I don't really pay much attention to Cable TV shows, but someone recommended this to me and I think it's really cool. It's basically about a loner who does tech security during the day but on his own time is a hacker vigilante. I know the lone computer geek is kind of a TV Trope, but I think this is a good spin on it and the character Elliot is well rounded despite being an emotional mess.
At this point, I'll say that despite the title, this show has nothing to do with Robots lol. Mr. Robot is the alias or username for a character played by Christian Slater who slowly approaches Elliott to recruit him to a cause that is a mix of Occupy Wall St. and Anonymous.
The show is grounded in lots of computer security lingo and I give them credit for now trying to dumb down this stuff. They freely toss around tech terms like DNS, DDOS, Tor, Gnome, KDE, or Linux which many average viewers probably have no clue what that means.
As for Mr. Robot, he comes across as the computer geek equivalent to Tyler Durden. He wants to crash or reset the world economy starting with the company Elliot is a contractor for.
I think the first episode is still on USA's website is anyone wants to check this out.
