This looks really good to me. The visuals, the old school throwback style, the storytelling... It's either an action-adventure platformer or an RPG, I'm not sure. I never played the original games, so I don't have a sense of it. But I like what I'm seeing so far.

It's coming to both PS3 and 4, Xbox 360 and One, plus PC. No Wii U, although it seems like a good fit for the audience (reminds me of a Disney movie in a way).

They're saying it's due in Fall 2015, but I wouldn't be surprised at a delay.

King's Quest VI is one of my all time favorites. Great memories playing that game with my Dad and Brother.

One of the first game I played as a child was KQ1. Look forward to diving back into this world.

I'm really liking the vibe from this game. I can't believe heard of this game series before.

Love the visuals here. Interesting to hear how they make the visuals too. Sounds like a lot of work is going in to it.

looking good and i was somewhat surprised at it not being a point and click adventure.

Yeah, it looks old-fashioned, hand-crafted. I love the color, too. I'm so tired of the dimly lit areas and grey-black tones that every game uses. I'm looking forward to it. Hope we hear more at E3.

Some good voice talent there, too -- Christopher Lloyd, Tom Kenny, Wally Shawn. I didn't realize Zelda Williams was Robin's daughter. Did he name her after the Nintendo Zelda? That's kind of cool, if so.

It's nice to see people really enjoying their work on a game, rather than just hyping it. It gives me some faith that the game will have heart -- or at least, that it'll be fun to play.

I just read that this game will be episodic, which was a surprise. It will be 5 episodes, with the first targeted for release this Fall.

You will make choices -- not dialog-driven choices, but choices in how you solve the puzzles:

"The choices aren't between 'Good Graham' and 'Bad Graham' - the older games have already proven that Graham is a good guy. Rather, most of the choices will be focused around three core traits: Wisdom, Bravery and Compassion. The designers want to make sure you mix up your choices and don't just stick to a single trait the entire time."

"What choices the player will make influences your granddaughter and the problem she faces in that episode. For instance, if you decide to shoot the dragon in the eye, what lesson does that teach your granddaughter about how she should approach her uncertainty towards the tournament? How your granddaughter develops over the five episodes is mostly a consequence of your choices in the stories old Graham is telling."

I don't know about the gameplay yet but I really like the look of the game.

The first episode of King's Quest, A Knight to Remember, arrives July 28.

King's Quest: A Knight to Remember, the first episode in a five-part saga, will launch July 28, according to a trailer released today.

King's Quest is The Odd Gentlemen's take on the classic adventure series, following Activision's revival of the Sierra label. The game follows the youthful adventures of King Graham, now an old man telling stories to his granddaughter. Watch the trailer above for a look at the game.

King's Quest: A Knight to Remember will be available for PlayStation 3, PS4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Those old KQ games were fun, but since it was very specific in terms of parser, never finished KQ1. My bros and I got stuck on the water well. Turns out all we had to do was "dive". Instead we messed around with commands and after failed attempts would drown.

KQ2 was a huge disappointment. They really dumped down the game and I'm pretty sure we coasted through that game in one day.

I've seen some other positive reviews as well, though no others that high (a couple in the 8's). Polygon gave it a low score, 6.5, based mostly on technical performance issues they experienced. I'll see if i can excerpt some reviews later if I have the time.

Game Informer, 8.0:

"So far, King's Quest is remarkable in its ability to call back to the classic design of '90s point-and-click adventures without succumbing to as many pitfalls. The combination of wacky character interactions, goofy logic puzzles, and heartfelt story beats has me eager to see what's in store in Chapter II. The team at The Odd Gentlemen has created one of the most endearing, true-to-form adventure games I've played in recent years."

Destructoid, 9.5:

"I wish King's Quest: A Knight to Remember was a bit more taxing, but I loved everything about it. If this series does well I hope we get to see the adventures of other family members like Alexander, and additional areas like the Land of the Green Isles. Right now though, I'm going through withdraws for the second episode already. Move over Telltale, there's a new adventure king in town."

Polygon, 6.5:

"I'd extend that same conditional optimism to the whole of King's Quest. The things that The Odd Gentlemen have gotten right are very, very right; they just happen to be severely bogged down by some technical and executional missteps. Here's hoping as the story continues that, like the future Sir Graham, King's Quest stays sincere and silly while growing just a bit more competent."

impressions:

"The first chapter revisiting this classic series shows how adventure games should be done. It's pretty great all around."

Angry Centaur, rated "buy":

This game looks incredible. Another title catching me by total surprise and further adding to the backlog.

Going to buy the whole series...not sure if it makes any difference to do it on PS4 or X1.

I'll just note that the technical problems Polygon experienced were based on an X1 playthrough. I don't know the cause, but I do know there was a problem getting the day-one patch distributed on the PS4 (it's sorted now). Maybe that affected the X1 version, too. Or maybe Polygon was given a pre-patched version.
