Got me a PS3

Anderson,

I just recently got a PS3 and my reaction to Resistance 1 was the same as you. I just couldn't get into it. Maybe I was too late to the party.

So I might just try Journey.

I think everyone should at least try Journey. It's just such a unique game. Probably only a third of the people who play it will really get into it, but for those people, it'll be a great experience. For the others, they may find it somewhat dull, but it'll probably still be a reasonably pleasant experience, nothing aggravating or annoying. It's hard for me to imagine someone who would really dislike Journey. If there is such a person, I don't want to meet him.

Ha. Me either. I'll put it on my PS3 list.

I guess I'm going to do the God of War series as well.

Journey is interesting the second time around. I am understanding things I didn't before. For instance, the first time around, I didn't really get that I was rescuing those kite-shaped creatures, and that they were my friends. I didn't understand that the big creature is showing you the journey ahead, in abstract symbols, and that the first mural he shows you suggests that the central mountain is the source of all life and everything.

I also have seen some new things, like a white-robed character that flew around me. He seemed to have an unlimited ability to fly. The figure behaved like another player might, so I assumed it was an advanced state you can enter in the game, somehow. I didn't encounter anything like that on my first playthough. Also, on my second run, I can access any of the previous levels through the temples on the second (?) level. Interesting the way the game communicates that without using words. Interesting the way the whole game does that.

I find that I like playing alone better. Although it's nice to pair up with someone for a brief period of time, they've been playing a lot longer than I have, so they jump quickly to the next objective point, which robs me of the sense of discovery I like so much. So I usually end up ditching them.

Journey-spoilers:
You get your white coat when you've discovered all the glowies and murals in the game, I got mine after around 4-5th playthrough, or so, but by that time I'd also seen a few different playthroughs online, and learnt where a few hidden away things were located. :)
You can see your cape get more and more advanced symbolry on it after you've discover more and more things ingame each playthrough.
A new player starts out with a single yellow ribbon, down on his cape, he allmost never get matched up with a white cape. :-/

Once you get your white cape, it dosn't give you unlimited fly ability, but it keeps recharging your scarf/fly ability automatically when you are on the ground, without the need to get red scarfs to charge it or glowies - so you can fly much more. :)
And you can swap between a red and white cape depending on how you want to play the game, at the monuments where you can select levels.

There are some techniques wich will allow you to fly really long and much faster tough, but it's really hard to master. :)

I finished my third playthrough of Journey tonight. I love it. When the game ends and the statement comes up, "Thanks for playing Journey," I always want to say, "Thanks for making Journey." It is really like nothing I've ever played before. It is one of those games that "has a soul." In fact, I can't think of any game that has more of a soul. Playing it, for me anyway, is a spiritual experience. I have zero hesitation in saying it is a work of art, and I mean that in the highest sense of the word art, not just a well-crafted creation but something that shifts my perspective to something wider or more elevated and is beautiful. I finished it half an hour ago, and the feeling (joy) is still with me.

That Game Company has raised 7 million for their next game. It will be multiplatform.

Chen also said thatgamecompany has now entered "the next phase of development" on its upcoming project. The $7 million will help thatgamecompany "scale up development efforts" to allow the studio to make "the best game possible" that is in the spirit of flOw, Flower, and Journey. The funds also help thatgamecompany "begin laying the infrastructure to self-publish, market, and distribute on our own terms for this project and beyond."

Thatgamecompany's new title is going to be an "emotionally engaging experience centered around human connections for players of all ages and backgrounds." The studio says it is chomping at the bit to share more information, but this won't happen until the project gets further along in development.
