‘Watch Dogs’ on PS4 could be released one week earlier than other versions?

Sony Computer Entertainment may have a brief timed-exclusivity deal with Ubisoft in regards to the upcoming multiplatform video game, “Watch Dogs.” According to updates from several retailers such as Amazon and Walmart on Sept. 9, the new intellectual property will be released first on the PS4.

The online retailers are listing a Nov. 12 release date for the PS4 version of “Watch Dogs,” which is exactly one week earlier than the releases of the Nintendo Wii U, PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Xbox One iterations. The date is also three days before the launch of Sony’s next-generation console. So it appears that gamers may be able to purchase the PS4 version several days in advance of getting the system.

Sony Computer Entertainment already has an existing exclusive content deal with Ubisoft in regards to “Watch Dogs.” Both the PS3 and PS4 versions of the open-world action-adventure video game would include 60 minutes of exclusive gameplay. The same type of exclusive deal has been made with the upcoming “Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.”

Ubisoft Montreal, along with some help from Ubisoft Reflections, is developing “Watch Dogs” for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms. The Nintendo Wii U version is being handled by the Ubisoft Romania studio. You can check out a set of screenshots from the new intellectual property in the slideshow near the top of this article.

Still on the fence about getting the PS4 at launch especially since I know my XBOX ONE will take up the majority of my holiday fun.

It's already going to be a next gen exclusive for a week in the US because the PS4 is launching a week earlier, I don't see much point in Sony trying to "secure it" to release before their console is even out. I think someone is reading more into a release date there than they need to. There have been plenty of times where games released before the next gen console but I don't see any reason that they'd need to work out a deal when their machine is already going to be out first anyway.

I have mine paid off and haven't decided on which games I might get.

That's me as well.

I may go with tradition and get Madden like the last few consoles. Whatchdogs, AC4, KZ and BF4 are battling it out in my mind as a secondary game purchase.

Rumor: Sony scrambling to ensure video capture devices work on the PlayStation 4
September 13, 2013

Earlier this week a rumor quickly gained momentum regarding Sony's PlayStation 4 and High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP). With said rumor came great backlash from fans having worry about the inability to capture gameplay via external capture cards, something Sony's largest competitor, Microsoft, has enabled with the Xbox One.

Well, regardless of what some manufactures of these external capture devices have said (see here), there may be some weight to these rumors, as a source has informed us that as of right now, there is no way to capture video from the PlayStation 4 without some form of license or HDCP stripper.

Sony don't have provisions for capture devices with PS4 right now. They are supposedly scrambling to ensure this works via an update. Doesn't know when that will be, though.
When asked if you would be able to capture video at launch on the Playstation 4, the answer was clear.

Unless they push through an update that turns off HDCP while gaming, you won't be able to.
Floored by this misstep in what seemed to be a very thought out development process, the source continued:

I think they didn't expect Microsoft to enable the feature on the X1. They really wanted to push the share feature. They scored a point with having a longer recording buffer than X1, but didn't anticipate the HDCP backlash would grow.
This would actually make sense, as even Shuhei Yoshida couldn't outright deny the claims, nor confirm that external capture devices would work.

We'd like to keep gamers happy and are considering every possibility regarding PS4's gameplay capture. We'll update you as soon as ready. This is very unlike Sony as of late, who has made a very strong effort to erase any negative connotations regarding the PlayStation 4 as early as possible. But as he even said, it looks like we will get an official update from Sony regarding this. Regardless though, this all must stand as rumor until that official response from Sony, so please take everything with a grain of much needed salt.

Is this a big feature for Sony to have a better version than ms? I can't see using it once.

So, how much is everyone spending day one on their PS4? I'm just getting the Watch Dogs bundle from Amazon. $505 after tax.
Same bundle!

I'm probably gonna wait a bit before I pick up any additional games. I have a few on my radar, but there's no sense in building a huge backlog straight out of the gate.

Got the system pre-ordered at BB..no games tho.

Hoping I can snag FIFA, KZ, and BF when I pick the system up.

Really? It doesn't look as absurdly nice as what we saw before, but it still looks fantastic. Lighting, textures, shadows... it all looks remarkable. Oddly enough the armour on the player character is by far the biggest let down. Seems entirely out of place, even in a current game. I'm not actually concerned, in-game never looks as good as a cinematic, even when the fidelity is still there. I'm not arguing it's the same, but still really good.

I keep coming back to the Killzone situation all those years ago. That still looked very nice, but it lacked in exactly the areas that were most impressive in the video... because it was actually CG. This is recognizable as the same tech, same textures, same lighting, just not quite as outrageously clean and high res as before.

Well apparently that original Deep Down was shown off on a 680GTX/i7 machine soooo yea...can we say downgrade?

I don't really understand the big deal about HDCP backlash-rumour.
If you don't have the ability to HDCP-strip on your c apture device - can't you just capture from analog instead of HDMI.
Isn't that how it's today on current gen systems?

How much would the said machine cost? Really thinking of picking up a pc for gaming if the price... Is right.
