Meh...Windows Cloud OS a strip-down light-weight OS which only runs Windows Store apps to compete with ChromeOS. Market demographic mainly education, health sectors etc. Nothing too different from Windows RT apart from the fact it is also capable of running on ARM and x86 architecture. Come back when iOS and ChromeOS no longer have closed Eco-systems. Tim Sweeney is a whinging biatch with an axe to grind. Troll harder next time.

Why are we posting Tim Sweeney garbage? That guy clearly hates Microsoft to the point he comes up with conspiracy theories with no foundation. What a joke!

Keep in mind that this is about a free cloud version of Windows for devices. Tim thinks they should take themselves completely out of the revenue stream (which is what would happen) and open it up for Steam and every other Joe whose trying to peddle wares through their closed/free operating system. That would be the worst business plan ever.

What the Fvck does Microsoft owe Valve/Steam, anyway? "Hey, you've built your revenue on our backs, so here, take it all! We're building another revenue stream for you, with zero incentive for ourselves because well, we really like you." That's just entirely stupid, and it's clear that Tim Sweeney thinks Windows should be a free service for everyone and not a business.

Is it possible that a Steam store could open up on Windows 10 Cloud or whatever it's called? Yes, but a monetary system would have to be worked out...same as through Xbox.

That open system stuff is for the PAID version of Windows. The kind that regularly runs on desktops and laptops. The kind you BUY with the device.

The spaces between realities!
How though if you look into what hes saying...its pretty frightening.
Ummm.....because it is unsubstantiated, and given his prior track record for tin-foil accusations against Microsoft it is hard to take anything he says seriously.
Also, until it is proven conclusively that this is what is going to happen, this just screams hyperbolic nonsense.

Everyone who doesn't wanna get it in the rear from them.
The headbanging is caused by rear action.
Yes. Head in rear action. He's an idiot.

Just like a lot of conspiracy theories, is about having a preconceived idea, then linking loose facts to make them fit within that preconceived notion.

His preconceived notion is MS/Windows trying to get rid of Steam, cuz "Microsoft is uh, bad, mmkay". He was privy to a pre-announcement version of some free Windows cloud version (for devices)- and he breaks NDA over his assumption that because Steam won't work on it, that Microsoft is pushing Stream out, even though that Windows platform never existed (and technically still doesn't). Again, what the fvck does Microsoft owe Steam? Not a damn thing! This isn't a version of Windows for PC. You have to pay for that! Why should Microsoft let Steam open up a revenue stream on a closed system? Does Apple let Steam work on iOS? Does Android? This would make no sense.

If you want to believe this guy has a good point then you must also have a preconceived hate for Microsoft. Yeah, the Microsoft that let Steam operate and become wealthy for years on the real Windows. What a crock of BS. Windows 10 isn't going anywhere. This is something else. The point he is trying to make is completely made up to fit his fear-mongering.

A free OS to make low cost devices cheaper is the end of the world?

It could potentially be used for builders to create PC or OEM builds with a nice $99 knocked right off the top since without the license; leaving the consumer to either use the barebones CloudOS or upgrade whenever they want straight from MS or second hand license, which you can find from like $10-15 and up if you know where to look.

ChromeOS exists without the world ending... it's literally the same exact thing, but made by MS.

Anyone with a Steam library, clearly wouldn't be using it. I've heard hyperbole before, but jesus, Tim Sweeney kicks it up a notch, then supplies either no evidence, says a bunch of wrong stuff or finds little barely relatable to his initial claim points to nitpick about and points to them as signs of the apocalypse.

And we have no proof that I'm not the reincarnation of Jesus. It's not really an argument.

Alas, gather-eth around-eth me, my children, for doth-eth so be-ith our sins-eth shall-eth be forgiven-eth.

Tim actually being in the industry and What's he's saying>what some Xbox defenders are saying with no argument and no job in the industry.
He apparently knows ms plans yet doesn't work for them. He complains about ms while praising Valve for doing similar

Logically, wouldn't there be more outrage from developers (especially from the indie/steam community) if there were any traction to his claims?

It's one dude on a soap box at the moment. One dude with a history whose fame stems from notoriety.

I'm not sure why you're saying "Xbox defenders" in regards to this though. I think you're projecting/grasping a tad here, mate. If this were any other company, you'd probably roll your eyes at it. Heck, look at how you called Rollins out for posting a Forbes article about Sony. And that one had numerical foundations, and was published by one of the most respected financial magazines in the world.

Rollings has posted numerous negative articles in the PS and Switch threads but never in the XB threads. Why are posters like yourself so selective in what they see?

The plastic makers defense in this thread is more frightening
This article is essentially the equivalent of "Vita won't play your PS4 games, Sony is literally stealing your money and making you rebuy your games" or "Nintendo Switch won't play Wii U games: those greedy sumb****es are after your wallet again!"

The amount of plastic blindness that it takes to be this up in arms about a Chrome OS competitor (which, by all accounts, is what Windows Cloud is) not running steam when Chrome OS DOES.NOT.RUN.STEAM. is baffling, at least, it would be if it came from someone who was capable of distinguishing between hate for MS and reality.

It's anti (Steam) consumer to block Steam from windows.
It's also anti consumer to block the PLAYSTORE from Iphones.

It's legal though. By all means MS, you built this garden, tresspassers should be "dealt with"

It reminds me when Gabe was up in arms about a Microsoft Store being built into windows as it was anti-consumer....i think he would not think so if it was the Steam store pre-installed on 400Million PC's.
