Mini-Review/Backlog Destruction Thread

Sherlock Holmes Chapter One

Enjoyed the story and liked it having a personal quest going on throughout the case solving.

Detective stuff was good and a nice amount of side quests. Also looks pretty nice at times though still has that old style of characters barely moving while talking. Very Mass Effect 1.

Open world felt a bit lifeless and the combat sections suck.

3/5

About 2.5 months and 142 hours later I've finally come out the other side of Persona 5 Royal. What an experience. I didn't know what I was getting into having never played a Persona game before, and what I got was just incredible. Incredibly long... but also incredibly good. Everything from the story to the characters to the voice acting is just superb. Looking forward to Persona 6.

Next up I continue my first playthrough of the Darksiders series with Darksiders 2.

Off topic, but am I the only one getting female panties ads on this site?

Playing Resident evil 3 in weekend, it make me think the over focus on making long game instead of quality game.

Every area in RE3 has a reason to be there, & not just filler to fill time. Many games these days have so much filler contents & empty/filler levels.

An example is starfield, so much walking to get one place to other with nothing of interest other than an few loot & mat to collect. Bfore people jump (its realistic), but why not give us a vehicle, cover same area, in significant reduced time.

Vehicles would help the exploration part in Starfield for sure so I don't know why they didn't include that.

I'm deep into Starfield so its eating up all my time.

Probably going to take a break to give MK 1, Phantom Liberty, and others a playthrough.

Just finished Darksiders 2. While I really enjoyed Darksiders 1, this is definitely my favorite now. The only downside was it was a little too puzzle heavy for me at times, but overall I thought it was great.

Next up, moving onto my next game in my full Resident Evil series playthrough, Resident Evil 4 (Remake).

I thought D1 and 2 both suffered from going a bit too puzzle heavy.
D2 puzzle involving the water near the end went on way too long. And padded what felt like 2hrs onto the game.

Finished Starfield's main story. Need time to digest what I just played but it's left a pretty good impression on me. Gonna jump into Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty expansion for a bit now.

Still working on Phantom Liberty, which is great but also trying out a new game pass game by Paradox, Lamplighter's League. It's essentially an X-com game set during the 1930s. Very much feels like an X-com Indiana Jones mash up. Quite fun so far.

Finished Resident Evil 4 Remake, and boy was that a good game. I had to apologize to my childhood self for never playing the original when I was younger, but I'm glad I've played this now. Easily my game of the year, and I'd say that even if it wasn't the only game that came out this year that I've played.

Next I'm going to do a couple quick games that I've always wanted to play but never did: Genesis Noir and Star Wars Force Unleashed.

Do you know if this game still stuttering on Series X?

RE4 Remake or Darksiders 2? Either way, I didn't notice any for either of them. RE4 specifically ran really well imo.
Sorry, Darksiders 2. It had a stutter problem at one point but wasn’t sure if it ever got fixed.

Finished Star Wars The Force Unleashed tonight after having finished Genesis Noir last weekend.

Genesis Noir was a trip. I vaguely understood the overarching metaphors but at any given time I'd say I had no idea what was going on. It was still interesting though and I liked that each chapter was vastly different than the last.

Star Wars Force Unleashed was pure xbox 360 era nostalgia. From the gameplay to the menus. I really enjoyed it.

Next up, just in time for Halloween, I'll be starting a series I've always been interested in with The Evil Within. I hear that the game is pretty difficult so haven't decided if I should try Survival mode (normal) or just stick to causal.

Finished The Evil Within tonight; managed to get through it on Survival difficultly.

Was a really fun survival horror game, but I'm actually glad I waited to play it until now and didn't play it when it first came out like I wanted to. Having the last few years of going through Resident Evil, Dead Space, etc definitely set me up to understand how best to play this. Looking forward to #2 as I see people often calling that one the best.

Next I'll be going through a game I've had on my list for a while and actually bought it when it first came out but never played it: Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom.

I went back to Diablo 4 for some reason and its got its hooks back in me. With all the stuff that I've played this year, this is the game I weirdly have the most time in. May end up being my personal GOTY just due to the amount of time put into it.

Also still playing Lamplighter's League on gamepass. Feel really bad that Paradox and critics wrote this game off. Its an Indiana Jones like X-com game. Never seen that combo before. And its fun to boot. Hope once HareBrained Schemes shakes loose from Paradox in January they land on their feet or get acquired by someone who can appreciate their talent. Microsoft seems like the obvious fit as their biggest hits were working on MS owned IPs ( Shadowrun and BattleTech)

The Last Tree 1/5

Don't need another indie game about death thanks. Just wanted to play as a damn fox.

Finished Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom tonight. Very cool game. The mix of jrpg and fighting game mechanics feels really good despite me really not liking fighting games. The story did feel a little rushed at the end and left on a bit of a cliffhanger which is unfortunate because the dev doesn't exist anymore, but I'm glad I got a chance to finally play it. Would recommend to anyone who wants to try something different.

Next up I'm finally going to play Callisto Protocol. Just got it 65% off during the xbox black friday sale which is perfect because I was planning on playing it next regardless.

Nah nights is a solid 3/5.

Shame you have to play on easy if you want the combat to feel fun.

Just finished The Callisto Protocol. I think all the comparisons to Dead Space really do this game a disservice. It's a very different game with very different gameplay. They both just happen to have similar settings and stories. I really enjoyed it.

Next up is a game courtesy of Game Pass and EA Play, Lost in Random.

Took me a little while because I was traveling for work last week, but I beat Lost in Random tonight. Like all EA originals I've played, it was really good. Good story, great voice acting, and pretty fun card based combat. Would definitely recommend if you have Game Pass.

Next up I'll be playing Darksiders 3. Think I'm going with "classic" mode since I'm not a big souls-like gamer.

I finished God of War Ragnarok. I enjoyed it, but felt like there was a sudden difficulty spike in the last few chapters. I cruised through on medium pretty much until I hit a wall, then started dying a lot on easy. Not sure if I just needed to run a lot more side stuff to get a better character going. I really just wanted to power through it.

Enjoyable game overall. I never quite get the hype around this as an all time great game (I wouldn't even put it over other PS exclusives like Horizon, Spidey and Ghosts of Tsushima. Very good though, great voice acting for sure.

Up next: AC Mirage and Cyberpunk 2077 + DLC.
