Don't know how it's worse, couldn't buy one then and you can't buy one now ;) they come in and go out. They had more on day one this time than they did for PS4.
As a avid gamer who made sure I was up to date on pre-order/launch plans but still unable to secure a PS5, this is a first for me. I pre-ordered and received a PS4 at launch. I preordered and received a PS4 Pro at launch. And yet, I wasn't able to preorder a PS5. I know, I'm only one gamer but it seems like there are a lot of gamers like myself. Then again, I don't remember Sony ever messing up like they did for PS5 preorders, that made things even worse.

Same here. PS4 and the Pro were crazy easy to preorder. Couldn't have been more of a mess with PS5.

Additionally, I I feel like all of my friends that have tried to get XSX's after launch have been able to with some work. Good luck on PS5. Random drips without warning. Sony's Direct Drops may even be worse than a lot of the individual retailers. Suddenly it's just live, even if the consoles sell out, it still keeps you in the queue making you think you're going to have a chance.

Sony's abysmal supply chain decisions (manufacturing in Japan at extremely limited capacity facilities, etc.) has done itself no favors. Between the crap supply chain, crap preorder process, crap game price increases, crap ugly looking console, borderline complete lack of supply of the cheaper digital version, and crap additional storage solution process, I honestly don't know how even the biggest Sony fanboys can't admit that Sony's handled the launch poorly. They got so many pats on the back at launch last gen for "being all about the games", that it's crazy to me there hasn't been more of a backlash this gen when it's obvious their PS5 strategy so far is "all about profit".

Yeah, Sony got so much wrong with this launch. I'll also add the PS5's lack of support for VRR. I'm looking to purchase a new TV that supports VRR. I've always been very satisfied with Sony's TVs so I figured that's the brand I should continue to invest. I noticed a reasonable price for the latest Sony 900H model which states it supports VRR. And when I went looking for reviews almost all of them had the warning that while Sony states this model supports VRR it has not been the case and is slated to receive a firmware update to add it but no timeframe has been stated yet. That was around Thanksgiving. So basically their specs details for this model is misleading at best or an outright lie at worse.

Ugh, yeah. I bought the Samsung Q90R last year and at the time people said it was going to support full 2.1 and eARC with an update and... Well, that line stopped when the next years models came out. 🤮

I didn't even try to pre-order the PS5 as I planned on waiting, but I remember PS4 being super easy to do so at Best Buy. Looking back at my order history I got the PS4 Pro on Jan 10 and that was an in-store pickup/purchase so probably not much of an issue to get one of those two months after release. We'll see if I'll be able to roll into Best Buy early next month and grab a PS5. Doubt

Project Athia Is a 2 Year Console Exclusive For PS5, Also Available On PC

Sony has a deal with Square Enix that was further clarified in the new PS5 ad that revealed current and upcoming games. The ad focused on exclusives for the PlayStation 5 also confirming the timed exclusivity for Project Athia.

So Sony has Spider-Man exclusive in Square Enix Marvel Avengers, Final Fantasy 16 exclusive for a year and now Project Athia for 2 years. Like I said before, because PlayStation is about a third of Sony's profit, expect these guys to be very aggressive if that sector is ever threatened.

Because Sony said it is.
Sony sold everything they had ready both launches, they sold more now because they had more ready but they sold out both times either way so it's really not worse.

Well, then I hope Sony fan-bois don't cry when Bethesda Games don't make it over to Playstation or only after a long exclusivity timeframe. It can't be ok for one platform-holder to do it and not for the other.

THIS IS WAR.

Should just go back to the days of camping out for the new consoles, for anything really, would at least reduce the amount of scalpers.

I remain skeptical that MS will even do that.
If I was Phil Spencer I would. Sony wanna conduct checkbook warfare then its on. Let's see who can outspend who,

Wait, wait, Sony's a Japanese company that probably has Ninjas on the payroll. Forget what I said, I'd like my head to remain attached to the rest of me.

MS should and needs to but likely won't.
Another bad move from MS game division....
Unless they want to make money off of 3rd party sales.
Which=f*** Xbox

I'm still pissed about missing out on both consoles because of stuff like that, but then look at the current launch games and videos of upcoming games and become content that I'm not missing out on anything at all by not having either system right now.

I think there is more to that Bethesda deal than what is being lead to believe, and it may not be as exclusive as you think.

And lastly, Sony has a robust lineup right now and later on. If something doesn't change, they are going to pull way ahead, and it may be too late by then for their competition to catch them

Your really not.
I mean Sony has a couple of nice exclusives. But i personally don't care for either even though they're eye candy.

Series X just feels like an Xbox.
Just now all you're games run perfectly smooth.

I'm not sure where you're getting this conspiracy theory from. MSFT is acquiring Zenimax/Bethesda and their whole catalog of games. Once that's done MSFT can do whatever they want, including making all those games exclusive to MSFT platforms. As someone pointed out, MSFT could very well continue to allow those games to appear on other platforms. And get paid by the competition to do it.

Its like when Dr. Dre broke away from Ruthless Records and made piles of money only to have to continue to give a cut to Eazy-E's record label. Dre had the bragging rights of a successful career away from his old label but the old label was cashing checks sent from Dre. I'm pretty sure MSFT wouldn't care if Sony has those bragging rights so long as they continue to cut the checks to MSFT for access to Bethesda Games.

Sony's been killing it for some time with their stable of studios continually pumping out great games. MSFT has been in catch-up mode for generations. But here's the important thing, MSFT is still very much alive and well in the gaming space. Lets see if their recent studio acquisitions will payoff. I'm hopeful but we'll see soon enough.

Exactly. It's so weird people can't wrap their minds around this. Every sale of Deathloop made by PS fanboys next year will put more money in Microsoft's pockets than Sony's. If Microsoft decides to keep the games locked to Xbox, they make money. If they decide to keep selling them on other consoles, they make money.

Fanboy gamers seem to have absolutely no sense of how business works.

The games should only be on XB.
Putting these games on PS is not good for XB fans or for people who own neither console as it reduces the need to buy XB.

This is exactly what i was saying previously. Perhaps it wasn't as clear. But just because Microsoft is purchasing Bethesda that doesn't mean those games will become exclusive if they are trying to become the Netflix of gaming or want to reach 3 billion gamers. It is exactly why Minecraft isn't exclusive despite the 2 billiin dollar acquisition. So while some Xbox fans may think Microsoft cares about exclusivity, the reality is they seem to care more about business or, in particular, Game Pass business - similar to the way they treat their Windows operating system; it is everywhere regardless of where it plays.

The only problem with this is third party. Because we are dealing with hundreds of million dollar Ips, it is not something that is sustainable on GamePass. These types of games are better suited on console hardware to drive the most revenue. Sony is more focused on selling hardware even though they have a hand in cloud gaming as well. In fact, they were doing it before Microsoft. So they aren't oblivious to it. What i am trying to tell you is Sony, right out the gate, is moving ahead in hardware sales just based on their lineup, and that lineup is only getting stronger into 2021 with Microsoft yet to fire off a single shot. If this continues into 2022, it doesn't matter what Microsoft has in the pipeline, by Sony having more hardware sales, it becomes the platform of choice and therefore easier to bargain and secure/lock down more exclusives from these very third party, gaming studios. This is the fight Microsoft faces if they don't start competing soon.

We can go on and on about Microsoft's acquisitions, but those acquisitions came in the light of them trying to catch up to Sony's own in-house studios. So while you may think Microsoft's new acquisitions may bare fruit in 2022 or 2023, just remember that Sony's in-house studios are some of the best is the world, and they, too, are preparing for that same war in addition to the leg up they already have out the gate.

Shawn, please...for the love of god, stop lying.

Kotaku: “Is it possible to recoup a $7.5 billion investment if you don’t sell Elder Scrolls VI on the PlayStation?” I asked.

Phil Spencer:
“Yes. When I think about where people are going to be playing and the number of devices that we had, and we have xCloud and PC and Game Pass and our console base, I don’t have to go ship those games on any other platform other than the platforms that we support in order to kind of make the deal work for us.

You are clearly in WAY over your head here. The fact that you think you know more about how to run the $1.6 tillion dollar business that Microsoft is running.....is embarrassing.

STOP LYING.

Sony has Microsoft's own IPs (Death Loop and Ghostwire: Tokyo) locked down for an entire year off their own platform. Although it benefits Microsoft's bank account, how does this benefit the Xbox brand or their consumer base for that matter? All that is being done is Sony has been given more traction to run away with those consumers since Microsoft's platform doesn't have this content available to play. Pile this on top of content that has been secured elsewhere by Sony and suddenly the competing platform's catalog starts to look anemic to the consumer they are trying to entice into their ecosystem.

Content matters and PlayStation is proving once again that it is just better at it, and consumers are going to look at that, believe it or not. And if it wasn't bad enough, Sony has them beat on innovation, which will only sell that content that much faster.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the PS5's best feature is the DualSense controller. I could probably write 2,000 words gushing over Sony's new pad and still have superlatives to spare – it's just that damn good.

The controller's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers are a joy to behold, and more importantly, they have game-changing implications for many titles. I've been so impressed with the adaptive triggers in particular, that they've even made me consider purchasing games like FIFA 21 on PS5 again, simply so I can feel the difference.
