Official Forza 6 Thread: The Definitive Racing Sim

Rain = simulation though. It happens in racing all the time, it happens when driving. Cars & rain go hand in hand. I understand why they perhaps didn't do it last-gen, but this gen, it has to happen, IMO. There really isn't a valid reason not to do it.

They would have to really dumb down the tire physics to do it, making the game much less of a sim (see FH2).

The tire physics made a huge jump this gen. This is the first version where I don't need telemetry to tell me what the car is doing, I just feel it. You can actually drift now too without having to create some weird tuning setup. You're really asking a lot of a $60 console game to take that and add in all sorts of different wet conditions realistically.

There are so many times I go into a corner and the back end gets a little loose. I scrub up the track a bit and lose speed, but never really lose total control. I've never felt that in a racing game before. In past games, getting loose usually meant you were done. In this game, it means that you are losing speed and sliding around, but as long as you drive properly you can still keep the car under control.

What other games do is simply say in the rain you get some % less grip overall and be done with it.

Truth, but they said they don't want to do it unless they can do it right. I can respect that. Hopefully now that this gen's ice has been broken with FM5 and FH2, they will be able to spend some time on it.

Oh, for sure, it has be done well. I can certainly respect that.

No!

The tires in FH2 are dumbed down because it is an arcade game, it has nothing to do with rain being included. If you want proof go look at the myriad of PC sim racers. Hell, look at Race Pro on Xbox 360. That game was phenomenal, better than any Forza last-gen physics wise and it had rain. I'm not even sure Forza 5 bests it.

I never played it, but I really doubt that on 360 it had realistic wet driving physics. My guess is things just got "a little more slippery".

You'd have slicks vs treaded tires with puddles, damp conditions, etc. You are asking a whole lot of a console game.

You ever see what happens to slicks when it suddenly starts to rain? Bad things. I saw half the field spin out when a sudden downpour hit at my local track. Drivers couldn't just slam on the brakes obviously, but they were still too fast and all lost the back end when they hit water on the track.

Go play F1 2013/2014 on xbox  Oh, and it was far more than just "more slippery" on Race Pro.

Anybody else on here played it?

I am sorry Kerosene, but your excuses are a bit weak. Not only has it already been done, it is has been done on old hardware.

Like I said, there really isn't a valid excuse for its absence.

Yeah honestly I've never played any of those games. I remember hearing some buzz about Race Pro, but wasn't it only 30fps or something?

Honestly can not recall what FPS it was. It certainly had some big drawbacks. The menu system was awful. It had terrible screen-tearing. The Multiplayer did not work day one and took ages to sort out. The graphics outside car models and rain effects were pretty poor.

However, it was above all else in the most important place, the physics.

As I said, if this game had more time and wasn't just a "roster" upgrade every two years we may get some better innovation. I love the series but damn.

RacePro walks all over Forza as far as simulation goes. I have and love it.

So, I have been graced with a couple new race games this gen after Forza 5 came out. Namely Forza Horizon 2 and DriveClub. I have spent almost ZERO time in Forza 5 in the past 9 months because of the two new games. I was thinking Horizon 2 was the bees knees. And DriveClub pretty good too. However, I decided to play Forza 5 again. I can NOT believe how awesome that game is. Turn 10 has such an intense focus on detail, untouched. The game feels so smooth, so solid, is nearly bug free, and the driving feels so rewarding and good. I cannot say enough just how awesome Forza 5 is. I am going to spend more time playing this now until Forza 6, and post some screenshots too. Game is just beyond epic and highly underrated (due to lack of content). Which ironically, the game has had a lot of free cars come out (and pay), and free new tracks.

New trademark suggests Microsoft has something new in the works for its racing franchise.

Microsoft has filed a new trademark application for something called "Forzatech," though the company's intentions for it are not immediately clear.

The Xbox company filed for the trademark with the United States Patent & Trademark Office on April 2. It is listed as "game software," and unfortunately, no further description is provided.

Given that Forza is featured in the name, it's quite likely that "Forzatech" is related to Microsoft's major racing franchise. The name, however, doesn't sound like something would call a game itself, but possibly a related service or technology.

Microsoft already holds trademarks for other non-game Forza products, one of which is Forza Hub, the name of the free Xbox app that collects news and information about the racing series. The company has also trademarked "Drivatar," which is an artificial intelligence technology featured in recent Forza titles.

The next Forza game is the upcoming Forza Motorsport 6 for Xbox One, though it's unclear if Forzatech is in any way tied to that title.

Like it says not sure if this is Forza 6 related, but any Forza news is good news, right.

I was just reading up on this. What kinds of things can be TM'd anyways? Someone said you can't trademark a game engine..is that true? If it's not a game engine maybe it's some kind of Hololens functionality..?

I may be in the minority here, but I would love to be able to build my own track...and yes..DESIGN and build my own car in Forza (prefer to be able to design on PC then push to my console).

I am so ready for this! I was just going to hop in Forza 5 for a game or two, but of course, the awesomeness just sucked me up for the rest of the night. Had to force myself to quit at 1 am, lol. Stupid work :(

Just played through a series with the V8 Atom. So good :)

That's a great idea. How did you come up with it?

I'm just messing with you Kvally.

I posted something similar a few posts up from yours.
Ohh...yes...that is what inspired me to say that. Your comment. I thought that would be fun to be able to do, but man would one need to be pretty artistic on the car shape/design. I could do the mechanics, but the design...not sure how that would look.

My car would be fast as hell, but would look like:

Oh I'm a dumbass. Don't mind me KV.

But yeah Forzatech just seems like a Forge type deal for the Forza franchise.

So I'm curious why they'd feel the need to TM their "proprietary graphics and simulation engine for Forza".
Is this a common thing to do with game engines?

Not exactly aerodynamic, the drag would slow you down, a lot. Oh, and that spoiler is generating way too much down-force. It may look cool and all, but it will not be competitive.

@BeetleComet: @PNF4LYFE @Turn10Studios Agreed. Forzatech is going to blow everyone away. Microsoft keeps informing me they've some awesome Forza at E3.
