King's Quest

Destructoid is my main go to site for reviews as I've found they match for me the most, hence my super excitement. Doesn't look like the game launches on Xbox until tomorrow though. :(

Not sure on branching storylines.

It's weird, but PlayStation Store isn't even showing this game anywhere in existence. Not even anything about when it launches.

I've downloaded it already on PS4. I'm in the US, so it might be distributed at different time if you're in a different region.

Hmm. My game just said it was pre-ordered but out of curiosity I clicked on it and it downloaded a file and launched the game. Hopefully will find time to play it tonight.

Here's the launch trailer. They're marketing it in a very family-friendly way, almost like a Disney/Pixar movie.

Got it on Steam. Am enjoying it, it's just the kind of 90s adventure game I remember. Beautiful graphics and music, and Christopher Lloyd is a hoot. He's great as a voice actor.

It plays a bit like a Telltale game, with fewer response options and a much more whimsical tone.

Lots of positive impressions in the GAF thread. "Charm" is a word they use a lot. "It's like playing a cartoon." Praise for the graphics, animations, music, storytelling, and voice acting. Main negative seems to be that it's easy (although that may be a neutral or even positive for some).

I'll get to it when I can. I'm looking forward to it, but I'm getting inundated with indie/DL titles lately.

IGN, 8.0:

"Old-school adventure game mechanics make a great return to form in King's Quest: A Knight to Remember. This tale is funny, beautiful, and challenging enough to make up for a few plodding quests and frequent load screens, and it maintains its personality from start to finish, sprinkling the first episode of its story with happy highs and tragic lows."

I bought it, but only been able to play the intro part. Love it so far though!

Telltale has taught me to steer clear of buying whole season's up front (due to their deplorably slow release schedules) so I just bought episode 1. If it's quality, and they can release future episodes before I stop giving a crap, I'll gladly pay the extra $10.

I've put in a couple hours so far and absolutely love it. Speaking of release, any idea how long before chapter 2 is supposed to come out?

Yeah, it looks old-fashioned, hand-crafted. I love the color, too. I'm so tired of the dimly lit areas and grey-black tones that every game uses. I'm looking forward to it. Hope we hear more at E3.

Some good voice talent there, too -- Christopher Lloyd, Tom Kenny, Wally Shawn. I didn't realize Zelda Williams was Robin's daughter. Did he name her after the Nintendo Zelda? That's kind of cool, if so.

It's nice to see people really enjoying their work on a game, rather than just hyping it. It gives me some faith that the game will have heart -- or at least, that it'll be fun to play.
Robin did name his daughterb after the Zelda games as he's a huge fan of the game.

I didn't pay attention to voice actors prior to release outside of Lloyd but lol Wally Shawn. As soon as his character talked I'm like oh hell yes. Can't mistake his voice.

I just want to be playing this game right now instead of working. So damn good.

The look reminds of Dragon's Lair. Is that how the game controls?

Never played it, but in this you pretty much just walk around and press A to do stuff and X to open inventory.

So is this anything like the original series? I remember playing, the third one I think. I was just a little kid and had no idea what the fu@k I was doing. These adventure games could be pretty obscure back then. Is this more like a streamlined experience. What are the puzzles like?

I too would like to know this. The last kings quest game I played was kings quest 5. That was in 1990. Still remember it like it was yesterday and the 50 3.5 inch disk that came in the box.

Holy credo! This game is amazing! Great way of telling a lighthearted adventure.

Decided to buy Chapter 1 and see if my nostalgic love for the game is revived (Space Quest next maybe?!?),

Taking forever to DL tonight but I'll be playing tomorrow and post my impressions.

Yea there was a big update a couple nights ago that took forever to download. Not sure what it did though.

Beat it last night. Will have to go back to get the secret achievements at some point. Hopefully it doesn't take too long for chapter 2.

Loving it so far. The art style, the dialog, the storytelling, the voice acting, the humor -- everything is so good. I feel like I'm playing a Disney movie.

I hope this game succeeds, so that developers are encouraged to make more like this. There's really nothing else like it that I can think of. It's not particularly challenging, but there is a lot of variety, charm, and wackiness to keep things moving along. It puts a smile on my face. It would probably be a great game to play with your kids, if you have them.

Just in case anyone thinks they have to make a choice between buying Episode 1 or the Season pass, you can still get the Season Pass deal ($10 off), even if you buy Episode 1 first/separately.

I finally got to play this for a couple hours tonight with my wife joining in (she rarely does this). We've both been pulled into the story and the graphics are artistically fantastic. We haven't encountered anything that was difficult in platforming or puzzle-solving. The puzzles are very straight-forward thus far (we made it to meeting the girl).

It does appear that choices made are going to have an effect on the story and we've already seen those choices being mentioned by NPC's we meet.

One word summary on the game so far: Delightful.

Finished Chapter 1 with the wife riding along the whole way (minor miracle). I felt there was plenty of content, memorable characters, above average humor, and puzzles that made sense but were still challenging enough to slow us down but never frustrate.

The best review I can give is that we are definitely on board for Chapter 2. Nice to see Sierra relavent again.

Sounds good. I only played a half hour or so, but it had a nice, easy charm that I liked a lot. I got sidetracked with other games, but I want to get back to finishing it.
