Halo also didn't (and still doesn't) have ray tracing lol. Spider-Man didn't have dynamic time of day, I wouldn't be surprised if this one doesn't either. The sun moving like that is obviously a bug, a funny one too lol.

The MP of Halo Infinite has ray traced sun shadows on PC. So you're technically wrong.

Talking console not PC, RT was promised at a later date for console and still hasn't come. We were also talking about the Halo infinite debut trailer which wasn't MP.

I think halo has real time day/night cycle, clouds even effect onto the world.

I forget what it’s like in fh5 but I remember in fh4 the shadows were like second hand of a ticking clock
It did have a day/night cycle and Spider-Man didn't.

Don't know what campaign I played from start to finish then.

This looks rough in areas. They could very well have it all fixed but like Halo this was shown in a very controlled environment and it still showed its issues.
The campaign has virtually no story lol it was clearly cut to the bone just to get it out the door. Having what was basically a horde mode for your last level was terrible. It's a shame because the game felt great to play but they didn't build a good story to go along with it or any kind of variety in the environment, the "open world" was pointless since everything looks the same.

Spider-Man will probably have most of the issues fixed, I'm sure there will still be pop in I doubt that'll ever be eliminated from any game, especially games that let you fly or do something similar. Look how bad the pop in was with Halo when flying slowly with the air vehicles, Spider-Man 2 has more things on screen and far less pop in while moving much more quickly.

  • 1296p - 1872p 30fps
  • Improved environmental details and water rendering
  • Character switch from Peter to Miles without a loading screen
  • Similar to the previous games

Yeah the game looks awesome for an open world. The only improvement I would suggest is the water effects.
Yeah, those flats for the splashes looked so dated, but the cool small detail was the closeup near the end and you could see the edges of his suits white eyes had taken the shape of venoms ever so slightly.

Some more notes, this is an old build as per Insomniac.

-Map has been overhauled to add more model details and assets to be less flat (Pylons, Antennas, Vents, Balconys, new buildings, etc)
- Map has been expanded to include Brooklyn and Queens in the same detail
- Ray Traced reflections return in this 30fps mode
- Water has improved a lot and also has Ray Traced reflections
- Dynamic 4k between 1296p at lowest and 1872p at highest
- Instant switching between characters also putting the SSD to good use
- Shadows still raster though unlike PC version of Spider-Man and Miles Morales that offers Ray Traced shadows
- Improved combat and move set for both characters
- However they think this is just an Iterative update, building on top of Spider-Man and Miles Morales whilst taking some things they've learned from PC versions

From Gaf:

The water is only improved compared to the remaster and Miles, which where both downgraded compared to the og game. The og game had literally the same water rendering as SM2 just without the RT reflections.

Summary

- "On the surface, same technology ... without obvious new graphical techniques"
- Building details get notable upgrade over PS4 games in terms of assets and additional details.
- Water rending has been notably improved. Better simulation and density.
- Surface also glossier and truer to life thanks to RT reflections

- Biggest game changing thing seems the ability to change between the Spider Man's on the fly
- Environmental reflections are using RT (ala 30 FPS RT modes in the older ones)
- Lighting may get improvements from probe based system

- One small visual issue, the sun seems to visibly move on the screen back and forth in a scene
- 1296 to 1872p. Similar to Fidelity mode on the original games
- 30 FPS in this demo

Nope. That isn’t real-time gameplay where you control the character.

We already saw in the trailer demo real time gameplay.

Here is also gameplay in the original. The second one will be a guaranteed improvement over an already amazing looking first one as per DF's analysis. Still one of the best looking open world and superhero games out ever.

It’s not bad. But don’t let them fool you with their non gamer controlled gameplay bullshots.

We have all seen every video. Even us at Gaf can see this.

I have played both it and Miles. The game looks phenomenal.

In photo mode, the game looks even better.

Spidey 2018 is one of the best superhero games ever. I would say only the Arkham games is the only series of games that I'd consider as equal or in some areas better than what Insomniac did.

My only real complaint or hope for improvement is with the side missions. The story missions were well crafted with awesome set-pieces with a lot of flash & excitement. But the side missions were too samey and got boring after doing them for a while.

I'm really looking forward to this sequel. And since they are telling the story of the Symbiote I'm even more excited but also cautious since I'm sure Sony doesn't want the game to get too dark in its storytelling or violence so it appeals to a broader audience. Still, I'm looking forward to taking control of a slightly unhinged and dangreous Peter Parker and then assuming the role of Miles Morales to bring Parker back into the light.
