I'm on call for the rest of the week and the weekend. Not going to risk seeing it as I know the second I sit down, that phone is going to ring. I'll catch it next week sometime. Can't friggin wait to see it either.

Reviews have been decent, but I guess Zilla doesn't show up until the last 30 minutes of the flick. Which, is the best part of course.

Seriously? That blows.

Saw it tonight and thought the whole thing was a hot mess, very disappointed.

All of the reviews I have seen have been very positive

Watching this Saturday.

Hey guys! If you have Godzilla game (gamecube/xbox/wii/ps2 version), sell it quick on eBay/Amazon before the resale value or the demands drops.

What starts 90 minutes into the movie is the real monster-fest. Even before that, we see enough of monsters since early in the movie, which is actually pretty good for this film.

It's a very strange case where humans do next to nothing and the movie kinda works. I guess I understood it as a cosmic horror rather than a monster fighting film. See it on a largest possible 2D screen. DO NOT WATCH IN 3D. 3D tends to dwarf objects compared to 2D, and you don't want that to happen in this film.

I have never slept in during a movie in the Cinema before. My friends tell me i was snoring so loud they thought it was Godzilla breathing in the movie.

I didn't sleep through the whole thing, of course. Just a few 5 and 10 minute naps during the boring parts (and there were a lot of boring bits). Godzilla barely shows up throughout the 2+ hours...The movie was just very disappointing for me and i was pumped as hell to see it.

Ugh, this is part of what had me worried. Too much human element and not enough monster.

How is this compared to Pacific Rim? In terms of being a monster movie I mean. Do you guys think Toro would've been a good fit for this? Possibly in the future? Give a Blade 2 spin.

Yup, I don't know why it's that hard to have the monster in a monster movie for at least half the movie...
I might be wrong since I am not a fan of a monster movie, but you get to watch a LOT of monsters from the beginning. The humans part are not that good to begin with and the filmmakers knew that. Instead you get to watch a lot of scenes where humans and the monster are in a same shot, becoming a huge threat to humans. If you specifically want a monster wrestling you might be disappointed; if you just want monsters wrecking havoc, no way will you be underwhelmed.

Pacific Rim kinda fails as a monster movie, since it's a robot one first and foremost. Godzilla on the other hand is all about monsters, so if you want monsters, this is the one you want.

That's cool, as long as there are some monsters and they're not just in the closing act of the film. A good monster movie for me is the monsters ripping sh!t up in addition to battling each other.

Don't worry, they will rip the **** out of humans with every single movement.

Over $200M.

And I'm happy they didn't flood the film with Godzilla. If I wanted that I would just watch Transformers and then cry at Bay ruining my childhood.

Watched this over the weekend, it was pretty good. GF and her friend liked it a lot.

I'd put Pacific Rim above this though. That movie was just badass.

Loved this movie. Definitely better than Pacific Rim. Godzilla as a whole was just more epic. Pacific Rim had some cool moments, but taken as a whole, it was a weaker film.

Saw it last night and I was surprised at how good it was. I'd recommend people check out the movie Monsters. It was the directors first movie and you can see some of the same ideas in Godzilla. I really liked the creature design. It was a real tip of the hat to the old '50s/'60s monster movies. That fight at the end is just...

It was pretty good, saw it last night. The last takedown, you know what I am talking about if you saw it, was amazing.

Saw it. Lovely monster movie, Godzilla was given some justice for sure. Lack of monster fighting really is negative to me because when Godzilla and one of the mutohs finally have a standoff and they make us wait. It's moments like that when you realize why some action movies opt to tell less of a story. It really gets in the way of what everybody wants to say. Can't complain too much though, it was a lovely movie and even though they make Godzilla a bit too bulky, it was still awesome. I was impressed with how they handled him at times. There were moments where you'd almost believe that the monsters were in suits. Human story ended up being better than I thought it was and the whole movie really seemed to strive and give that classic monster movie vibe. Hopefully the first isn't the last before another reboot a decade from now.

As for the monsters, I actually thought they were really cool. Some didn't like them, claiming they aren't as creative, but not all of the Japanese monsters are exactly slam dunks and while I would enjoy to see them have some kind of ranged attack, like acid spit or something, they were very intimidating and a wonderful first monster foe. Who didn't love the end of the movie and Godzilla's ultimate triumph? So damn sweet. Those type of bits, it was nailed so f***ing good in this movie man.

At the end of the day, great movie. Gotta man up and say it was way better than I thought it was and they kept me compelled enough throughout enough of the movie where my complaints didn't spoil the whole thing.
