Okay, so the secondary rig I mentioned is not going to happen in the same way. I just bough a AMD Sapphire OC 7950 for 150 bucks and I am waiting to look at/purchase a ASUS Sabertooth 990FX mobo with a AMD Phenom 2 x6 1100T, 8GB of Corsair Vengeance DDR31600 for 200 bucks, I am just a little leary as it's on craigslist, but I have also have a Cooler Master HAF 932 case and a Corsair GS800 power supply.

What are you going to use this build for may I ask?

It's mainly for s***s and giggles but I wanted a cheap AMD machine for my girlfriend to use.

All the crypto miners are selling their cards for almost dirt cheap on Ebay as it looks as if the fad has ended, you can find R9 290s for about 280-320 bucks now.

I am wondering if anybody has experience with using a extra lower end geforce card just for the PhysX of games.
For example.... I would use my Titan SC and a lower end card like the 650,with the 650 handling the PhysX.

The thing with a dedicated PhysX card is that if you use a card that is alot slower than your primary rendering card you will bottleneck the system and you would be better off just running physX and rendering the game on the same card, with a Titan and 650 you might as well just use the Titan for both as it will most likely be faster than the Titan with dedicated 650 PhysX.

lol as I was scrolling I wasn't paying attention to names, but when I got to the server rack I said that's gotta be Revit.

Got my Motherboard, Storage, Memory, and Power Supply ready to go.

Just a couple more (huge) purchases to go and I will have my PC ready to go.

Welp here is the start to my secondary rig mainly for my GF. I thought long and hard about it and going with a AMD CPU was not an option as most of the games my girlfriend will play are not heavily threaded so the core i5 IPC is a much better option

Gigabyte Z87X UD5H, got an insane price on it and I loved the UD4H in my main machine. Also a Cooler Master Hyper 212 evo. Will be getting a Core i5 4670K later this month. I have a Sapphire 7950 w/ boost incoming later this week and I already have a Cooler Master HAF 932 and a Corsair GS800 power supply. I've only spent 300 bucks so far. will be around 550 total when I get the memory and CPU.

Nice! Love Gigabyte boards....haven't let me down yet!

Yup, I love my UD4H in my main machine, hasn't did me wrong. I just replaced the stock fan on the Hyper 212 evo with a pair of PWM Corsair sp120 PE's in push pull that I had laying around.

What racing games do you play with that steering wheel rig you got there?

What racing games do you play with that steering wheel rig you got there?

I just got it hooked up on Tuesday but I've been playing Dirt 3 and subscribed to iRacing. Waiting for project CARS to come out and then I get my rift in July.

All you need now lucid is a 3 way surround monitors and you'd have a insane racing game rig.

That's what the rift is for. People are already playing iracing and dirt 3 with the rift and project cars will have native support for it. Enthusiasts that try the rift with a racing game say they cannot go back to a triple monitor and the TrackIR setup after it.

My OC'd 7950 w/ Boost came today, maybe next weekend I will go pick up a 4670K and 8GB of RAM to complete the build. I'm in zero hurry.

I really haven't been keeping up with the rift talk, but what kind of specs do you need to run that thing optimally?

For development kit 2 you'll need to render 1080p in stereoscopic 3D at a constant 75 fps. Consumer version will most likely be at 1440p at 90 fps. The way the resolution is done to render stereoscopic is that the horizontal pixels are cut in half due to the rift rendering 2 split images on a single smartphone-like screen(which is why VR is now viable). So running a game in 1080p for DK2 is actually like rendering two 960 x 1080 screens at the same time at 75 FPS. Both screens slightly different POV to realistically trick your brain into seeing depth just like our eyes see in the real world. Which is also why the rift is so convincing due to it replicating real life vision and brain interpretation.

So with all of that in mind, memory on videocards will be very important due to all the resolution it's gonna be pumping out. As far as what kind of exact hardware you'd want for using a rift it really depends on the game and at what settings you choose. I haven't personally hooked it up to my machine so I can't comment on it first hand. I've seen Unreal Engine 4 demos run at 30 frames per second on a 760 4670k @ stock clocks...with no A.I., dialogue, character animations etc...on a DK1 (640x800 per side of screen) But I've seen plenty of good looking unity/UDK running well over 100 fps too running the same hardware. Carmack is working on something called 'Timewarp' that will reduce latency and increase fps. The beta of it was just released in the latest SDK and people are having very positive results with it so far. Also to keep in mind, you CANNOT use SLI/Xfire with the rift due to the inherent latency involved with duel GPU rendering.

So bottom line, from what I've seen I'll try to make an educated guess. You'll want at least a GTX 770 for a smooth experience in more graphically advanced games IMO. If you can run games on a regular 1080p monitor at >100 FPS you can run the DK2 just fine with a solid 75 FPS. For the CV1, increase that to 120 FPS @ 1440p. BUT you can always play at a lower resolution and upscale to fit the native resolution. You'll suffer some image quality for sure but it'll still look and feel great. Here is a link that shows the resolution differences with the rift. Make sure to enable/disable low persistence to see the difference the DK2 provides over DK1 in addition to the resolution differences.

Ugh. Building this secondary PC has been a nightmare.

At first today I was going to install the mobo and such in the case, had the cooler backplate mounted and when I looked in the box i realized there is no I/O shield, so a bit frustrated I took the 45m drive back to microcenter and they took a I/O shield from a open box mobo, I ended up picking up the 4670K while I was there as well. So I take the hour and 1/2 drive home. I assembled everything on my test bench and found out the main PCI-E x16 slot is defective on the mobo, it will not recognize my 7950 at all, so I inserted it into the second PCE-E X16 slot and it was reconized and installed right away.......

So now I have to take another 45-1 hour drive across the bridge to PA and it will be third time and 15 dollars combined to get over the bridge just to return this mobo. I should be compensated for my bridge tolls because this is ridiculous.

Save your money. Ship what you have to me and I'll pay the costs. Leave it to me, I'll assemble that bad boy. :D

If it had anything to do with the ability to assemble a PC I might consider it, but since it's not and it's defective hardware I will keep it :D

Give me that damn PC now!!! :txbmad::wink::laugh:

I need to upgrade mine soon.
