Playing with Tokyo some more now and I think I'm settling down with HFR Quality mode. Still get RT on and it hovers around 60-80fps pretty consistently. VRR is a game changer for enthusiasts.

I'm playing the series x version and haven't had any issues. Runs smooth for me. My son is playing the PlayStation 5 version and I can't really see a difference in graphics.

DF analysis is always a bit silly for people to focus on, unless it's a huge difference we aren't going to notice much during gameplay. It's good to know for people who have both consoles which one runs smoother I guess but for people who only have one console why even pay attention? they are going to get the version for the platform they have regardless of which one runs better lol.

Yes, with full support of MS engineers. I'm sure they had a small army working in shifts.

It's probably a combination of factors even though they had a whole year to optimize like dev tools, two different specs and working on other games.

Analysis : XSX fares worse than PS5 , equal at best in some parts. XSS is even worse.

00:00 Overview
00:38 Visual features comparison
04:11 Image quality comparison
06:04 Performance comparison
11:32 Analysis and conclusion

Effectively 10 different visual options on PS5|SX w/ 5 different motion blur settings. All testing done with default MB settings.
Cube maps and SSR in non RT modes does a reasonable job but RT reflections are generally better and more attractive and add a lot to the visuals.
RT resolution is lower in Quality vs HFR Quality.
PS5 has somewhat cleaner RT reflection quality compared to SX.
RT shadows also present, PS5 has very sharp and SX has diffused softer shadows. DF prefers the softer RT shadows but they are misaligned in some places.
Series S does not have RT. Only Quality and Performance modes and neither have RT.

Resolution:

SX Quality: 1512p. PS5 Quality: 1620p. Besides this difference all the other visual modes have the same pixel count. 1296p Performance and 1080p in HFR Quality / Performance.
Series S Quality: 1296p. Performance: 900p.

- Performance:

Quality mode: Locked 30 FPS with incorrect frame pacing.
Performance: 60hz target generally 50 to 60 FPS at all times.
Quality HFR (60hz w/ RT @ 1080p: More desirable but hovers between 45~60 FPS.
Performance HFR (60hz, no RT, 1080p): 55 to 60 FPS but still doesn't lock at 60.
Toggling 120hz modes in either HFR mode can go above 60 but full of frame time spikes.
PS5 Performance mode HFR generally runs 10~ FPS faster.
Regular 60hz performance holds 60 closer than SX "though the differences aren't massive"
Series S runs 'considerably worse than any other version'. 30hz can drop on top of the inaccurate frame pacing. Performance mode also drops more.
PS5 and SX also have non-VSync option but DF recommends not using these at all. Even with VRR displays these modes are not recommended. On Xbox there is still tearing observed even w/ VRR displays, so it's a no-go.
All console versions have input lag issues and camera laginess. Present on PS5 and not fixed in Xbox release.
DF thinks Tango should go back to the drawing board and fix the performance issues but they don't think it will happen as the game is a year after release.
Some musings about this disappointing conversion in light of Hi-Fi Rush's single 4K/60 performance profile.

Still waiting to come across the "unplayable input lag" in quality mode.

It's there. I play fast paced fps in 165hz on my PC. That could be why I can notice it more.

it's 99% of the time people who haven't experienced high framerate gameplay.
Either it is bad or it isn't.

I noticed the fps issues in Witcher 3 when it was tanking into low 20's. I noticed the FPS dips in Dark Souls 1 on PC.

I noticed the same thing in Days Gone on PS4.

Haven't noticed it here as of yet.

That would be me.

I'm a console gamer through and through. I was perfectly happy with 30fps. It wasn't until I started gaming at 60fps that showed me what I was missing. Its got to the point that I never want to game at 30fps ever again. I've tried and that stutter you get from panning the camera around makes me eyes bleed.

Bad is subjective, to me 60fps is bad, as I am used to playing at 100+

But we aren't talking about PC. We are talking about console. Where the vast majority are not going to notice a 5 fps drop from 60fps, or a frame or 2 from 30fps because it simply isn't game impacting enough. They will notice really bad drops because it impacts the game in a more obvious way.

If 60fps is bad then why are you playing on Xbox? If you aren't, then why even care what it is doing on that platform when its general absolute best (60fps) will never be good for you. Same for Dried, he doesn't have an Xbox. So, what difference doed the outcome of these videos even matter.

Playing>being told. Small differences are rarely actually noticeable and unless you plan to play this on both consoles at the same you aren't likely to notice the differences either.

Never said it wasn't. I am just too busy playing and enjoying a game to notice.

That's good that it doesn't affect you. Unfortunately it does affect the gameplay experience a bit for me where I can notice the slight delay when playing. Not game breaking but more of a minor annoyance. Even DF emphasized there was noticeable input lag and camera delays. I am still powering through the game though.

Isn’t it a bit disingenuous to call Tango a MS first party as if they’re 343 or the Coalition or something? I mean technically they are. But come on.

I’m sure it will be patched up to parity at some point. But really, who cares? Just more headlines for the gaming media.

All games have a slight delay. Even PC games. It has numerous variables.

True. But who knows what Sony put in that contract. They seem pretty concerned with MS gimping future versions of COD for some reason.
I think this game is the last of the pre-established binding contract with other platforms game. So, from here on out, it is plain sailing for Bethesda & Co.
