PlayStation 4 replacement for defective units, Amazon reported shipping within days.

We don't need two competing threads on this, though. I'm going to combine them and hope they don't explode.

PV, I took the liberty of re-titling the thread. Sorry, it made me laugh, so I couldn't resist.
I got no problem with that. Hopefully the original story is false and replacements and repairs are much faster.

Oh hell no. I'd demand a new console from the store or a refund. If they didn't at that point I'd probley end up getting arrested for trashing a retail store.
I work retail, please come to my store so I can make money selling the video, ill split it with you 70/30!

Over at G**, a handful of people are reporting that amazon is shipping a replacement console within several days.

We inquired about repair and replacement times for those consumers that choose to approach Sony directly rather than attempt a fix through a retailer. The representative gave us some good news. “SCEA is exchanging units with new replacements for those who call our support line,” he says. “The exchanges are immediate with expedited shipping.”

Well that's good. They must've found some stashed under Yoshida's desk.

I don't suppose they'll be kind enough to release exact figures on how many replacements they issue.

The GEEK article's info was taken from a consumer's experience as posted online who claims to have been told that from Sony and Amazon, the GS article is also claiming to have spoken to Sony..written by someone that has worked at Gamespot for only 2 months according to his LinkedIn. There is no evidence to say that one is false and the other is true, you believe one to be true and the other to be false because you want that to be the case. There is no official information from Sony or Amazon on this matter as of yet, and it is frankly nothing more than hearsay...I would equate both of these articles to someone saying they were told something by Xbox support on twitter..representatives give differing information and are more often wrong than right.

The Geek article is a clearly biased purposeful hit piece whose only source is some random Twitter use.

The Gamespot article is a much more level headed examination of the issues.. and it's source is an editor who has a reputation to uphold.

There's a lot more to believing the GS article is more likely than "wanting to believe".. it is a better source, and it also has logic on it's side.

The "OMG FEBRUARY!" report didn't make a lick of sense.

"a lot of very unhappy PS4 owners" A few hundred/thousand out of a million = a lot. Hyperbole.

"no available replacements" Wrong, people have been getting replacements at Sony Stores, from Amazon, etc. Replacements are limited due to supply, but not "none".

"PSN is still totally broken, Battlefield 4 updated review for PS4 today." Oh really? I've been able to log in just fine for days. BF4 is having game specific problems that Dice will patch, and has nothing to do with defect rates.

"As the 1-star Amazon reviews pile up" Facepalm.

Sony is currently telling customers that new units won’t be available until February" Quote? Evidence? Source? Anything? Nope, of course not, just a guy on twitter. If a low level tech support said this, they're wrong as people have already sent their consoles back to Sony for replacement within a week. We have official sources contradicting that guy's tweet.

This is sensationalist and exaggerated click bait with no reliable proof of its main claim that Sony is telling people to wait until February. You could write the same crap about any anticipated piece of mass electronics, including iPhones or whatever. They all have failure rates and limited supply at launch, it's nothing new.

I really hope for the sake of posters promoting FUD, wrong info, and hit pieces based on sourceless twitter rants that there are absolutely 0 defective Xboxes.

And here comes the truth/back in the real world:
http://www.geekwire.com/2013/sony-ps4-broken-amazon-shipments-poor-packaging
https://www.gameinformer.com/b/news...efective-playstation-4-units-immediately.aspx

“We are aware that some people have reported issues with their PlayStation 4 systems. We are closely monitoring for additional reports, but we think these are isolated incidents and represent a very small percentage of total units shipped to consumers to date.”

Since the day of announce, the PS4 has been a big seller on Amazon with more units shipped on release day than any other video game console in our history. More than 99% of Amazon customers are having a great experience with their new console. We are working with Sony to assist the small percentage of customers who have reported issues and our customer service team stands ready to offer an exchange or where possible, help customers get their systems up and running.

If what's true about Amazon packaging I'm glad I canceled that order and went with Best Buy.
