Ok, so if they do try to make a story then please make it where the player is fully in control of how it goes. A story that could lead somewhere or nowhere at all. Completely open-ended like the game itself.

Not to sound like a smartypants, but there's two reasons why that won't happen. First, it's Telltale. They develop games with traditional, structured stories -- exposition is done mostly via cutscenes, and there is fairly limited player input/choice. Second, I don't even think what you're describing is possible. It sounds more like a sandbox or a set of tools, rather than a story (which by definition has structure and direction). It also sounds impossible. If the player was completely in control of how the story progressed, the writers' and programmers' jobs would be enormous.

I know you're just hoping, but I felt it was my duty to dash your hopes.

Minecraft is built around player creativity without the need for a plot. But Telltale wants to build a plot without player creativity?

There's something wrong there.

It definitely looks cheesy but when it comes to games i don't judge until i play them myself. Plus Minecraft is awesome. So yeah, we'll see.

It's an odd match, that's for sure. Story-free sandbox game meets linear story-focused developer. I've heard a lot of Minecraft fans have created stories within the Minecraft universe, so I guess it's not too far-fetched.

I'm sure Telltale will make a fine game. It's just strange. Walking Dead and Game of Thrones make sense, but this is risky. I never heard how Tales from the Borderlands faired though.

Very well. It's lots of fun, has plenty of action and a good sense of humor. DLC and I were just saying it's the second-best series they've done (first being the first season of The Walking Dead).

Does anyone know what's happening with the Day of the Tentacle/monkey Island licenses? These guys should have a romp with them! As long as they have some comedic skill...

Here's a preview from PAX.

"The hands-on demo for Minecraft: Story Mode at PAX has the player choose both the gender and the race of Jesse from among six available options, though the demo does lock the option to the simple overalls-wearing white male. On his way to EnderCon, Jesse loses track of his pet pig, Reuben, who is dressed in a dragon costume that has been set on fire. His best friends Axel and Olivia also help in find Reuben but Jesse is the man for the task, looking at pig tracks, finding trees burnt to a crisp, and calling out to Reuben: "All pigs but Reuben, shut up!"

[....]

"From there, the story skips several scenes to Endercon where Jesse, Petra, Axel, and Olivia are all having a fantastic time until a giant tentacle beast that looks straight from Lovecraftian hell is summoned into the sky and begins shooting tractor beams at the convention-goers. Jesse must complete several dodging action sequences, where the player must avoid pitfalls and eyebeams, grab a hold of objects as tightly as possible, and save other characters who are being sucked into the tractor beam."

He concludes:

"Minecraft: Story Mode looks to be one of Teltale's strongest episodic tales yet, especially given the originality of the storyline and the serious but still playful treatment of the Minecraft world. The best part is that you don't need to know anything about Minecraft, really, to enjoy the game, though knowing Minecraft will help in all of the referential humor.

Minecraft: Story Mode will release later this year for PC, Mac, iOS, Android, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4."

Didn't realize it was scheduled for later this year. Earlier than I expected.

First episode will be released Oct. 13th.

Also available via retail disc on 10/27. The disc will include a code that unlocks the other episodes as they become available.

"We’ve also managed to snag some seriously all-star voice talent for the season. Male Jesse is portrayed by Patton Oswalt, while female Jesse is voiced by Catherine Taber (she’s been in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Marvel Heroes). The season will also feature Brian Posehn, Ashley Johnson, Scott Porter, Martha Plimpton, Dave Fennoy, Corey Feldman, Billy West, and Paul Reubens."

Might wait on this. Still waiting for them to finish Season 1 of Game of Thrones. Plus both consoles down the line tend to give away the first episode in Telltale games.

The whole purpose of Minecraft is to make your own story. Take a hint from Lego on how they screwed up their blocks by coming out with themed sets telling kids what they had to make. Back in my day Lego's were just a bunch of blocks and left to our own creativity.

Ok, so if they do try to make a story then please make it where the player is fully in control of how it goes. A story that could lead somewhere or nowhere at all. Completely open-ended like the game itself. No idea how, but I do know that funneling this game down a linear path is the antithesis of what this game is all about.

But what you are describing exists... it's called Minecraft, lol. I see no reason they can't make linear experiences in it- it's not like it replaces the original game. I wonder if will retain all of the freedom to dig/craft/create from the core game or if they will limit you somehow.

Wait...Corey Feldman is still ALIVE!? Interesting that he is still relevant to get a job, let alone to have enough notoriety to have his name listed as a plus, lol. At least it's not Lost Boys 3!

Mmmm... Corey Feldman. I'm still waiting for a movie with him, Tori Spelling, and Shaq. Update it with Amanda Bynes.

Can you say "Oscars!"?

Available to download on October 13, 2015, for Xbox 360 & Xbox One.

That looks horrid, but will sell millions. There is no stopping the Minecraft beast. It is going to possibly eclipse Mario as the biggest gaming property ever.

This may have interested even cynical me had it involved some actual creative mine crafting of the player to solve puzzles and advance the story. I could be wrong but this just looks like a kiddy adventure clothed in familiar blocks.

I don't know anything about Day of the Tentacle, but they did a Monkey Island series many years ago if you want to check that out.

I seem to buy everything Telltale does, so I'm sure I'll buy this one, too. My first impression was "man, that looks cheesy," but some previews have made me optimistic. I wonder about those blocky characters. I know that's Minecraft, but it's hard to feel empathy for characters if they don't have human-like facial expressions. I guess we'll see how they handle that.

Second episode is out already. That was fast. I still haven't gotten around to the first one.

Good news for WiiU owners. Seems like a perfect fit.

MS should have traded Minecraft rights on Nintendo for Mario or Zelda rights on Xbox. Heads around the world would explode.

Minecraft creator Marcus “Notch” Persson, who sold the title to Microsoft or $2.5 billion in 2014, won’t be part of 10-year anniversary plans for the game because of his “comments and opinions,” Microsoft tells Variety.

“His comments and opinions do not reflect those of Microsoft or Mojang and are not representative of ‘Minecraft,” a Microsoft spokesperson told Variety.

Persson, once an involved member of the video game development community, has increasingly ostracized himself with his Twitter comments, including transphobic statements and comments about a “heterosexual pride day,” and that “it’s ok to be white.” Persson has about 3.7 million followers on Twitter.
