhat self sufficient :)

I am really enjoying it too and my Pro is not running loud at all, it's warm in here and I played all day yesterday and a couple of hours today and not had any fan noise etc.

Same here. I'm bummed out seeing how many people passed on this because they thought this was "just an AC clone". So many unique, culturally interesting aspects of the game. If you've ever been interested in samurai or ninja, this game is for you.

Also pro tip I just realized- when you take an outpost, observe AND THEN kill the generals. You get 2 bars toward earning the next stance vs one if you dont observe first.

Even the sort of run of the mill side quests are more fun than normal just because of the setting/situation.

The simple depth is refreshing too. I'm not spending half my time sitting through endless swords and gear. Unlocking stuff is meaningful or as rewarding as the item itself, as most of it is just cosmetic.

You are actually incentivized by what you wear as each outfit type has specific advantages. Great design and an A+ to Sucker Punch.

I'm with you boahs, game is A-MA-ZING! I'm not normally one who would say look at this world, but the environments in this game are simply stunning. The combat just gets deeper and deeper the more you get into the stances & leveling them and your other skills up. The navigation and mobility is great (the climbing is the weak link in that regard, pretty simplistic). Someone phone Ubisoft and tell them this game shows how to do a skill for increased fall height correctly. Not that the one here is realisitic, but Ubi could never figure it out so they just removed it from Odessey, a game once tethered to the idea of historical realism.

How do you to the Observe piece? I know some places let you survey an enemy base but I don't find them on most places.

This game looks to have both immersion and gameplay. Red Dead couldn't hold me due to gameplay. I feel this may strike a better balance. Pretty hyped about it.
Red dead?

You meant red dead redemption 2, the spiritual successor to Barbie horse adventure?

You have to find them and sneak close. Itll put an R2 icon over their head to observe. It's kinda hard to do sometimes. Often they are outside somewhere training.

No, he meant RDR2, best gaming experience this gen... he just needs to practice the art of gaming gourmanding. It's like the difference of eating a masterfully done fois de gras as opposed to a big mac, an inexperienced mind would pick the big mac, but they'll never get that at a micheline restaurant.

If you sneak in to obverse them can you still issue the challenge for combat? Ive noticed you can only do that as you approach a base. Once you're in a base sneaking about if they see you it just starts up combat without giving you the option to challenge them.

You should be able to challenge once they dont know you are there. I'm not sure how it works exactly, but I've had several occasions where I wipe out half an outpost by sneaking, then I get an option to challenge remaining enemies.

I try to observe the leader first, then get back out, but I've observed then stealth killed and gotten 2 bars

Sometimes I just cant though, like when they are inside a Yurt and they'll see you no matter what.

The loading times in this game are fantastic. I feel like I fast travel way more often since I know I won't have to sit in a boring loading screen for more than a few seconds. I can't imagine how much faster it will be on a patched PS5 version.

You need to sneak away from the enemies and wait for a moment and sneak back in for the ability to do another standoff. Not sure how long you have to wait, but I usually will wipe out the easy enemies in part of the camp, then search for supplies, then go back to the remaining.

I love to do the typhoon kick or shoulder bash to knock an enemy off a cliff... I need to quit forgetting this game has a crazy cool photomode though....

I always forgot I have the shoulder charge! I need to remember to do it.

I unlocked Parry for the unblockable attacks and Wind Stance for fighting Spearmen. I'm absolutely destroying the enemies now.

Yeah sometimes it seems like spearmen are the most common enemies in some encounters, others shieldmen, very rarely are the swordmen the most prominent opponent in an encounter for me, at least thats what it seems. I'm nearing the end of Act 2 now, and so there are quite a few of the heavy Mongols. I have all stances fully leveled up though, so when I use the proper stance during engagements it's still a fun level of challenge... I still am not the best at parrying and getting the timing right for perfect parries, it seems you have to hit it more when they start to attack rather than just before the attack hits, but they're very fast...
