Zenimax Media/Bethesda

This is ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL about GamePass. This is an endgame for all other competitors for digital delivery/streaming of games. 'You'll be able to play these games, streaming, by GamePass, on your PS5.'

Wonder if Stadia is crying yet. Lol.

....and this is the endgame:
Microsoft doesn't even need exclusivity, all these games will be day 1 on Game Pass vs. $70/80 euro on PS5

Imagine telling your buddy who has a PS5 and you both get the next Elder Scrolls IF Microsoft even allows it to be released on the PS5.

I don’t know if I agree with that. Fallout and Elder Scrolls are system sellers on their own. If they want to increase install base they wouldn’t need to put it on other consoles.

Also....this means Obsidian can create the next Fallout. Damn...this is huge.

It doesn't make sense to spend that kind of money to take games you were already getting away from other consoles, it's a good investment overall but just to take games away from PlayStation owners would be a dick move, some people get upset if Sony buys 1 year exclusivity to a single franchise which was also very unnecessary. MS paid far less for Minecraft and that game stayed multiplatform, I'm not sure which way this will go but spending over $7 billion on a publisher and then taking over half of the money they could bring in off the table would be a terrible business move. Let's also be real, Elder Scrolls is their biggest franchise by far and it's years away, Starfield is coming first and that's probably 2022 at the earliest.

Glad the Tik Tok thing fell through. Had to do something with all that money.

I've been trying to tell you mofos for the past couple years. Xbox Publishing was going to be the biggest publisher in the industry. You just had to listen to read the summaries from their investor calls. This fiscal year, they were going to round it out. They aren't nickel and diming a service they truly believe can become Netflix...which Nadella does. There it is! There is f***ing is!!!

Every studio that MS has bought for over $2 billion so far has continued publishing on nintendo and ps4.

We want competition but not the competition to see who is going to buy everyone first. This will only lead to Sony making more exclusive deals or acquisitions

Well that is a year old. Greenberg might not have been thinking they would own Bethesda at that point.

But yeah maybe after the games they are working on now are out

Sony is already trying to grab as many deals as they can. They were trying to squash their competition. Buying studios and IP is Microsoft's only way of competing at this point. Sony has too much mindshare and has leverage over every 3rd party developer due to a significantly larger worldwide base. Microsoft need big IP for Game Pass and they need to push to hit critical mass with Game Pass sooner rather than later. They obviously can't rely on just Halo. Something huge was inevitable.

It's why I don't cry about Sony's money-hats either. In the end, gaming is a business. It's not about playing fair. Sony will grab their own. The number of devs and studios in the industry is growing. The Indie market is growing and there will be AAA games coming from Indies this gen. Most people on gaming forums struggle to see where this industry is heading. If you don't believe in one platform having complete domination of the mature AAA industry, this move is good for the industry long term. We will see real competition this gen.

Except there's over 100 games to play on there, so yea it would be more expensive if that was the ONLY game you played for 5+ months.
Doesn't matter. To play it for more than 5 months you have to spend more. That doesn't change just because there are other games.

On the flip side, if you only play for 2 months it costs you less than half price. Or we can use your logic and say the price is neverending because it stays on the service.

Weren't you saying Microsoft wasn't moving the needle with their "AA" studios? This is less about plastic and more about Game Pass Ultimate. You need big IPs to drive those types of services to the mainstream. I've been telling you since we argued in the past about the service being more than AA games. They need big IPs on the service day 1 to move beyond the hardcore. Before today, the only IPs that resonated with the mainstream were Halo and Forza.

You say all that but we both know you would feel different if Sony made this move.

This is only good if you are a cheerleader for Xbox. Let's be honest and put our cards on the table here.

Their own studio head said it's about AA lol and no they weren't moving the needle with the studios they bought, you still aren't going to see games from majority of them for several years yet. You also aren't likely to see many from this purchase for a while yet either, yes it brings big games to GP on day one but it's also a ton of money to spend and I really don't think they'll be making these games exclusive to the xbox/PC, Spencer hasn't said that and Pete Hines statement makes it sound as if nothing is changing.

It seems all tgese studios will start producing at roughly the same time, 2022.

As a Xbox fan, mind f***ing blowing. Mic drop moment to Microsoft’s commitment to gaming.

As a gamer, consolidation of studios like this is not good IMO.

From a logic stand point, this is Microsoft’s play to get game pass on everything, including PlayStation. There is no better value even if they increase the price tomorrow to $15 a month. All Microsoft has to tell Sony fanboys is they offered to put game pass on PlayStation but Sony said no.

I'm an Xbox fanboy, but I root for as close to 50/50 sales as possible. I like this move because that makes things closer.

I don't want Sony outselling MS 2:1 again, because that's not good for anyone. This move helps fix that, which is why it is a good thing.

The big difference is that I don't want Sony to "lose".
