  • Updated user interface – The first thing you’ll notice is the sleek new user interface of the redesigned PS App. The new home screen lets you quickly see what your friends are playing and access details about your recently played games, including your Trophy List.
  • Messages integration – For a unified experience, the PS Messages app feature will now be integrated in the updated PS App so you can seamlessly message your friends all in one place. As part of this integration, PS Messages will no longer be available as a standalone app. Your existing messages and threads in PS Messages will be carried over to the updated PS App.
  • Voice Chat and Party Groups – You can now create party groups from PS App, and voice chat with up to 15 other friends though your mobile phone. Also, a note to fans: the PlayStation team is looking into your feedback around the Parties changes introduced in the PS4 system software update 8.00. There are no updates to share today, but thanks for speaking up about your concerns – we’re listening and evaluating.
  • Natively integrated PlayStation Store and remote downloads – The new native PS Store experience enables fast and smooth shopping and browsing, with the ability to remotely download games and add-ons directly to your PS4 and PS5.
  • New features for PS5 – When PS5 arrives, you’ll be able to remotely launch games, manage storage on your console if you run out of space while downloading a game, and quickly sign in to PS5 straight from the PS App.

AMD Is Developing A DLSS-Like Super Sampling Technology For PS5

AMD has revealed to Tom Warren from The Verge that it is developing a DLSS-Like Super Sampling technology, which will be open and cross-platform, meaning it will come to PS5.

This DLSS-Like Super Sampling technology will aim to increase performance during ray-tracing scenes and graphically intensive moments. The company is working with multiple partners for the new piece of technology, which is currently in testing. This means that scenes which are incredibly graphically intensive can still run at high framerates, despite those graphical improvements.

PS5 would make use of this technology in a number of ways, for example, games could possibly run at 4K 60 FPS with ray-tracing on, or at least have 4K 30 FPS performance with ray-tracing on, for those titles which are particularly graphically intensive. Nothing is confirmed as to how games will perform with this feature and the product is still in testing, but its implementation in the future will be a major win for Sony, who will be able to maintain high performance later in the generation’s life cycle.

AMD’s DLSS-Like Super Sampling technology is currently in testing.

Sony’s First-Party Studios Will Grow Organically, But Future Acquisitions May Still Happen

"It's probably not widely appreciated or understood, to what extent that we have grown our own game development capability organically over the course of this generation," he says. "Obviously, it's been helped by the acquisition of Insomniac, and it's wonderful to have them as part of the family. I would just invite anybody to look at the launch window line-up of the PS4 generation, or PS3 generation, and compare it to what we are going to bring in the equivalent phase of PS5. There's just no comparison.

"That is the fruit of not massive spending sprees, but of very, very steadily, carefully planned organic growth. Probably the best example I give... I could obviously talk about Naughty Dog, but they've always been making great games. But let's talk about Ghost of Tsushima, which has been a critical delight and certainly a commercial delight to an extent that we didn't think it would be. That speaks volumes to the work that Sucker Punch has done to build on their previous canon of work.

Nasty nasty game duh duh

So are they doing away with long intros with the developer/publisher logos and disclaimers or was that just quick resume?

That was a cold boot for the game not quick resume, it was 7 seconds from the PS5 screen to get the game going and then 2 seconds from clicking to start the game from the game menu. Quick resume would have gone straight from the PS5 screen to the gameplay.

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan says it is 'crucial' to support the PS4 audience through 2022

im Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, talked about the upcoming launch of the PS5 and supporting the highly-successful PS4 in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz. Ryan mentions that "our eyes" have been lifted regarding the number of new PS4 players during the ongoing pandemic and that because this audience will make up the majority of PlayStation owners through at least 2022, it is "crucial" to keep them engaged.

While we don't have specific details at this time, it's likely Ryan is referring to launching more major PlayStation exclusives on both PS4 and PS5. This could include titles like the next God of War, though we'll have to wait for direct confirmation. PS4 sales have stayed strong, with over 113.8 million consoles shipped as of Sony's Q2 financial report.

I hope they don't include God of War, I was hoping for a true next gen experience, although it's definitely one of the best looking games out there on the pro.

Sony expects PS5 to exceed PS4's 7.6m launch sales this fiscal year

In a call with investors, Sony CFO Hiro Totoki said the company was "aiming to exceed" the PlayStation 4's 7.6 million units sales in the fiscal year of its launch.

The PS4 launched in most global territories in November 2013, but it wasn't released in Japan until February 22, 2014 -- less than six weeks before the close of the fiscal year accounting period.

PlayStation 5, however, will launch in Japan next month alongside the majority of global territories -- barring South America and China.
