This was the problem for me. They set expectations that was completely different to what they showed. Halo was never a looker graphics wise but knowing it was on a new engine and from the teaser trailer from 2018 I was expecting a complete different look. Imagining something like Halo using the Unreal engine or something similar. Apart from the lighting issues I think the demo looked okay but with the expectations set, it just didn’t come close to what I was expecting. That expectation was because of the teaser and that is down to MS/343.

i concur....halo was never a pretty one, especially when compared to launch titles that released along side it with CE, master chief doesn’t kick high ;)

if this is what it’d look like on the one then cool, halo 5 didn’t even have self shadows. But I expect ray tracing to doll it up quite nicely.

I don’t care if they have to drop the resolution to 1440p if they need to but if there is a game that is in need of RT it’s Halo Infinite. I do think it will look great when it launches.

Halo CE was a looker at launch. There is not one shooter that was out in that time frame that looked as good (excluding PC). I think people forget how crap shooters on consoles looked at that time.

However, since Halo CE, I do agree that they weren't going to win any graphics awards. It still doesn't excuse how they setup expectations and then severely under delivered. But I am reserving final judgment on graphics until I see it running with Raytracing. That could make a huge difference and may get us much closer to the two previous trailers.

Halo 5 is still one of the best looking game this gen. Even Digital Foundry loves it.

That is true, but Halo 5 was definitely smaller in scale compared to most Halo games. It looked good, but there were a lot of shooters that looked better when it released. I can't think of one console shooter that got close to Halo CE for a good while.

Would be absolutely brutal to wait another year for a new mainline Halo game, even if with all the added polish it becomes the best game in the series.
I snagged the MCC and already have 5.
I will be good playing those games with XSX enhancements.
Plus Gears 5 oh Gears 5 how I luv thee and can't wait to try it with RT or 120fps.

I think we will be waiting a LONG while for mainline Gears, Forza and Halo games. Then again, people were tired of the rinse and repeat of these games and said to take a break.

Yeah, I think getting back into Gears 5 will be my move on the Series X. Already have three months of Ultimate lined up. Maybe I'll finally play the campaign too!

They need to optimize for the final lighting design in RT first, then bake the lighting version for Xbox One based off of that model, not the other way around. I'm guessing that the only thing that made them do this backwards is because both the Slipspace engine and DXIIU were neither complete enough at the same time. Still, I hope the delay means that the lighting has begun being redone from the ground up, with the best version (RT included) going first this time.

I think Halo 4 looked better than Halo 5.

Totes, the hard sci-fi look was over the top, five toned it down a bit, but still had some sweet sets.

I think Halo 4 looked better than Halo Infinite.

I kinda agree, but it was just a some build that we’ll probably never get to play. I’ll hold off until I play the game in its entirety

Halo Infinite Development Reportedly Hindered By Outsourcing, Halo TV Show a 'Distraction

One major factor in Infinite's delay supposedly stems from the fact that "a significant portion of the game is being outsourced to third-party contractors." This is standard practice in the games industry, especially in AAA, but in Infinite's case, the report suggests that the level of outsourcing has been unusually high, with "the coordination between the many different companies contributing to Infinite has been rough, at best."

IMO it seems MS still hasn't learned to stop relaying on outsourcing their IPs to 3rd party studios. Crackdown comes to mind as does Battletoads.

It’s really weird that they would do that to such a degree with Halo.

Turn 10 outsources their cars to multiple studios around the world. It take one person one month to make one car. It takes 6 months to make one track.

Must've outsourced it to the lowest bidder.
