I am amazed by just how much better Gears looks now with the update. It's pretty damn impressive that is for sure.

You do know the Nathan was a screen cap done in Maya ( a 3D animation program) right? Naughty dog already mentioned also, so its not a secret.

Maya has a in viewport hardware render, which was what shown here, & its pretty crappy, good for just showing basic materials, normal map & reflection, similar to Nathan picture shown here.

Notice the same blue hue in the video? As a Maya vet, so I can verify this also, if teh video isn't already enough evidence.

Nathan Drake is dreamy.

The new face of Quantum Break's lead character is a bit like Danny Dyer mixed with Ollie Murs.

Graphics today are pretty damn amazing, guys.
An interesting choice of art for Drake. A next gen face image with flat lighting, combined with PS2 quality clothing. If the resolution was lowered to PS1 standards (I think it was 320x256 or something) his vest and blue shirt could pass for PS1.
 
Man, so I was watching this vid, and started wondering why no Fighting games look this good. Seriously, It's TWO Characters on screen!

Its not an apple to applec comparasion.

The Nathan picture was a screencap of the viewport of Maya, which explain the flat lightings, & simple textures.

Viewport views are NOT meant to look good, it is design for doing modeling & animation task.
You cannot compare viewport screencap with a footage from a game engine that has proper lighting, textures, post effects etc.

I do not mind people made comparsion, but comparison must be proper.

In game shot vs in game shots (Not cinematic shots or a render, or a viewport shot)

Probably the reason why Mortal combat & Injustice female characters looks so manly, & character just doesn't feel realistic enough (not the skin, but the details). Quality of character artists.

Character is actually one of the hardest things to models ( a few members here can can probably testify that)

Look at this MK model. She is nice, but you wouldn't imagine she is real. (not just becuase of the lighting & texture, but the facial features)

Then look at Lara. The devil is in the details. I know one is cross gen, another is next gen, but just focus on the face, you can the intrigate details & form of Lara face, the eye socket is not just an almond but curved at just the right place, the buffiness of the lips. The one in MK is consideably simpler.

The artist for MK is decent, but the artist for Lara is a Master artist. Makes all the difference.

100% agree. It's not really an issue of poly-count, but proportion and micro-detail. I've modeled a number of human characters (see my avatar) before, and know how hard it is. Of course the advent of z-brush/mudbox has really elevated the craft. Hair Shaders/sims are a bitch-and-a-half to work with and to get right.

The artists working on Lara (and Drake) are much higher level than those working for NR. Not that MKX doesn't look great. You could make an argument that it's a stylistic thing, but the proportions tell another tale. I really appreciate the subtle details seen in Lara/Drake vs the in-your-face style of MK.
 
PC seems to get left out of these comparisons often. Don't be shy about it. We know why. ;)
 
That awkward moment when PC indie games have real time global illumination and AAA console games do not.

Not sure which member you're talking about, but doesn't matter. No need for personal insults. You sure seem to have taken it to the next level in terms of PS fandom and in just about every thread agitating people and continuing your PS crusade.

Relax. It's video games.

Final Fantasy X-2 on ps4 is loaded with graphical qualities. Spot then all and get a free cookie!

 
I loved those games back in the day! I kinda wish they re-did a few of the main character models...

But I guess they would look out of place in a lower-res world.
