Misleading.

Look I'm not here defending the 5090 because it does draw a lot of power, but this guy was using an air cooler. Coupled with the GPU it is almost a given that all that heat is going to need to be moved around fast in the case or drive temps up.

Using an AIO on the CPU would eliminate the CPU getting too toasty.

That is true. I still use an air cooler on my cpu 😬

I don't F with AIO coolers!
If a gpu needs someone to have that in the build then it's poorly designed.

yeah in my head I’m like “why’s there so many extra points of failure that’ll be on me, would rather it be integrated and designed with it from the get go. But I won’t 😆

I use an air cooler too, noctua NH D15 chromax. AIOs are absolute junk I've had 3 of them die on me over the years before I started doing custom loop stuff, and then when I got tired of maintenancing custom loop stuff I went back to the basics with air cooled everything about 4 years ago and never looked back, The noctua performs about on par with 240 AIOs without the chance of the pump dieing.

Yeah since I started building my own PCs about 20 years ago I always used air cooling. Never had an issue so I just stuck with what I knew and worked. I didn't even need to use the top end models sometimes. Just the trusty old CoolerMaster Hyped 212 Evo worked fine.

We shouldn't have to be forced to use a certain cooling method just for a high end GPU card. The cooling of the GPU card itself should suffice and not affect the other parts of the PC. Unfortunate that this doesn't seem to be the case for the 5090. Maybe wait to see how real end air cooling users deal with this.

Sucks that you have had issues with AIOs in the past. I've had nothing but good experiences. I will agree that a good air cooler can rival and even exceed the cooling of a 240 or even a 360 AIO, plus as you said less points of failure with an air cooler.

I'm sure once I run into an issue with an AIO I've been using my tune will change.

For me they only lasted a year or 2 before the pump died, or started making grinding noises, I've thankfully never had one leak tho.

Glad I don't have to upgrade anytime soon. DLSS4 and the upgraded RR and FG looks phenomenal.
