I just registered projectmorpheusforum.com, if anyone wants to help please let me know

'We believe Morpheus will further enhance PlayStation'. It'll work alongside the camera, and Move.

Time for you guys to go buy that camera. ;)

The design is awesome fwiw, it makes the oculus look terrible in comparison.

Oculus has Carmack, Sony has NASA. I'm not sure who wins that battle.

PlayStation Move is an excellent VR controller, says Marks.

We want to make PlayStation the best place for VR - and not just for playing, but for developing.' List of people already working on this - Crytek, Havok, Unity, Epic, CriWare.
The current devkit is 1080p. 90 degree field of view. Bear in mind this is the devkit, though, so this isn't final. 1000Hz tracking - and full 360 degrees rotation tracking. DualShock 4 and PS Move both work with the same camera. It's quite obvious that the PS4 was designed with VR in mind. That's the reason for that lightbar on the DS4, I guess.

The prototype is wired - and its a 5 metres long cable.
"Do you plan to use eyetracking inside the device?" They're researching it.
When will it come out? Framerate and latency aims? They won't answer. "Highest framerate we can get, lowest latency we can get," they say, jokingly. "Coming out as soon as possible."
PS Move's technology is being used in Project Morpheus to help with tracking. PlayStation Camera on PS4 is also essential. "It's almost as if it was designed for VR," he said with a wink.
They want it to be able to be picked up and used with no issues. Pick it up, put it on, you're in VR. Put it down, you're out. No issues.

Sony will be live-demoing several items at GDC. First come first serve.
  • Sony London has a demo called The Deep.
  • A Castle demo is also available to play with in conjunction with PS Move.
  • EVE's Valkyrie
  • Thief from Square Enix(specific portion made for demo)

Specs from Eurogamer:

Below are the current specifications of the prototype. Sony stressed they are subject to change:

  • Component: Processor unit, head-mounted unit
  • Display Method: LCD
  • Panel Size: 5 inches
  • Panel Resolution: 1920×RGB×1080 (960×RGB×1080 per eye)
  • Field of View: 90 degrees
  • Sensors: Accelerometer, Gyroscope
  • Connection interface: HDMI + USB
  • Function: 3D audio, Social Screen

Sony's own studios will "seed" the VR landscape, but they need other devs, hence they're here at GDC.

Part of the announcement involved footage of a VR God of War, PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida saying "When I looked down, I saw my body was that of Kratos. That was an empowering experience."

Yoshida directly referenced the Oculus Rift in his presentation, saying "I have an enormous amount of respect for them, and we were inspired and encouraged by the enthusiastic reactions of developers and journalists who tried [the Oculus Rift]".

Note that the headset, pictured above, is not the unit's final design, as Sony is still working on it. That said, here are the prototype's specs:
·1080p display with 90-degree field of view
·15mm eye relief
·1000hz display
·Full 360-degree movement
·Supports forward prediction

In terms of games, EVE Valkyrie is playable on the current dev kit, which is exciting. There'll also be a special build of Thief being released; not the entire game, but some key sections reworked for VR support. There's also games called The Deep and The Castle, the latter of which will let you use a PlayStation Move to control a sword.

Exciting stuff.

Sorry, missed if you had your thread first or not. Mods can merge, remove, whatever with mine.

We probably want to merge these threads or something. Obscene J created his first I believe.

Sony has been working on this for over 4 years.

But leave it to the usual suspects to bring the BS.

Did they? Isn't what they showed better than Oculus?

Design wise it looks cooler, I'll give it that.

Both are still works in progress but Oculus has a wider FOV and has onboard headtracking at the moment. They also said Sony are looking into possible eye-tracking and wireless, so things could swing either way. It's probably too early to call it either way for sure.

What thread are you reading?

Crystal Cove prototype at CES in January is pretty much exactly this except the the rift has better FoV. The thing that is copied is the smartphone display and optics. There's a lot that goes into warping the display in order to fill your fov and give a realistic looking VR space. Sony obviously reverse-engineered the dev kit and put together their own version of it.

They are already too late with VR HMD. They were beaten by Oculus Rift.

Yes, superior to the first dev kit. Not superior to the recent prototypes. Dev kit 2 will be announced tomorrow from Oculus and there will be people playing both that and morpheus. Going to be interesting to see people's impressions of both of them side by side. Sony and Oculus really need to be on the same team in a lot of regards though. I mean, Eve Valkyrie is coming to morpheus but oculus is co-publishing it? Seems weird. They need to work together and bring VR to the market properly so a large amount of quality content can be delivered overall.

They're both 1080p displays at the moment. Check out recent Oculus news, they're probably basing that off of old prototypes, the 1080p ones haven't been sent out IIRC.

That would be pretty awesome actually, they need to get this stuff in the market asap.

I still don't know how to feel about VR. Sounds awesome in theory but actually playing it is a different story. Really needs to be experienced in order to truly know what it feels like, I think.
